Fair play to the footballers on a great result and also to the young Hurlers who are soldiering on in what is a completely thankless situation they find themselves in through no fault of their own. Hawkeye2 (Wicklow) - Posts: 159 - 26/04/2022 14:13:41 2413346 Link 2 |
I don't fully understand what is happening within the county as i am outside the county and have no local knowledge but i take your point and respect the fact that you are in the know. It is very frustrating as you point out that with little or no investment, resources or vision the county is able to produce players like Kevin Quinn and Dean Healy to name two. Imagine what players could be produced and represent the county in both hurling and football ifcwe got our house in order.

Thanks for that. I'm really looking forward to the game. From a Meath perspective we cannot afford any complacency, and we must start taking our chances in front of posts.

That was a good win on Sunday, to be fair. Passer_By (Carlow) - Posts: 533 - 26/04/2022 19:49:39 2413448 Link 0 |
I suppose,in fairness Wicklowsupport, that the administration within the county are doing their best, as they see it. They run a tight ship, running a profit most years and everything in the garden (county) is rosy - or appears to be. Problem is, everything is far from rosy if we look at the big picture. We are bottom of the pile and have been for 140yrs or thereabouts. It's as if we were running an old fashioned corner shop and don't really have the ambition, drive, personnel or finances to move it into a convenience store , never mind a supermarket which, in this analogy, is where the top counties are. Until we, as a county, collectively decide that we have to move on and take the steps necessary to do so, everything else is just tinkering at the edges of the problem.

Yes i understand your point which is well made. You don't have to look in forsenic detail to conclude that as a county we lack ambition. People talk about supporters following the team or at the moment not following the team. I don't believe this reflects on the players instead i believe it is down to how gaelic games are marketed. I can't understand why there are so many club grounds around the county with state of the art floodlights and none in the county grounds. GAA matches are going towards evening games and away from traditional Sunday afternoon games; the county board would get many more supporters if they invested in floodlights and some PR. Maybe i am asking for too much vision and foresight.

Congratulations to all involved with that great display tonight. To me, the best feature was that the lads hung on and held out to the end. A Leinster semi now ? It will be tough but these lads seem to like tough. Freethinker (Wicklow) - Posts: 1609 - 27/04/2022 20:32:54 2413737 Link 0 |
Well done to the minor team tonight... a win on the road in knock-out football is not always easy! stringfellohawk (Wicklow) - Posts: 129 - 27/04/2022 20:50:42 2413741 Link 0 |
I'm a bit premature here. When is a Q/F not a QF ?? When it is a preliminary Q/F it seems. I suppose it's good to get so many games - and keep on winning lads Freethinker (Wicklow) - Posts: 1609 - 27/04/2022 21:12:52 2413745 Link 0 |
Love this. A team that relishes a battle. Hopefully Wicklow supporters can get behind this team now. They have had the odds stacked against them when it comes to away venues.

Well played the Wicklow minors on a good win. Tight game away from home and they pulled it out of the bag. Will be interesting to see who they get in the next round. Best of luck to them. I will be following their progress. wicklowsupport (Wicklow) - Posts: 2096 - 28/04/2022 17:14:00 2413933 Link 0 |
Strange thing to say after a 10 point defeat but proud of the lads both today and the last day. They have great spirit and kept going despite conceding the goals just when they were recovering for the blow of the previous goal and a disastrous start. On a positive note this team has potential and can make progress especially in the Tailteann cup if they take it serious. The glaring problem is conceding 4 goals per game. At any standard and even with quality forwards you can't afford to concede at this rate as there will only be one outcome. Outside the conceding of the goals, the performance at midfield and the forwards was good. If this management team are to get the job beyond this season and moving forward they have to sort the defence out for the next game. wicklowsupport (Wicklow) - Posts: 2096 - 01/05/2022 15:46:55 2414376 Link 0 |
I am very happy and proud of the lads after todays performance. I was concerned last week and think I mentioned about the 4 goals we conceded. 4 again today. But these are things that can be worked on and tightened up. There is the nucleus of a decent team and many promising lads coming through. The jury is out for me on the merits and demerits of this Tailteann Cup. But, we can see how it pans out.

To be fair the lads did their best. The first two goals were obviously killers but the team fought as hard as they could to the end. They did really run out of legs after about 10 minutes of the second half which is not a surprise given they played last week. The difference of playing divison three is ckear to see that is why relegation was a disaster,! stringfellohawk (Wicklow) - Posts: 129 - 01/05/2022 17:41:38 2414411 Link 0 |
Relegation to division 4 is going to set the players back. Division 4 offers nothing to a county trying to develop young players; it is a breeding group for bad habits. I, too am no favourite of this whole Tailteann cup competition but i think the competition has become vital for Wicklow this year as it offers us an opportunity to get competitive games against teams that we won't get in division 4. If i were the management team i would go into it with serious intent but we can't continue conceding 4 goals a game. It is giving the other team a huge advantage. We got 13 scores today versus Meath's 15; not a big difference except 4 of Meath's scores were goals.

Another battling win on the road for the minors...they are in with the big boys now! Well done to the management and players on a great run so far. stringfellohawk (Wicklow) - Posts: 129 - 04/05/2022 20:31:41 2414944 Link 0 |
Great result from the minors tonight. Refreshing twitter every 5 seconds is nerve racking. TopDrawer (Wicklow) - Posts: 67 - 04/05/2022 21:02:43 2414948 Link 0 |
Fantastic result for the minor squad tonight especially away from home and having to come from behind. Well done to players and management for producing such a good set of results together with only one home game. Optimisticobserver (Wicklow) - Posts: 136 - 04/05/2022 21:08:27 2414949 Link 0 |
Was the draw with Kildare in 2018 in the semi final? Did they lose to Laois in the Leinster Final in 1997? And Laois went on to win the All Ireland? TopDrawer (Wicklow) - Posts: 67 - 05/05/2022 11:06:42 2415003 Link 0 |
