I'd share a lot of that optimism. It's hard to see sometimes but there is a great group of players there. It seems Kildare right now have the game to kind of shut up shop and be competitive with most teams. The problem is when teams do the same to Kildare they aren't able to break them down either. Try something different and it's way too open. Having shipped a lot of goals last year I feel getting the defensive structure right is the first step. The scores will then start to come - hopefully in the weeks ahead. I'll certainly keep the faith in what is probably the most talented group of Kildare players in years - if they can gel into a team they'll be a handful for anyone. Finally credit to Sligo - a few times Kildare got a couple of points ahead and I thought they'd pull away but Sligo hung in there and deserved at least the draw. brianb (Kildare) - Posts: 331 - 22/05/2023 23:46:30 2480724 Link 0 |

It's a great spot for a match. My favourite venue other than perhaps Thurles. Have Kildare footballers ever played there before? I'm sure they have but I can't recall. I think the last time Dublin footballers played Kilkenny there was in 1974 when both were in Division Two. Apparently Paddy Grace the Kilkenny secretary offered Heffo the points before the game! Played a couple of games against Offaly there in the 2002 Leinster semi final and won by a point after extra time in the replay. The drawn game was the same day Ireland were beaten by Spain on Penalties in Korea. Ireland's striker at the time Niall Quinn ended up playing football for Eadestown after his soccer career was finished. There is a story that he scored 3 penalties in a game; when commiserating with the opposing 'keeper after the game the 'keeper was not too happy and replied "Yeah - but you wouldn't ****** take one against Spain". brianb (Kildare) - Posts: 331 - 24/05/2023 09:49:21 2481149 Link 0 |
Any thoughts on the Tailteann cup in Kildare?. bdbuddah (Meath) - Posts: 1382 - 09/05/2024 10:39:52 2543795 Link 0 |
Kildare football has gotten what it deserves, maybe they should convince Seanie Johnston to come out of retirement.

I'm not saying they haven't got what they deserve this season. More the question of will the disappointment of their season so far result in the players giving up on the season altogether?. Have any of the better players walked away for rest of season?. I can only see only negatives for Kildare if their players give up on the season. bdbuddah (Meath) - Posts: 1382 - 09/05/2024 15:12:14 2543851 Link 0 |

Delighted to see Brian Flanagan being given the Kildare job. The job he did with the U20's means that he's been responsible for the belief around the county that good days should be ahead. brianb (Kildare) - Posts: 331 - 09/08/2024 14:06:26 2564397 Link 0 |
Good luck to him - not the worst time to be taking over Kildare. Cbar (Mayo) - Posts: 332 - 09/08/2024 14:28:39 2564406 Link 1 |
The target will certainly be to get out of Division 3 - while blooding more of the successful U-20 teams. Do that and then roll into Championship season in good form and kick on from there. Ideally we might sneak into the Sam Maguire and be competitive; but the main aim has to be a big effort to win Leinster in 2026 and be nationally competitive the following year. brianb (Kildare) - Posts: 331 - 13/08/2024 16:30:03 2564996 Link 2 |

You worry about Donegal and we'll look out for our own county. Leinster could be a lot more open over the next few years than people expect. Kildare, based on underage success, strength of club championship and schools combined with playing population are best placed within Leinster to make that breakthrough.

Certainly wouldn't with that attitude! While the County team have underperformed in the past couple of years there's a lot going right in the County. There are solid foundations to build on. brianb (Kildare) - Posts: 331 - 14/08/2024 10:12:33 2565052 Link 1 |
