I think AGB and Blesso will come out fighting this week. Basically knock out games for some of the teams now. In the senior , Eoin Darcy is at his best , young Eanna Nolan for An Tochar is doing very well in his first year out of minor. Rathnew defenders with Ollie Byrne, JT Hayden and Jamie Snell are a quality outfit. Joe Prendergast oozes quality, baffles me how he didn't get more game time with Wicklow. James Boland is a real player , his battle with Darragh Fee in the an Tochar Kiltegan game was intercounty standard. Saoirse Kearnon for Avondale is a real standout and should really be in around the county setup too. Ben Brosnan is really showing his class in the inter grade and after seeing John Fox in the flesh at junior A he has real potential.

Who will be brave enough to forecast who will be 2nd, 3th and 4th in Group 2 ?? Freethinker (Wicklow) - Posts: 1237 - 26/08/2024 09:20:03 2566837 Link 0 |

Does the top four in each group qualify for the quarter finals? Does the teams that fail to quality for the quarter final play in the relegation playoff?

I think - but could be wrong, that first in group 1 plays 4th in group 2 second in group 1 plays 3rd in group 2, 3rd in group 1 plays 2nd in group 2 and 4th in group 1 plays 1st in group 2. If this is incorrect, no doubt we will be enlightened pretty quickly.

Correct. Last in both groups goes into relegation playoff. 5th season done. All still to play for

Interesting results from over the weekend. Are An Tochar now guaranteed top spot in group 1? If so, could be an opportunity for Tinahely if An Tocher decide to field a weaker team and give some lads a rest. liam500 (Wicklow) - Posts: 185 - 26/08/2024 16:44:54 2566991 Link 0 |
From what I see, Tochair are struggling to find their best combination. They are a much more formidable outfit now than 2 yrs ago. Strength, experience and bench wise. I'm still not convinced that they have reached the stage where you could say that they would be fancied to lift Sam. The likes of Rathnew, Balto and even Kiltegan are seasoned sides.

Sorry - getting way ahead. Lift Miley, obviously not Sam. Only way Wicklow will ever lift Sam is when some player brings to a do of some kind.

I said it before the first match that I thought Pats would be in a relegation play off and I'm 70 minutes away from being right. Regardless I can see them beating Barndarrig... however here's a question for Urban ( I use it loosely I know its not a cosmopolitan) clubs. Are the clubs who are seeing an influx of populations into their towns availing of the resources coming in. Nevermind targeting kids for under 10 teams etc. Localfollower (Wicklow) - Posts: 8 - 26/08/2024 22:32:38 2567047 Link 0 |
Despite what appeared as an attrctive triple header in Aughrim last sunday the overall standard was poor and only the closeness of the games kept peoples attention. The attendance was disappointing the only real atmosphere was cr Optimisticobserver (Wicklow) - Posts: 133 - 27/08/2024 15:12:36 2567169 Link 0 |
Any thoughts on the management for the minor Football for 2025, in my opinion there is enough talent in Wicklow under age to challenge for a Leinster title, in my opinion. Albundy19 (Wicklow) - Posts: 65 - 27/08/2024 17:45:17 2567192 Link 0 |
I'll be pilloried for saying this but I think we don't have the coaches or managers internally who can get the best out of our underage teams. When the going gets really tough at the business end of the u17 and u20 Leinster, we are always found wanting. Some of the selectorial decisions at u20 in recent years are hard to fathom. Sometimes it seems as if teams are being selected on a geographical or familiar basis. These are just my opinions to which I am entitled. When we get into a Leinster final at these levels, I will be first up to say I was wrong.

Have to agree about the under 20 team the past 2 or3 years. Some strange decisions which cost dearly.

I don't know what decisions you refer too. Looking at squads through the past few years there are plenty of clubs included so I can't see any geographical bias. Coaches make mistakes and perhaps will have looked back in hindsight. They don't have the squads long because of the u19 championship as compared to other counties, the 20s manager outlined this at a meeting with the county board. There was full article in the wicklow people.
