Replying To Edman78:  "Paddy Dowdall having the desired impact for St. Lomans so far obviously, considering the same team avoided relegation on the last day last season. Now they're unbeaten. They won't be far off this year."
Paddy was an unbelievable player for St Lomans and Clonkill and Im sure he will be a successful manager in time. Lomans have an embarrassment of riches in attack but defensively suspect from what Ive seen over the past few years and without Dowdall now they are even more vulnerable at the back. If The Downs have everyone available I think they will take Loman out again.

Whoever beats Loman's wins championship and that's as close to a guarantee as possible. Without 7-8 county players between football, hurling and under 20s they're unbeaten in div 1 of the league, no other club could achieve that. Look at how Malachy's, Caulry, Killucan and others struggle to gain promotion because of missing key players and Loman's second team almost certainly promoted to div 2. The Downs will find it hard to replicate savage hunger from last year and Charlie Drumm away and others missing opening series of games. Injuries affecting The Downs more than others, long season last year taking its toll. Kinnegad likely to be contenders with a strong management team but they can't afford injuries.

The Downs will be back to contest it no doubt bout that . Kinnegad will give it a go to . I don't think it's clean cut for Lomans this year either did they get any new players in from other clubs

Moo loves to come on and have a moo now and again about older players. Shane started the Cavan game in Mullingar and was in 26 for Louth game.

Hurling Club committments would play a part too with a lot of dual players. Huge game first up for all Section A teams.

I know dates are depending on Westmeath inter county; but surely the county board could release the rest of the championship fixture?"
You are spreading false information about Caulry players missing

That link is just the pairings, not the fixtures.
Going on previous years, actual fixtures will not be made until a week or 10 days before hand. 4 of 5 options in terms of dates tabled by county board will come into play depending on when county are out of Sam Maguire. Should WH fail to get out of a very difficult group then the game v Tyrone on 17th / 18th June will be the last game. County Board propose to start club championships a week later on 24th/25th and alternate with hurling fortnightly. Very unfair on the county players and indeed their clubs. Surely they deserve a 2 week break at least. What about various league finals and particularly Kinnegad v Lomans ? Can't see them playing league final without county players.

A good few Westmeath supporters at the Louth Game around me could not understand how Dempsey and Kieran Martin were not brought on earlier in that game and how Lorcan Dolan only got a few minutes.

Very true. I would think that Paddy Dowdall as a manager will have one thing in his mind and that's to indeed improve that St. Lomans defense. Sam McCartan will play center or wing back this year according to those in the know to strengthen the defense, alongside David Whelan and Peter Foy on that half back line. That's as strong a half back line as you'd find anywhere. Foy is playing in the forwards at the minute but he will move back to wing back later in the year. Jack Geoghegan full back. It's those two corner back positions that will either make or break St. Lomans. I'm not sure they have the quality there with Dowdall gone, and it leaves that inside line very weak looking on paper. If teams can get at that inside line, Lomans can be beaten IMO but again, Paddy Dowdall will have something up his sleeve for championship, there's no doubt about it. They're playing very good football to date.

Anyone remember the Geraldine's GAA club (London) tour of 1963. They played in Caulry and Armagh not sure about Tubberclair.

Any news on the squad? The hurlers winning in Wexford would give you hope going to Armagh.
