Another weekend of Championship football over. What games was everyone at??

Made the Aughnamullen v Truagh and Inniskeen v Donaghmoyne games,
Aughnamullen were impressive throughout and should not of been as close as it turned out. Bannigan and Sheridan were brilliant for their club really stood up and were counted for. Lucky goal in the end but they will take it. Looks like they will be in the last 6. Truagh never seem to perform when it comes to championship football. Anyone any idea why this is or what the story is down there?? Aughnamullen a young team and a bit of a run will do them all the world of good.

Donaghmoyne very disappointing after putting it to Clontibret last weekend. Inniskeen were far too strong. There was a strong wind in the first half in Inniskeens favor which I thought would play a part in the second half but this was not the case. Donaghmoyne seemed out on their feet in the big pitch, they are used to the tight field in Donaghmoyne. Inniskeen sitting pretty at the top of their group with 6 points. Big game Inniskeen v Clontibret in 2 weeks.

Scotstown as expected ran out winners against a week Maghercloone team. This side of the group looks like Inniskeen, Clontibret and Scotstown will come out of it but they could all finish on 6 points so will be good to see how it fairs out.

Ballybay look in big trouble. Rumour is that the players had a meeting midweek about management? Not sure how true that is. Really don't seem to be the team they were last year. (injuries a big problem).

Any intermediate news? How the games went?

Went to the Carrick V Emyvale game , Emyvale the better team . It was hard for them to play against 16 men

Was at all of the Senior games at the weekend. Aughnamullen Truagh was a tight affair that could have went either way at the end. When Truagh got the penalty it looked like Aughnamullen had run out of steam and would come up just short but they held the ball for the rest of the game and got a sloppy goal at the end to win it but they all count. Nobody will want to meet this Aughnamullen team in the relegation playoff the way they are playing at the minute.

Donaghmoyne Inniskeen was a poor affair. Expected Donaghmoyne to give Inniskeen a good game given what was at stake but they never caused them any issues. Tommy Durnin and Andrew Woods gave an exhibition of link up play. The only excitement from a Donaghmoyne point of view was the manager being put into the stand.

Magheracloone Scotstown was a waster of a tenner, Magheracloone look like a team resigned to intermediate already.

Latton took advantage of another poor Ballybay display, they need to improve big time ahead of the relegation group. In fairness they have injuries but a big downfall from last year that not many people would've seen coming. This Latton team are one to watch, I fancy them to top that group along with Inniskeen in the other group.

Saw Blayney v cremartin and I don't think Cremartin will top the group. Some good players but probably too many the wrong side of the hill and youngsters still coming up not ready. You could say the same for Blayney mind…

Attended the minor league final last night- What a game of football it was. Very impressive stuff. Serious points taken from distance and lads not afraid to shoot which is good to see,

Few massive players on each team for 17 year old's. McGinnity very impressive for blayney as well as Murphy in midfield he never stopped running. McElwaine, Mallon, Maguire strong for Scotstown. Should not of let the 7 point lead slip. Very exciting game even as a neutral. Can see these two meeting again in the championship final if they avoid each other. Future is good looking for both clubs.

Massive crowd for a Monday night league final. Clontibret grounds is in some shape, seems like its never any other way no matter what time of the year. Credit must be given to the members, volunteers, committees.

Was at as many games as I possibly could in monaghan this weekend and I would like to state the following

Aughnamullan vs truagh
To second half was a big factor in this game with the weather as strong wind and rain seriously affected the game. Truagh we're the better team and will be very disappointed fighting for senior status in the coming weeks

Inniskeen vs Donaghmoyne
Maybe one of the biggest rivals in monaghan football going at it, was expecting big things from Donaghmoyne as they're finally making use of there great juvenile teams from the past decade. Inniskeen lead by the complete footballer tommy Durnan showed that direct football threw the middle is the way to go

Scotstown vs Magheracloone
I've never seen a team want to go down to intermediate more in my 56 year of watching club games from all around the county. The Magheracloone players didn't ever want to be playing in the game. Scotstown are poor this year but playing his team made them look like all stars. Wouldn't be supriced in magheracloone concede the rest of there games

Latton vs ballybay
The weather completely destroyed this game. In Lattons second pitch which should never host a senior championship game again unable to cater for the crowd. The game shoulda been played in Shercock or Corduff. Ballybay by far the better but too many wides and far to reliant on a Paul Finlay who is well past it

That was some win for Inniskeen in clones yesterday.
What an upset, anyone down at it?
Inniskeen barely even have a crossover with football which makes it more remarkable.

Really impressive by Inniskeen who were missing their main man (Arthur) for the last 20 mins. I was not at the game so I cannot comment on the performance but Inniskeen are a well experienced team. Heard in the interview during the week they have players who played in 2010 final. That is some stint they have given their club. The likes of Hillard, Dowdall, Murphy, McGahon, Dooley have all been there a long long time.

Blayney have these servants too. McGuigan, Treanors, Rafter, Byrne. Bit easier for them to stay on that long as they have been winning. A lot of youth coming through too. They won't be away for too long. They will be chomping at the bit to get back next year they cannot be judged on the result yesterday.

Regarding the crossover between football and hurling I think Inniskeen have 3/4 players playing both. Blayney haven't many either maybe the same. (Blackhill, Toome, Cremartin, Donaghamoyne, Faughs all represented)

Also great win for Truagh against the Harps in the junior final. Harps a few of players (brilliant players) sourced in and went into this final very confident. Truagh a well knitted team who always play for each other no individual heroes. They always bring a big fight and never die attitude. Few veterans on these teams too,

I think Gernon is the only starter for the Inniskeen footballers.

Probably good that Blayney didn't win another as it will encourage the other teams in the county.

Heard Martin Fogarty on RTE recently and he gave great insight into the challenges these clubs face. Would get great if Monaghan could get a few more clubs going underage. There are parts of the county with no hurling teams nearby. Thinking North and West...

Great to see a new name winning championship tough game game to watch but that's how ya win Blayney had more than enough chances to force extra time but it just didn't happen for them, it'll give other clubs a boost as they can be beat hurling is a great game and needs to be supported more

Anyone know who the last team outside of Blayney and inniskeen was to win the Senior hurling?
Fantastic win by Inniskeen, I'm nearly sure they only entered a junior team as recently as two years ago, Blayney had sights on ulster and got caught Sunday. Perhaps playing in clones was a factor. Inniskeen and other dual clubs have some fine hurlers not playing which is a shame, it would give the game more energy but again it's testament to Inniskeen to win sunday without them. The double could be well and truly on for the grattans. Regarding setting up more clubs, it's very unlikely, latton have been revived and that covers part of west monaghan. A club probably need in north west eg clones scotstown direction.

Clontibret in 2003 was the last team to win it. They also hold the 8 in a row record which Blayney have came close to on many occasions but yet to break through it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monaghan_Senior_Hurling_Championship

I think last year they (inniskeen) played Clontibret in the Junior final but this wasn't by them entering the junior league. They just finished outside the top 3 of the Championship. Blayney, Carrick and Harps were the top 3 and then Inniskeen, truagh Latton and Clontibret were in the junior championship.

Regarding the dual players I believe every club has 4/5 outstanding hurlers who are not playing due to football commitments but that is their own choice, they cant be forced.
