There's nothing published on WW2 that I haven't read. I have issues with Britain, but give them the credit they deserve. The escape from France, the battle of Britain are the greatest military achievements in history. American money and equipment played a major role. American troops not so much. This is a Hollywood fiction fed to us for decades and is not reality. Stalin destroyed his own army through fear of being overthrown. Once his army recovered the Nazis were no match for them. You sound like one of those demented CNN broadcasters :-) Ones who couldn't handle the result. You are right though. Emigration from here means we have no business controlling any amount of people coming here while emigration continues. We would still be living in mud cabins if it wasn't for the English immigrants, and we would have no hospitals if it wasn't for the immigrants from everywhere else. Nor even be in the Olympics coming fourth. BarneyGrant (Dublin) - Posts: 3186 - 24/11/2024 11:06:07 2580958 Link 0 |
That's is the crux of it. Britain didn't win the war by winning the war of the skies, the just managed to keep the Germans at bay and push back the blitz. The Soviets and Americans crashed the Nazis and Churchill sent 1000s of young British men to get killed In the crossfire to cement his own legacy within Britain. It should be remembered that Churchill was booted out of office following the war, and embarked on a subsequent propaganda campaign to regain power that Hitler would've been impressed with. cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 5200 - 24/11/2024 11:47:50 2580964 Link 1 |
Isn't every country divided in the way they vote ? Don't you want a close election, that's called democracy. Otherwise it'd be called a dictatorship or communism. Why do you think it's a bitter divide ? I've lived here for over 30 years, in a liberal state & most people believe it was the right decision for the country. The democrats want everybody to be accepting but they can't accept when they lose nails (Galway) - Posts: 30 - 24/11/2024 13:01:18 2580974 Link 2 |

About time we learnt to have compassion for people less fortunate than ourselves. Now that Ireland's economy is strong and growing, immigrants can help grow it even further. Most immigrants come to work, and use them to build affordable housing throughout country. Ireland's young people are going to Australia, and likewise we can be welcoming to people from diverse countries. It will strengthen Ireland!

English "immigrants" lol. FYI, Irish people have been using stone for construction since Neolithic times, and the first English-Norman invaders constructed largely-earthen (motte and bailey) castles. I'm a corporate lawyer, and I work inside the deficiencies of the adversarial common law system, with its emphasis on primitive aggression and punishment. The Irish Brehon law system wiped out by the British was a vastly more civilised legal system, one which had a greater emphasis on restitution and community-based justice, and in which women were afforded much more respect than in the Christian-inspired common law. points50swiththeargyllsonthewrongfeet (Tyrone) - Posts: 281 - 24/11/2024 13:57:29 2580989 Link 2 |
"battle of Britain are the greatest military achievements in history." Most of the best RAF pilots were Polish immigrants. But you won't pick that up from reading Biggles points50swiththeargyllsonthewrongfeet (Tyrone) - Posts: 281 - 24/11/2024 13:58:35 2580990 Link 0 |
Trump will attempt to finish the Israeli war as quickly as possible, which means giving Netanyahu carte Blanche to do whatever he likes. Palestinians will be relocated, and Gaza resettled with Israelis.

I agree with you. Support from Ukraine will be quickly withdrawn and a "deal" will result. Remains to be seen, if in a year or so, Putin, emboldened with Trump being in White House, will continue his aggressiveness!

Trump needs 60 Senate votes to advance his agenda. He doesn't have them, so his radical proposals will be shot down in senate. His recent attorney general nominee Matt Gaetz flop is a good example of that. No doubt, Trump would like to be a dictator and bypass Senate… but that ain't happening… Ryanteam (Cork) - Posts: 399 - 24/11/2024 14:51:16 2581004 Link 0 |
There were 79 polish airmen in the RAF at that time. A good few Irish as well. It's not only the pilots to consider. The quality of their aircraft and the use of radar was key. 13 hours on netlist is a good watch of you'd like to learn about it. Do you know what communism is? It's not a form of governance. It's an alternative economic system whereby the people own the means of production collectively. It's a brilliant idea if power didn't always corrupt people.

There's an assertion here that totally overlooks Ireland's contribution to global affairs in the last 100 years. You should look up the "goodest country index" then come back again and try to say the Irish aren't compassionate. We're statistically the most compassionate people on the planet. The most laughable aspect of all this is that lads who are all "Oh, let us welcome everyone from everywhere" would have a fit if 300 lads from Dublin or their own county town rocked up to their local hotel and decided they were going to stay there. 300 lads arriving from Dublin as like minded as you? I'll take my chances with 300 mystery guests every day of the week.

I often find the people who are most liberal about this issue are the ones it will never effect.

What radical proposals? Maintaining a border? Keeping men out of women's sports? Establishing agency to tackle Government Waste? Etc. Wow, very radical of him.
