The go fund me account only has the amount raised through that link, each player had sponsorship cards which don't seem to have been added to that total yet but I heard the target for the trail was reached

The panel got 60k from Croke Park for a holiday, they should have cut their cloth to suit or at least the county board fund the short fall. 14 hour flight to Mexico and I believe players involved in the Leinster club have to be flown home early. Mad stuff really and Club Iarmhi will be fundraising in the new year no doubt. Lads fully entitled to holiday and hope they enjoy it but could have been managed better.

Awful concept for a fundraiser, people these days need an incentive to raise funds for a gaa team, the need something in return, for example, a prize in a draw, a social night etc.
They days of "go out and run and give us money" are gone.
It's lazy fundraising in my opinion.
Westmeath movathon would also have been a disaster if it weren't for a few significant donations

No problem with the other halves travelling as they certainly deserve it too, just not sure a glorified sponsored walk is the way to go. But given the restricted time available probably not a whole lot of choice. But maybe somewhere a little closer to home might have worked better.

More luck to the lads and their partners heading off on a holiday to remember after a great season, anybody can head to Spain so why not head off further afield, especially when fundraisers have reached the goals set, well done lads and enjoy

Only part funded by County Board-im sure Croke park and fundraisers covers the majority of costs In any case this squad have put in a lot of time and effort and huge committment to travelling/training etc so this is a reward for that and I for one like many do not bedgrudge them that.

Any update on a county u17 mgmt or panel? Is there a league or just championship at this age group? Who are the players to look out for?

Eoghan Kevlihan from Loman's is the manager with Chris Cole from Bun a selector. Trial matches currently taking place. Darragh O' Connor from Tubberclair, Oisin O' Hara from Loman's, Ryan Kelly from Shamrocks, Shane Cully from the Bridge, Matthew Thornton from Multy and Andrew Henson of Garrycastle would be expected to be prominent although all of the above names are talented in other sports which could be problematic. Lot of work done this year already at under 16 development squad level.

Cully is very promising alright from what I hear, Henson is still U16 I think as he played in this years U15 final so may have to wait a year. O Hara was quiet in the U17 final against Tubberclair who had a young Bourke midfield who kicked 3 huge scores on a bad day along with Kealen Connell and Daire o Connor. I'd expect all 3 to feature prominently judging by performances that day. Ryan Kelly also in the mix but he captain's Longford Town so that may be an issue. Thornton from Multy a good prosect. Aodhan Curran from Moate is also a fine footballer.

Was at the u15 final last year between Tubberclair and Shamrocks. Easily 4 or 5 from each team who could be involved in panel. If there are fewer , then I guess that's a good sign for the depth of quality in the county.
I see we are returning to minor at u18. And maybe even in time for 2023.

The Downs outsiders with bookies at the weekend which is surprising as our championship is at a way higher level than the Louth championship.

Hard to know because it looks like a good chunk of the Downs squad is in Mexico.

If the Downs have a full team I cant see them losing

The Downs only have Kevin O' Sullivan, Jonathan Lynam and Trevor Martin in Mexico as far as I know, they're travelling back on Thursday so shouldn't be any issues re preparations.

Tickets must be purchased online via universe.com - no payment on turnstiles. €15 adults, €10 students / senior citizens. U16's free and dont need a ticket. I'm hearing it might be streamed online too - usually a tenner.

Kevlihan ratified as new Westmeath manager
Westmeath GAA's county committee has appointed Eoghan Kevlihan as the Lake County's new minor football manager.
The St Loman's, Mullingar clubman and former Clonkill hurler succeeds Rosemount's Vinny Cox in the role.
Niall O'Brien, Westmeath GAA coaching officer, proposed Kevlihan to delegates at last night's county board meeting in the Mullingar Park Hotel on behalf of minor committee Alan Leech.
The meeting heard that Kevlihan, who is a PE teacher at Westmeath football nursery St Joseph's Secondary School, Rochfortbridge, has extensive experience in working with underage development squads and brings a terrific CV to the table. Frank Mescall, Westmeath GAA chairman, agreed that the incoming minor manager "has huge experience for such a relatively young man".
Kevlihan, a native of Old Bawn, Tallaght, played hurling and football with the Thomas Davis club in Dublin for 22 years, representing his county at minor and U21 level. He moved to Westmeath in 2006 and joined the St Loman's and Clonkill clubs, winning county, provincial and All-Ireland club IHC medals with the Loughegar outfit in 2008 before hanging up his boots a few years later. He is also well known as a cyclist locally, and is a member of Mullingar cycling club Lakeside Wheelers. Since retiring as a player, Kevlihan developed his talents as a coach and has been in charge of several underage and ladies' football teams in Dublin and Westmeath.
