Darragh McCormack is a super hurler, was injured for county minors last year and was a big loss, he's only turning 18 this year so it's his first year in adult hurling. He's involved with Leinster rugby as previously stated.

I remember seeing him hurling U10s.

Great players in Westmeath past and present. I just wish they could get what ever is required to get them over the hump. Of all the games Waterford played to get to the semi final last year the Westmeath game was the one they were luckiest to get a win. When I was at the Waterford regional college many moons ago it was players from there (Laois Offaly also) that were the heart of the team. There were not as many players from the top counties then. The Westmeath boys could play and lots of fun to party with also.

At the time only Universities were in the Fitzgibbon. It was Waterford Regional College and we played in division 1 of the higher education leagues. I can't remember if or how many county players were involved. Club player from the counties yes.

Again like Kerry if ye can become more competitive here and add to what is already a good team, competing with the big boys will happen. Young players need the confidence of performing well against the elites. Hurling has a lot of scores and I have always said if you can keep the defeat in single digits you have played well. I have always though the statement "There is no such thing as a moral victory" as b.s. Westmeath had us on the ropes last year and we went to the semi final. Only beaten by the best team for years. They should take a moral victory in that because that is the first step.
Now you see the big guns getting beaten by big scores.

This will be a big year for us with new management and a Leinster championship. We have to aim at winning 2A league beat Laois in the championship and have two of those single figure defeats against the elite four.

Michael Duignan and Offaly up in arms after Kerry were granted special dispensation to use three Limerick club hurlers in their recent match versus Tipp. Kerry argued that Westmeath set a precedent by recruiting Davy Glennon last year. Have to agree with Duignan, this rule was brought in to help counties at Lory Meagher or Nicky Rackard level, we can't be seeing ourselves as a weaker county when we're in the top 12 or thereabouts.

From what I heard Glennon came to Westmeath has a business in Athlone and his Mother is a Westmeath Woman. That is surely a different situation to Kerry.

Those Limerick lads have Kerry parentage, apparently.

How is it different Jobber? He has no business in Athlone unless Main Street Loughrea has moved significantly eastwards. He threw his lot in with Westmeath after Shane O' Neill dropped him from the Galway panel. Before that I'd say he couldn't name a club in Westmeath. The rules state this kind of transfer applies to Nicky Rackard level counties, we shouldn't be utilising ex players from other counties.

His mother is from Athlone and as jobber stated he came to Westmeath looking to play, not Westmeath to him like in the Kerry situation.

The Rules state that if a players parent is from a particular county they can apply to play for that county.Glennon's Mother is from Westmeath and what i heard is he has an involvement in a business in Athlone.I dont disagree with you on a general level so I take it you also want Jack Smith removed from the football panel.

Offaly have had "outside" lads playing with them in football and Michael Duignan seems to have no problem with it.

If Kerry and Offaly weren't both in the Joe Mc he'd likely have nothing to say about it.

Jack Smith declared for Westmeath once he became senior, he didn't come to us once Dessie Farrell or Jim Gavin dispensed with his services. His dad served the county with distinction for years, absolutely no comparison between the two cases, Smith has his best years ahead of him, the rules apply to counties in the Nicky Rackard or Lory Meagher, we're a Liam McCarthy side. Same policy adopted by Kildare couple of years ago and it paid no dividends long term.

And the Dublin goalkeeper you had last year ?

Did he come looking to play for Westmeath as well ?

Just pick the lads from your own county.
