"players of Monaghan have now created a reputation of being untrustworthy, disloyal, selfish and egotistical" This is mad stuff, crazy comments. turnip12 (Monaghan) - Posts: 18 - 01/09/2022 15:25:13 2439326 Link 0 |
If players wouldn't respect a manager because he hasn't won as many medals as them, it says more about them than anything. There's dominant clubs in every county. Doesn't mean they should dictate how the county team is run. Coaches always go back to the club game. It's not a reason why they shouldn't get a chance to manage their county. That makes no sense. Strange rationale for refusing a prospective manager. Jack O'Connor never played county football and his club medal haul would be very meagre. Likewise Sean Boylan, who famously was a hurling man, never played county football with Meath. Again his medal collection would have been quite modest also. My understanding is that a management team of Vinny Corey, Martin Corey and Eoin Lennon have approached the county board as an option to take over in the event they cant find their manager. Anyone else hear that? Maybe this is coming from senior ranks within the squad. muckla (UK) - Posts: 370 - 02/09/2022 15:37:56 2439435 Link 0 |
Rumour has it that the Banty has been approached to take over the reins again due to the kitty being extremely low which means the county board are restricted on who they approach to take over..we're left scraping the bottom of the barrel… mick2007 (Monaghan) - Posts: 569 - 02/09/2022 17:09:49 2439455 Link 0 |
That won't happen , there's no club in Monaghan that will accept that !! How have the county board made such a mess of this , Questions really need to be asked!! Monaghan78 (Monaghan) - Posts: 22 - 02/09/2022 19:18:19 2439472 Link 0 |

Had zero interest in the monaghan Job despite being beside him and him working in the county. The whole thing is a complete mess either the coffers have been bled dry or the players are a no go for gaa people. At this point wouldn't suprise me to see an ex monaghan player be handed it with banty for company in some guise.

Why would Banty want to be involved with a group of players who threw him under a bus a few months ago? It was the players who forced the Co Boards hand on getting rid of Banty, can't see him forgetting that lack of loyalty any time soon. To be honest I think the players were being sold short with banty over the last few years, With a good manager in place this fantastic, loyal group of players could genuinely achieve something special. The candidates put forward thus far are either outsiders who are unproven or home grown men who are a further step down in quality from banty. What needs to happen is for a coach who has won consecutive club championships be sought out - Kieran Donnelly, Colin McAree, The McEntee lads, Mattie McGleenan, but to name a few. Very few counties get as much out of their players like Monaghan. They all play on until 35 or 36. FoolsGold (Cavan) - Posts: 2872 - 05/09/2022 15:17:09 2439762 Link 0 |
I believe this was only an Intermediate All-Ireland, doesnt really stack up to lads with Ulster Intercounty medals - who have represented their country no less! These lads need and deserve the best possible man available - and I'm hearing its more than a select few who are opposed to a lot of the underwhelming candidates. A lot of the young lads are supposedly willing to walk along with the county legends if the wrong man is given the job. This is completely understandable in my opinion as the demands placed on these lads is incredible, and if the county board can't match that effort and commitment then why should the lads be putting their lives on hold just to waste their time and get tanked come leagues/championship! Hard to think of any management team that can provide a coaching set-up that's going to please a group of players that have had the luxury of being coached by Porter, Donnelly, Buckley…even as far back as McElkennon. GerryD (Monaghan) - Posts: 337 - 06/09/2022 16:42:25 2439854 Link 1 |
Nonsense. Mark Counihan as qualified as any of those names. Mc Gleenan ????....tell that to a Cavan man,or to Scotstown people who watched him flitter away a couple of Ulster Club opportunities. Donnelly like wise. The Clontibret cupboard doesn't seem to overflowing with silverware after McEntee. If Colie McAree was interested,I am sure he would have been considered. Time for the tail to stop wagging the dog. Need a Co. Board to stand up like our Chairman in 2010 and again in 2012 did, which resulted in the MOR years and our most successful era in 25 years.

You argument has already been proven invalid by multiple posts. The need to have played, performed, won at a high level is a idiotic way to gauge managerial suitability. As for your statement on players walking.. Let them. If they are so quick to turn there back on the jersey then they don't deserve it in the first place. Bending to player pressure is the reason we are in the current situation. A number of years ago the Dubs took a hard line with player power and egos, "your either rowing the boat in the same direction or your thrown overboard", this is what is needed with the current group. Your obviously entitled to your opinion but if you were privy to what has went on with all the "big names" and why they walked away from this group you'd not be long about changing. We can't afford to have playerS walking out. Unlike Dublin we do not have a huge pool of players to choose from. Of course this decision belongs to the county board, but having player buy-in isn't exactly an alien concept in sport. I'm not sure why you think bending to player pressure is the reason we are in this current situation either. I would say it's down to whoever made the decision to re-appoint Banty last time around. We're currently experiencing the fallout from that.
