"A team that underachieved under our departing senior manager" goes to show what you know about monaghan gaa. The team that Andy had for u20s was the team banty took to all ireland minor semi final after wining ulster championship and losing ulster league final. I believe Andy won't be named as manager but I hope is named as a coach/trainer. Andy as trainer and a good player manager whether inside or outside the county would be a good mix. Colin Malone also a very good coach and a good shout I reckon. MonaghanBoi (Monaghan) - Posts: 55 - 10/07/2022 15:18:40 2431055 Link 0 |
To use your own words, your nonsensical post shows in your own words "what you you know about Monaghan GAA". Banty came up way short with the most talented Monaghan minor time I have ever seen. Andy was on his way to winning an All Ireland, with that same team but for the unspeakable tragedy that occurred on that tragic nite after the Donegal game. And that was minus two of the teams top players poached by the senior manager. Who can forget their heroic effort in Armagh against Down without their leader and inspirational captain and also without Mulligan and Gallagher. Andy Callan must have some role in our next management set up.

I'm hearing we could be going back too Banty with our tail between our legs. Blueblood4life (Monaghan) - Posts: 200 - 12/07/2022 16:24:22 2431723 Link 0 |
Major problems then if the players are the issue. Not sure what the egos are based on they have achieved nothing of substance in year. seanie08 (Monaghan) - Posts: 1880 - 12/07/2022 19:17:25 2431749 Link 1 |
Which minor team are you referring to?.

if that's true then it is very worrying. as i mentioned before, Monaghan have won nothing in 7 years. Roscommon, Tipperary and Cavan have all been more successful in recent years compared to Monaghan. I really wanted a change from the latter years of MOR era and Banty came in and, in my opinion, made all the right changes for a more modern adventurous type of game...That didn't really work out either. What's the common denominator? I don't really like pointing the finger of blame to players and I'm hoping what Blueblood is stating is just hear-say but as a group - Monaghan has lost it's identity as a hardy team who takes no prisoners. I remember reading an article a few years ago (I think by Tomás O'Sé) and he described Monaghan as a "Tuesday team," in the sense that it took him until Tuesday to recover after a Monaghan game....it was a back handed compliment that Monaghan could be proud of...i couldn't imagine any of the mayo or derry men saying that about us this year. He was minor manager in 2018, which was the year of Aaron mulligan, Sean Jones, Ogie Duffy, Ronan Grimes etc etc. That was the year they got to an All Ireland minor semi under banty. The other year he was involved was with U21 team which consited of Andrew Woods, Karl McMenamin, Robbie Mc Alistar. So before you start to talk rubbish get your facts right please. I agree with you on Andy Callan being involved. However he is not a players man, which is why I reckon he will only be a coach/trainer. I understand nominations close today. Expecting internal appointment here as no news on external candidates. seanie08 (Monaghan) - Posts: 1880 - 14/07/2022 11:24:54 2432011 Link 0 |
I do believe whoever gets the job must revamp the panel and bring change. This might include leaving out a few big names. James horan did a similar job in mayo in 2010 and Liam cahill in waterford hurling in 2020. Monaghan football needs a new direction for the next 10 years, crucial appointment in my opinion. Diasapointing to hear of players being the issue it has to be said. 222 (UK) - Posts: 844 - 14/07/2022 12:04:12 2432026 Link 1 |
Thanks you have awoken and proven my point. Banty failed miserably with a Minor team that should have won an All Ireland. The most talented team this county ever had. A team that Andy was on his way to winning an All Ireland with at under 20 level until that horrific night a year ago. Let me add with a group minus Mulligan and Gallagher poached and since dispensed with by Banty. And please, you don't really want me to elaborate on the disaster that was the Under 20 team that Banty brought to Cavan and stood with his hands in his pockets while they got obliterated. So before you start to talk rubbish get your facts in order. Andy Callan is well ready to take our Seniors and is very much a players' man as he proved in those dark days last July.

You won't get a direct answer to that around here. Unless people can obfuscate their post and hint that they are in the know, but fail to share anything of use, there will be nothing forthcoming.

Strong word of Andy Callan + Oisin Mc conville as joint managers and eoin Lennon as selector.
MonaghanBoi (Monaghan) - Posts: 55 - 15/07/2022 17:03:38 2432265 Link 0 |
Nope. Neither Oisin or Eoin want to be involved. I've it on very good merit that Counihan is looking the like the preferred choice at the minute, seemingly a very strong blend of both Monaghan men and outside expertise on his backroom team. Would be a great decision to put faith in a young coach with good intercounty experience. He will certainly know where to look to inject some youth into current squad. i see Seamus the USA man is setting up faults threads about Banty on the main page, has this man no shame. if Banty lost the coin toss in a game, this was a national disaster for our man in the USA , not winning Ulster's and ALL Irelands was complete and utter failure, yet he's willing to give the new team 5 years to build a team that only 3 weeks ago, he said should have been winning AL finals. patmouse (Monaghan) - Posts: 122 - 20/07/2022 10:38:41 2433060 Link 1 |
