6 French league goals is what he scored all season which is far from brilliant and the season before he arrived at PSG he scored 30 La Liga goals and his peak league scoring season was 2012 with 50 goals in 37 games and the Spanish league is a higher standard than France.

Yes on paper PSG have names to win the champions league but is it possible to do so when their attacking talent are not going to put in the hard work defensively for their team?

There's a card going about with the three wise men pointing up at the ball.

Can't see this PSG team winning the Champions League. Too many sunshine footballers who play as individuals rather than as a team. Most of them don't hate losing enough to win games ugly. Some talented footballers there but for me they're the most overrated European club side of the past 10 years or more. Always seemed to be touted as one of the favourites for the Champions League but continue to go hiding in the big games. 'Big' names alone won't win them big trophies. They need a coach who's not afraid to clash with the egos and put out the best side that can play ball and fight for each other.

True and I think to be fair to them they're at least trying to go in that direction now with Galtier. He's a pragmatic coach but there's no doubt that the likes to Mbappe, Messi & Neymar still call the tune to some extent. As good and all as Messi & Neymar are and have been, the time is soon coming where PSG should offload both and build the team around Mbappe with exactly the type of fighting players you mention. The cynic in me wonders if PSG signed all 3 superstars with an eye on the World Cup. Is it coincidental that it was quite likely that one of Brazil, France or Argentina would win the World Cup in Qatar? As it turned out, they got two of their marquee men slugging it out in a match that I'll tell my grandchildren about. The emir got to hand over the trophy and a bisht to the winning captain in front of billions of people watching worldwide. Maybe I'm reading too much into it! :D Lockjaw (Donegal) - Posts: 9638 - 21/12/2022 09:50:08 2450846 Link 1 |
The world Cup as a spectacle was brilliant no doubt, the victors on the day Argentina deserve great credit, applause and all of that, Messi is no doubt a very popular player with a lot of neutrals and in particular the media and that's fair enough after all he did contribute to Argentinas WC victory, he scored 2 in the final, (as if you didn't already know.) 1 being a penalty, let it be said penalty's won it for Argentina, never the less they all count, the inability to put penalty's away cost France dearly. After 90 min's plus injury time the sides were level, after extra time plus injury time the sides were still level, no more time allowed so it went to penalty's, that is where the game was won and lost. Messi deserves great applause for his contribution to Argentinas performance on the day, however, because he is human it means he is not perfect, he is a mere mortal and is subject the constructive critism like any other player, he has been known to have missed sitters even in the WC competition. MOTM, in my opinion was Kylian Mbappe I have no doubt about that and he did it all in 40 min's ish, along with that he scored a memorable hat trick. There is a case for both keepers to get a mention as well for motm for without either of those keepers it mattered little what Messi or indeed Mbappe scored as both teams would be on their way home long before full time, penalties not included. If Messi is up there with the greats, so too is Neymar, Ronaldo, and Mbappe, etc, they are all human and subject to construction critism. Congrats again to Argentina, Messi and all the players attached. supersub15 (Carlow) - Posts: 3128 - 21/12/2022 10:41:14 2450857 Link 2 |

What do ye make of the behavior of Argentine keeper on team bus??he carried a doll with mbapee face on it..surely he could enjoy the victory without acting like a complete donkey as he did during shoot outs..I'm looking forward to seeing him back with Aston villaand making mistakes and see how he copes then.. Yeah he comes across as a bit of a jackass alright. Fair enough (or not) doing what he did in the shootout. It was a World Cup final after all and players have done worse to get an upper hand in big games. But his behaviour since with the Golden Gloves award and on the tour bus would make you wonder what kind of a half-wit is he. If it was a teenager you'd put it down to immaturity but the man is 30 years old. Lockjaw (Donegal) - Posts: 9638 - 21/12/2022 15:01:54 2450894 Link 0 |
If you are referring to my post, we'll as a previous poster said, I'm referring to the WC final, not extras or missalenious stuff.

My original reply to you was in regards to what was going on with Messi with PSG last season? You had the view it was just a slow start even though his season total amounted to a mere 6 goals in average league which was far from excellent.

Messi deserves a huge amount of credit for such a career, in terms of quality and longevity. In my opinion, he's the best footballer I've ever seen, and by a decent distance. He's very popular with neutrals because of what he's done on the football pitch for over 15 years. What he has achieved is on a completely different level to Neymar in terms of goals, assists, trophies won and performances in big games. The players you mentioned are all great, no doubt, but there are different levels of greatness. All players are human, and I pay little attention to what they do off the pitch, unless they're breaking the law or behaving terribly. For a man of 35, his performances were outstanding. Aside from his penalties, he scored the breakthrough goal in a tense must-win match against Mexico, broke the deadlock in their first knockout match and of course scored a crucial goal in extra-time in the final. He also created a number of goals throughout the tournament. Mbappe was brilliant for the last 10 minutes of normal time and continued to threaten in extra-time. He's an excellent young player who could go on to be one of the all-time greats. WanPintWin (Galway) - Posts: 2253 - 21/12/2022 16:31:17 2450914 Link 0 |
Nurses working through an agency over Christmas are on £79 an hour. Nurses doing their usual shift are on around £19. That's a fact. Some nurses take time out and work through agencies.
