Didn't realize we were dealing with this level of immaturity on the forum these days.

Its this exact comment/attitude that embodies why we are where we are in Wicklow. Middle of Championship season in both football and hurling our county ground pitch is dead, but its too much to ask for it to be kept in good condition in peak season. Conleths in Kildare (Which is a poor county ground by any standard) pitch wouldn't be let die in this heat. Have seen other counties watering county grounds pitches on social media the last few weeks too.

The grounds do look great and the painting makes a massive difference to the appearance of the ground, credit where credits due - but I don't think its an unreasonable ask that players are playing on a good surface in this day and age for the sake of a bit of water in a heatwave.

A friend was telling me that he knew a player who was playing last weekend. I think it was in the east of the county. Anyway, he shipped a knock and lost loads of skin from a knee and forearm/ elbow. He will be sore for a week or so . Said it was like hitting tarmac. Just saying - though there might be a bit of static from the sidelines on this as well. And fair play to those who gave the county grounds a facelift. They really are looking well. ( grass excepted) A few interesting hurling matches this weekend. A must win for St Pats. Still, in my opinion, this championship is Brays to lose. Glenealy won't be far away and Kiltegan are on the way but, there should be another year or two in this Bray outfit. Let's hope that whoever the new hurling manager is can get the best players from all clubs onto his panel. Fair play to all those who lined out for the county team last season but a weak county like Wicklow needs all our top players involved.

Regarding the hurling, for a county with over a dozen clubs fielding adult hurling teams we should be doing much better. We should be up in Div 2A and competing with the likes of Carlow, Meath etc

Nothing surprising from yesterdays hurling. Is it Glens v Carnew and Bray v Kiltegan in the semi's. Kiltegan are an interesting side this year and Carnew can be tough but another Emmets v Glenealy final on the cards ? I have a feeling that Bray still have Glenealy's measure on the big day.

I have to commend Kilteagan; what a club. A tiny place with limited resources probably and not only are they senior in both hurling and football but can compete and win championship in both codes and have done so for a prolonged of time. Why is it that more clubs in the county with a bigger population can't compete in hurling and football? Fair play to all involved locally in Kilteagan.

All I can say is to be careful what you wish for. I have noticed over the years that there are a few posters on here who get very defensive of the county board whenever any criticism of the County Board is voiced, some almost to the point of bullying. I have no objection to contrary views to mine if they are put forward in a respectful manner. I am far from being an expert in anything, but if something looks wrong, feels wrong or just plain isn't working, then I will call it out. I have to say I have never chatted with any follower of our Gaelic games within the county who have many good or positive things to say of the CB. Yet they ( CB) are returned year in year out. From this, it has to be accepted that most clubs are happy with the status quo. The fact that I think they have been dysfunctional for decades is neither here nor there in the overall scheme of things. I'd better sign off before I get chastised again for "filling up space on here".

I must agree with you on this. It also has to be said that when Kiltegan are good they are very good and rarely drop back without picking up a title - in either code. Also for their size, they have produced many fine players of inter county standard in both hurling and football, way above what other clubs of similar or even bigger numbers produce.

There is another "what counties need new managers" article on the 42. Yet again no mention of Wicklow. Same with Saturday Sport on the radio a few weeks back. Pretty lazy journalism if you ask me.

The 42 one was written by a Kevin O'Brien!

I was thinking the very same thing about the 42 article...maybe they know something we don't know and a manager has already been appointed on the qt?!!

Some on here seem to think it's an open secret. Dogs in the street and all that stuff. I had read a few articles and heard on two different radio stations recently of a list of 8 or 9 counties seeking a new manager - no mention of Wicklow. Same goes for several writers / commentators re 5/6 hurling counties with vacancies. We appear to have sunk so low we are not on anyones radar anymore.

I know of one manager of a senior hurling team in the county that has turned down the county job

Any predictions for the football matches this weekend.

I'll start the ball rolling. Hopefully there are still a few people still interested in football matters .

AGB V Kiltegan. I was very disappointed by AGB s performance although they were missing a couple of players. This is going to be a tough game for them and I wouldn't be at all surprised if Kiltegan pull it off. AGB by the slimmest of margins.

Rathnew v Dunlavin. Again here I think this will be closer than people think . Dunlavin won't be afraid of Rathnew and will cause them problems . If Rathnew don't improve from their last showing, then they are in trouble.

An Tochar v Tinahely. Whoever wins this game will have a major say in the remainder of the championship . An Tochar were unlucky not to take out Pats . Tinahely should have beaten Donard by half time but couldn't convert their chances . Draw.

Donard v Avondale. Donards hammering by Baltinglass won't have done them any good. Avobdale for me .

Intermediate.

Annacurra v Kilmacanogue. There's nothing between both sides. Annacurra were disappointing against Coolkenno . Again if there's no improvement then its kilmac.

Ballymanus v Valleymount. Valleymount play a nice style of football so I'll give them the nod.

Eire Og v Barndarrig. Eire Og got an awakening v Hollywood. If Darren Hayden is kept quiet then they are in trouble. However they should do well here.

Stratford v Carnew. I think this Stratford side will cause carnew problems. There won't be much in it. I'll side eith Stratford.

Junior.
Ashford will have too much for Aughrim

Baltinglass have s big panel of players and will account for AGB.

Shillelagh Coolboy to account for Laragh

Blessington to beat Rathnew.

Any else out there to post their views.

AGB v Kiltegan: it is Kiltegan for me. There is a lot of talk about AGB but they fail to produce when expected. Kiltegan played well in their previous match and will win this one by a small margin.

Dunlavin v Rathnew: I was at the corresponding fixture last year. Dunlavin had the beating of Rathnew but couldn't finish the job. Both teams has regressed in 12 months for me. Cian O'Sullivan is a big miss for Dunlavin. It is toss up, might be a draw and extra time.

An Tochar v Tinahely: two promising up and coming team. Unfortunately Tinahely's wagon has stalled. An Tochar had the team of the championship before Baltinglass destroyed Donard. An Tochar to win and get another crack at a big fish.

Donard v Avondale: The hammering by Baltinglass will take Donard a while to get over, however if they have managed to put it behind them then i think they might shade this one. Donard narrowly.

For me it's
Kiltegan
Rathnew
Tinahely
Avondale.
Kiltegan should be able to shade AGB who are disappointing lately. Rathnew are always hard to beat and I don't know what went wrong last time as I can't see Bray going much further. Roundwood and Tinahely has the potential to be a cracker and I think that Tinahely, having been knocking on the door for a few yrs now, might have too much experience, An Tochairs lack of which cost them against Pats and almost undid them against Avondale. And Avondale should have too much experience and good strong footballers for Donard / The Glen.
I think that Balto, on what we have seen, will be hard to beat in the next and following rounds.

Attended some of the matches this weekend. Impressive and clear cut wins for An Tochar, AGB, Rathnew and Avondale. I attended the matches between An Tochar and TInahely plus AGB and Kilteagan. An Tochar and AGB were impressive and worthy winners. Out of the two teams, I think An Tochar have the best chance of getting to the semi final but AGB are an experienced outfit and shouldn't be underestimated. It will be interesting to see who they are drawn against when the draw is made. Dunlavin and Donard were disappointing today. Donard took another bad beating which won't do them any good following their previous hammering by Baltinglass. Dunlavin will be disappointed with their result against Rathnew who showed why they have won so many championship over the years.

I only made the Saturday games and was happy enough to have got those two calls wrong, judging by the fare on show. Arklow are getting back to where you would expect them to be but they will need to step it up again to trouble Balto. An Tochair ? An odd game in ways. In my opinion they were superior in all sections but their dominance isn't always reflected on the score board, which is what worried me in making my prediction. They shot a bit wildly at times but these things happen in games and teams can put themselves under unnecessary pressure when they do. If and when the lads from the hills learn to put teams away they will be a really serious outfit. 15 pts to 8 looks emphatic but with five mins or so to go, had Tinahely scored that peno, we could have been in for a hectic finish. Still, Roundwood will be happy now with the pressure off. Senior status safe and a quarter final spot against the champions secured which is a fair return on their first year back in senior ranks. Avondale and Rathnew were along expected lines but I can't see either upsetting their respective quarter final opponents, on current form anyway.

Your observations in relation to An Tochar are spot on. They were superior to Tinahely in all facets of the game but they kicked a number of decent chances wide plus they don't seem to have a reliable free taker. They tried a number of different players during the match without success. If they can address this area and maybe add goals then they will be a serious outfit as they have huge pace, some good ball players and they seem to be playing to a clear game plan with everyone playing their part. Blessington will need to be on their game to beat them. I would expect Baltinglass, AGB and St Pats to make it to the semi final from the other three games.

Listening to reaction on RTE this morning to the new Mayo manager and thought how lucky major counties are to have a queue of great candidates vying for the position. Then they went through a list of counties still seeking managers with again no mention of Wicklow. Those "dogs in the streets" must be right and have whispered into the ears of the media too.

For those of us who frequent different streets, what are the dogs saying? I assume it is not a case that the media are discriminating against Wicklow, more that Wicklow don't want the publicity as the county board have their candidate or are casting their own net within the county? It demonstrate once again our distinct lack of ambition. The other problem with this is that no quality external candidate will risk their reputation by hitching their reputation to our bandwagon. Does anyone know when there may be white smoke, will we know before Christmas?
