I've been update for my previous comments and apparently Foy was indeed asked into the Westmeath panel this year but there was a change of heart. Can anyone clarify that or what happened? That's a big mistake on Westmeaths part if that is true. That was certainly worth a shot. Let him make his decision from there, and maybe he would have still chosen Longford, but he was seemingly asked in and then it was decided not to bring him in. Whether there are question marks over the reasons for his club transfers, one thing I will say is that he plays for Lomans as if his life depends on it which is more than can be said for some players that are "homegrown". He's been a major player in Lomans success since he arrived. Lomans hadn't won a championship since 2017 so he certainly wasn't jumping on a bandwagon! He would have been a welcome addition to Westmeath County for a year or two if you ask me.

Lomans could be minus 11/12 players for the leauge in '23 .There are the 6 that were in last year with Westmeath and i heard ,Whelan,Geoghegan and Dempsey are currently in trialing, plus Regan with the hurlers and kelvin Reilly seemingly going travelling .Then add Foy gone into Longford.

When it comes to Westmeath's league games , surely Lomans wont have 9 togged out on a panel of 30. The panel right now I presume is bloated and will be cut down in time. In saying that , they will have more than anyone else, and it did almost lead to relegation for them last year.

Big issue for them there in fairness considering last year they could've been relegated and only for Shane Dempsey they would have been and they should be without him . Same sort of issue for the downs too however with there 5 of last years panel 2 county hurlers and then there is definitely a 3/4 lads to get a call up from there championship winning team after there provincial canpaign

Lads worrying in mid November about missing players for following year's league is a new departure. Surely the bigger clubs can cope, Loman's were in minor final, some of those lads might get a chance, a bigger issue is that quite a few fringe players like Chris Gilbert, Conor and Kevin Regan, Paul Whelehan, Conan O' Hara, Tristan Graham and the Hogan brothers played loads of league games last year and then weren't deemed worthy of introduction in county final when Loman's were being outplayed everywhere and two corner backs only sacrificed. God forbid they'd be missing some players considering they have 2/3 teams at most underage grades each year and competitive in the junior championship.

What a fantastic win for The Downs yesterday, great game of football and looked like there was a decent crowd in attendance, Kieran Nolan was my man of the match, a dynamic display for sixty mins, Andrew Kilmartin was also excellent before unluckily being dismissed, Conor Coughlan, Luke Loughlin, Niall Mitchell sporadically and Peter Murray also prominent but a fine team effort. Will be total underdogs versus Crokes but they're in the final and other clubs will look on enviously. Lar Wall has been a brilliant appt for The Downs. Fantastic win. I see a bit of whining about the ref on the Meath page. Thought he was ok. Ratoath never really got going until the last quarter. Couldn't see The Downs winning if it went to extra time. I agree Nolan and Kilmartin were excellent. 2 yellows for Kilmartin were cheap enough and then Ratoath sparked into life. The Downs have made the most of the draw and now face the might of super club Kilmacud Crokes. Yes they have Shane Walsh but it's far from a one man show. It does raise a valid question though. Should a Club be penalised with the risk of relegation for having a number of County players? If St Loman's were relegated this year would it have been fair on them as a Club for producing a number of County players who were not permitted to play in the League. If they were allowed to play they wouldn't have been anyway near relegation trouble.

Its absolutely fair. The league is for competitive football for whatever team is available. Look at Killucan who have half a team every year and operate out of Division 3 but are still competitive when championship comes around. A balance could be struck, if Loman's or The Downs had their county players for 2-3 games then threat of relegation virtually gone. Re Killucan, yes they're competitive every year but bet Stephen Morley or Paul Briody or Graham O' Connor would be adamant that div 2 or 1 football 9 times a year would greatly benefit them. Look at Milltown this year, div 1 was tough going, lost all matches but benefits seen in an excellent championship campaign. But they do have their county players for 2 or 3 games. Which of course adds a huge element of luck to the whole thing, as the time you play certain teams will make a big difference. But as someone said above - it's only league. The main thing is the games get played at a regular cadence , which has been happening much better recently than at any time I can remember before. At least in the higher divisions.

The answer is simple if a player on county panel is not starting with the county they should be allowed to play with their clubs. Too many players on county panels not starting with the county, and not allowed play with club. Players taking themselves off county panels because they are not getting games with county or club.

Doesn't work that way. I personally know of 1 person who rang the county manager last year to ask was a player in his plans for an upcoming league game. He was told no, he then asked could he play for his club then if he wasn't going to be needed/used. Again was told "no, he's either committed to us or he's not".
