Replying To Freethinker:  "Twas indeed a great victory last night. The lads were made battle hard and indeed according to some pundits were lucky not to be behind at half time. Having said that we were wasteful at times also. This is becoming a battle hardened outfit having fought back well against the Dubs and having to overcome all types of obstacles last night. We must remember that Louth drew with Offaly and on that form have to be treated with the utmost respect. I'm amazed at how this team is being almost forged on the hoof given so many players playing in different positions than with their clubs and unless that young Sheahan from An Tochair is carrying an injury, fair play to those who are keeping him back on the subs bench as he was one of the best forwards on show in last years senior championship. Best of luck to all for the next clash with Louth and let's see how the cards fall then."
A fantasic victory last night against a very strong Offaly side. This group of lads have a never say die attiitude and forged a win despite playing a large portion of the game with 14 players and facing a stiff breeze in the second half. We again missed missed many easy chances to stretch our lead but in saying that Offaly will bemoan their missed opportunities also. Every player left everything on the field and never gave up especially when we missed some glorious opportunities near the end and Offaly got the smell of victory. The substittions proved their worth again last night .
Another big challenge next tuesday . It is another must win game as Dublin will probably put out many of their extended panel giving Offaly a real chance of victory.
On a side note. Why do the GAA put these matches on during the week ? Players have to take time off from work or college and parents have t take a half day from work. Some Wicklow supporters and players would have had to travel aover 200 kilometres each way yesterday to get to the match. If it was the weekend it woud make more sense and their friends of the same age group would travel to the game . A great promotional opportunity is lost especially to an age group where many are turning their backs on GAa and moving to rugby soccer and other sports.
So well done to the players management on a great victory and best of luck against Louth

Well done to the u20 team last night...how many times have we lost games like that one in the past! Great week for Wicklow football...let's hope it continues for the next few weeks!

If we beat Louth it will likely be Kildare. They have finished on 2 points after losing to Westmeath and beating Wexford. The form in thier group would suggest that Westmeath should beat Wexford.

A gusty win by the u20s away to Offaly during the week. Again, it seems that they got off to a bad start but showed that spirit they seem to have to fight back and grind out a result. It is great to see spirit and resilience in such a young team. They are away to Louth who drew with Offaly but were well beaten by Dublin. The general consensus seems to be that Meath are the favourites to win Leinster based upon the fact that they would the All Ireland minor title, three years ago. If we get past Louth and into the next round, I think we will run any team close. Like another poster alluded to, there are a couple of An Tochar players that impressed during last year's club championship that I would have on the team but in fairness I haven't seen the team play so it might be for tactical reasons that they are not starting. Besides, in the modern game today, substitutes make and have played a huge role in the team getting a result which again is a good sign as gaelic football at intercounty level is all about 20-25 players who are able to start or come on and get a result.

Best of luck to the Wicklow senior team and management in the division 4 final against Sligo. A final in Croke Park is always a big occassion and games we always want to win. We will start as underdogs due to the fact Sligo came down and beat us on our own patch. Hopefully this will motivate the players if any motivation is required. Won't want to lose to the same team twice in a short space of time. Hopefully we can pull off a victory in advance of the summer chsmpionships.

Hammering by Kildare in the MHC. What I dont understand is that we have two top class 16 year olds, Tiernan Gahan of Arklow and Willie Cash of Bray and they dont seem to be even on the panel. They would have made a difference today. Watch these lads in our own minor hurling this year...

Disapoointing results but the players gave it their all. The two goals undone us as they came at bad times particularly the first one as we were well on top. The players should take heart and learn from the experience. Next up the Leinster championship game against Carlow.

Yes, the lads gave it everything and we were in hard luck for a goal or two. If the team keeps improving, as they undoubtedly have since the league game against todays opposition, we are in for an interesting summer. We really would need to take any goal chances though. Let's hope the U20s can get us back on track Tuesday night.

What was with 22 and the double skips literally every time he got the ball? Enough fancy Dan stuff and just play football for gods sake

Just back from Croker.

Sligo moved the ball up the pitch a bit better.

We can do better on the kickouts.

The conditions were really slippy.

Looking back on the game, I now feel Sligo were much the better team for a variety of reasons. We started quite well and went a couple of points up. They lost a player to a black card and we just sat back. They scored a goal whilst down to 14 players . That goal should have been a,warning to wicklow because Sligo cut through Wicklow on numerous occasions in the 2nd half exactly the same way, right through our middle spine. In the 2nd half especially once Sligo broke through our forward press they counter attacked in numbers. There was more than player running off the shoulder. Sligo were wasteful in the chances they created and should have won by 4 to 6 points minimum. We are very dependant on kevin quinn. Wicklow can be proud of their achievements this year and credit goes to oisin and the effort put in by everyone this year. However staying up in div 3 is the hard bit and he will certainly need more than one scoring forward if we need to push on.

Have to agree with all your analysis and comments. I felt during the game that we were going to be overrun. I also felt we didn't use the numerical advantage. I think the Sligo manager is in his third year with them and it has taken that length of time to get them playing as they are. Let's hope that Oisin can get a similar, and longer period of time to develop a winning system and mindset with his panel. Nothing can be built overnight which is what has been tried unsuccessfully in Wicklow for yonks. Staying in Div 3 will be no easy task, but at least this year the management team can have a good look at our internal championships - and not just the senior one- to see if there is untapped talent that can be brought on board.

I am on the whole delighted with our promotion. Straight back up. We can ask for no more. A win over Carlow on Sunday would be great.

On the Sligo game. I agree Sligo deserved the win. We are very dependent on Kevin Quinn and placed balls. We scored just 0-6 from play. 0-8 from placed balls. A little unlucky not to get 1 goal. We scored 0-2 between the 26th and 52nd minute. Not enough.

Best of look to the team and management tonight. I'd like to see them take this game by the scruff from the off and not leave it so late - and this is no disrespect to Louth. We will need to be more fluent if we were to win tonight and progress to the knockouts. I know it was a rough night against the Dubs but were we really just 2 pts off them ? And like I said in another post, Dublin may not be the toughest in Leinster

Something familiar about this story. Tough on the lads. Not many saw this coming but Louth probably knew they were in with a chance. They had drawn with Offaly. Question is, are we as far away as ever ? It seems like every time we think we are at the required level, someone has pushed the bar that bit higher.

Very disappointing result against Louth tonight. Put ourselves into a very strong position midway through the game and even near the end of the match. Should be able to see out the game at that stage. This is a talented bunch but once again it seems a promising team can't see out a game and a result. This is why we never win anything. Talent is one thing, mental resilence and becoming a winner is an added ingredient.

Best of luck to the senior team on Sunday against Carlow. Let's get the show back on tbe road with a win. Carlow are a bogue side for Wicklow but if we are to move to the next level after promotion then we need to win this type of game at home.

Possibly the most disappointed I have been after a Wicklow match. I thought they had weathered the storm when they scored the goal. Really came down to one player on the Louth team getting hot at the end of the match. He scored their last 2-2 (I think) in the last few minutes.

I thought the team looked really good. Their ability to hold onto the ball, move it, and their general S&C really impressed me. I think hanging in there and scoring the goal and Fee with the mark showed loads of mental strength, the second Louth goal was just really well taken.

I think if there wasn't such a wind we would have won. A Louth lad told me there used be trees behind the goal and they cut them down and it's like tornado alley since. So Wicklow GAA is the latest crowd to be hit by the biodiversity crisis.
