I think its important that Monaghan go straight back up to Div 1 this year. I'd rather go up and down from Div 1 and Div 2 each year (Like Roscommon tend to) then dwell in Div 2 for years or even risk going to Div 3. The first year in Div 2 is always the easiest to go back up from, as Roscommon/Armagh/Donegal/Tyrone all proved in the past. This is because you are one of the teams that got relegated the previous year, so only 1 other previous Div 1 team in competition. If you don't go back up in first year down, then you always have two very strong relegated teams to contend with thereafter. Its looking like Tyrone and Derry might be relegated this year from Div 1 and so that's two very strong teams to overcome next year. No reason Monaghan can't beat Meath and Down in last two games and give us a day out in Corke Park before Championship starts. You think you'll last in division 1? You'll not win a game like the last time you went up.

Well lads will your top scorer so far in the league play in the forward now that he won't get a free reign in the other half of the field? RHF (Cavan) - Posts: 883 - 07/03/2025 14:11:15 2595239 Link 0 |

I expect he'll just bang them over from just inside his own half now.

Worst hurling team in the country by league ratings.

We had a decent team from say 2013 to 2019 in the small ball regularly competing with donegal sligo and tyrone whos stakes have risen dramatically in the past few years. That team broke up but secured a lory Meagher to its credit. It looks very bleak now alright, probably lowest ranked team on the island. Unfortunately the game is at dead at club level and young players aren't enticed to play. Who do you blame? Only so much that can be done. 222 (UK) - Posts: 837 - 09/03/2025 09:30:22 2595498 Link 0 |
If you were any sort of supporter of Monaghan GAA you would realise we beat Lancashire (not Lancaster) in Croke park to win a championship a few years back. So they are half decent. Lancashire have a students from all the strong counties playing for them so they'll have got more underage exposure than all our lads. We only got underage teams going again the last few years. As a result I suspect there will be a gap in players coming through. This could get worse before it gets better. On the plus side our u20's won their league today. Quick check shows that a number have played senior league already this year. Hurling is in a rebuild phase. No need for the barstool barons on here to be jumping up and down. Better to get the should to the wheel. MrPBoylan (Monaghan) - Posts: 233 - 09/03/2025 16:08:32 2595564 Link 0 |
