Replying To WestWicklow14:  "Dunlavin look to be in a good position to battle for Miley 24. Cian O Sullivan to come back in the team would give the chances a big boost. Underdogs. Baltinglass look like they'll be hard knocked again this year."
No chance of Cian O Sullivan playing for Dunlavin this year. Left the squad early in the season. Had to much on off the pitch to fully commit.
Dunlavin doing well though. Don't think many teams will fancy playing them in the latter stages

Good win for the 16s footballers in Tipperary last Saturday.

Replying To willielee:  "Rathnew didn't look like world beaters yesterday however do they ever? Workman like in their victory over an improving Bray it has to be said.
Biggest praise for the weekend goes to the men of Roundwood. I questioned them earlier on this summer and with the internal struggle, the players have gained control of their own destiny, they gambled ousting their outside influences but what a performance yesterday.
They are playing with a freedom not seen for a few years. Great to see.
I have the Village as favourites but only just to An Tochar and Baltinglass.
Looking forward to the next round."
An Tochar are most impressive team I've seen in the group stage to date. In their game against Dunlavin, I thought Rathnew struggled in the forward division to get scores against Dunlavin's packed defense. For a young team like An Tochar to win the championship, I think they'll have to prove that they can win a tight game in the later stages of the championship when there is no second chances. Winning tight games is a speciality that Rathnew does most of the time. They seldom beat themselves in such a scenario and will play right to the final whistle.

I have waytched An Tochair a few times in this championship - not because I'm necessarily a fan - it's just the way transport etc works out - but I won't tip them to win just yet. 1-17 was a good score but conceding 1-15 tells a story. Balto appear to be getting their house in order and Blesso are not out of things just yet. Nobody will fancy meeting Kiltegan in a knockout either. The other side - it does look as Rathnew has the measure of all others. It will be interesting to see how Arklow, Eire Og pr Dunlavin would handle the knockouts. I still can't see that Dunlavin would have made such strides in a year to trouble the big fish or should I say , bigger fish. Perhaps they will prove me wrong and the best of luck to them if they do.

Championship giving good games. So far its hard to see who will win. Roundwood must be good but I have not seen them. Only seen one game in group oppossite Arklow yet. Wicklow gaa doing great coverage with the commentarys so far. I have been listening to most games and they are very good.

There doesn't as yet seem to be a standout team in either section. In the section with Balto etc, any of the games could have gone either way with the exception of Tochair v Balto and Balto v Blessington. Pats are bottom but could have been closer to the top and could still be in the mix. I suppose the only one apparently safely in the quarters is Tochair. The other section has the villagers safe and probably Barndarrig in the relegation zone. Any of the other 4 could make it yet. So it is certainly an intriguing championship. I'll still give the Village the nod - just.

The big tie in the next round of group 1 is Blessington versus An Tochar. In my opinion, Blessington need to get a result from this game. OK, it won't be a fatal blow to their chances if they don't but they've gotten off to a bad start and momentum doesn't play a part in it. For them to be on two points after four games, I think their defense of the championship would be done and dusted. In Group 2, I'd say Rathnew are through to the quarter final considering the games they have left to play. After Rathnew, you could make a case for any team. I think the next game between Dunlavin and AGB will make things a little clearer. If either Dunlavin or AGB were to win that game, that team would be in a strong position to reach the last eight.

Excellent championship so far , some great shootouts , some close scrappy games and nothing too one sided, fabulous entertainment! An Tochar and Rathnew the standouts for me so far, Balto and Eire Og humming along nicely after slow starts. The usual old dogs for the hard road in Kiltegan and Dunlavin. St Pat's and Bray seem to be waining forces. Blessington and AGB are underperforming and will be disappointed in themselves, but I wouldn't write them off in any aspect, simply too much talent to write off. Tinahely are dark horses , tipping away in the background under the radar and have the forwards to take a big scalp in the knockouts. Unfortunately a step too far for Barndarraig without their key men. Here's to more of the same please , well done young men.

Historically Rathnew and Baltinglass along with St. Pats have proven they can win championship multiple times. Blessington have won two of the last three and may do so again this year. I have huge admiration for Kiltegan in terms of competing at senior level in both hurling and football. It is credit to the club that they can compete in this way year after year. For me, there are still question marks about Tinahely, AGB and to a lesser extent Eire Og; these teams have enough talent to win the championship but never seem to be able to get over the line when it really counts. Bray are a disappointment, considering the resources they have as a club, they are underachievers for me. Dunlavin seem to have unearth some forwards which makes them a threat but the crunch game for them is against AGB next weekend.

I heard a rumour that we might be losing another outstanding underage talent to another code ? And, let me hasten to add, the very best of luck to him if it's true. Is it time that the powers that be in Croker set up some kind of scholarship scheme?? But I suppose the carrot of a professional or semi professional contract would be hard to compete with.

As a supporter, I am sorry to hear that we are losing outstanding underage talents. As a county, we need to hold onto as much talent as possible. However, like you, I would wish the player the best of luck in their new career. There is no easy solution to this problem which is affecting counties like Kerry, so it is not just a problem affecting Wicklow. On the other hand, Kerry have a greater pool of players to compensate for losses that our own county can't.

Don't like mentioning young guys names on a public forum. Possibly there is nothing in it. He isn't from east of the hills anyway. Possibly one of the best of our underage guys. And, as I said, if it's true, the very best of good luck to him.
