Rory would make some addition to the county team. He has unbelievable ability.

My big interest is gaelic so anyone who plays hurling I call it unfortunate that they chose that. Taypot (Sligo) - Posts: 52 - 07/11/2024 10:08:22 2578734 Link 0 |
Don't shoot me now but I think there is a drop off in standards. I'm not saying that to be disparaging and nationwide, obviously both sports are on a pretty much even kilter for what it takes to be successful but not in Sligo in my opinion. I'm not saying that's right, I just think at this moment in time, it's probably a fact. With regards to both players mentioned, I would have thought of them both as bring there or thereabouts but I've hardly watched them in the last few years barring a couple of occasions, so what do I know? Is there anyone else involved in hurling, that could add to the football outside of O'Kelly Lynch and Griffin who have seem to have moved away from it? Is there anyone else that should McEntee should be pursuing on the back of the club championships? johncreilly (Sligo) - Posts: 107 - 07/11/2024 12:37:35 2578773 Link 0 |
I would tend to agree but the proof will be in how our Sligo clubs progress in Connacht. I think Ballymote should win on Sunday at home in the park, tough game for Harps plsying Mevlin Gaels away in Ballinamore but they are good enough. If Harps progress to a semi or final, Henry should be back from his injury. Best of luck to both clubs involved. RealSouthSligo (Sligo) - Posts: 109 - 08/11/2024 09:51:29 2578896 Link 0 |
I think the conditioning difference between the footballers and hurlers is huge. When O'Kelly Lynch came back to footballers in 2023 you could see it. In fairness to Finnian Cawley he seemed able for it. It's common sense really, the ball should do the work in hurling. Football is gone the other way with players covering huge distances. These players who commit to the hurling for a good period of time will find it difficult to switch codes. We were in division 4 when they last played football. The extra year conditioning for the footballers which seemed to bring them on in 2024 will see them hurlers further behind if they want to jump back in McEntees panel. To the Easkey poster, Rory McHugh would no doubt be well able but his lack of exposure to an Intercounty football panel would hinder him. Would be interesting to see though how he would get on and would his body be able for it. BreakingBall123 (Sligo) - Posts: 51 - 08/11/2024 11:20:54 2578914 Link 0 |
Sorry guys. I had Covid. It's time to move on from hurling in Sligo. Why is handball not being taken seriously within the clubs? Ice_cream_dromore (Sligo) - Posts: 25 - 08/11/2024 11:55:02 2578917 Link 0 |

I'd be the opposite - I'd be hopeful that Bornacoola will/should win and I don't think Melvin Gaels will win. I have no idea how strong Ballymote are or what they will bring but Bornacoola should be Leitrim's best bet of progressing in Connacht , and they are strong for competing at junior level. Can't see Melvin Gaels winning, they fluked the Leitrim final scoring three goals in 5 injury time minutes to win it by a point. 8points down on 60mins and 1 point up on 65 mins. Eastern Harps to win I think. Can't see Mohill beating Pearses or Corofin however if they were playing Coolera it would be a tight game with them both at a similar level I would think. Now I've laid my cards in the table it will inevitably blow up in my face. Enjoy the football o er the weekend. leitrim4sam (Leitrim) - Posts: 671 - 08/11/2024 17:52:38 2578977 Link 0 |
You picked the right player of the year, not a big deal but his name correctly spelt Alan McLoughlin. Alan would be the first to say he gets plenty of help as well. When teams targeted him others stepped up. Keaney had another very good year but Laffey deserves a place in this team. I wouldn't have any major problems with your selection but others deserve a mention, you do lean on picking on name and reputation for me in a few spots- I thought Conlon from shamrock gaels was the best corner back I seen in the championship. Sean Carroll up there with best wing backs. Kennedy for us was very good as well and Ryan. Jamie McLoughlin would be in my team of the year at wing back, he was outstanding for us all year. Robert O Kelly lynch was outstanding for Mary's as was Kyle Cawley. It would be tough for me to leave them out. James Donlon looked back to his best for Drumcliffe. Power and Smith looked very good. Lally was their best player though. Ross Doherty was very good for Coolera but I know he missed a lot of championship. I thought Oisin Gilmartin was outstanding for us and stepped up but would be lesser known name. Aaron Currid too. Davitt had a very good year and so did Coxey. Both need more help up top. Brady was excellent again. Keelan was consistently very good too. Sligonian (Sligo) - Posts: 1718 - 08/11/2024 20:04:06 2578988 Link 0 |
You are only judging games that was live streamed and even at that you obviously didn't notice that both wing forwards Jamie MC Loughlin and Oisin Gilmartin were both subbed in the Co Final. Molaise Gaels had no scoring forwards in both of those games. I would have gone for Shane Duignan over Marren. Cian Breheny over Ger Brady. Conlon was good but Lyons picked up his second Tailteann All star so I can see why he was picked. Taypot (Sligo) - Posts: 52 - 08/11/2024 23:40:57 2579004 Link 0 |
As I thought- Eastern Harps too strong for Melvin Gaels today. Melvin Gaels should never have won the intermediate title, Allen Gaels would have given Harps a game today. Best of luck in the next round. leitrim4sam (Leitrim) - Posts: 671 - 09/11/2024 20:02:32 2579054 Link 0 |
Two very comprehensive wins for our Junior and Intermediate champions however I would say it probably reflects on the very poor quality from Leitrim more than anything. They'll face tougher tests next week against Elphin and St Barry's from Roscommon but I suppose can only beat what's put in front of you. I don't hold much hope out for Coolera against Ballina. Well done to Ballymote, dominant win over Bornacoola.

Well done to both and hopefully more to come. It would be great to see at least one Connacht Final and would give confidence that the current grades of 10 teams in Senior and Intermediate are still OK.

2 fairly handy wins over the weekend. Melvin Gaels are all over the shop at the moment with a hefty suspension for their manager after the antics after the Co final. 4 of the starting 15 as per the programme didn't start. Harp's weren't great. The backs did almost all the scoring. Forwards are weak and Henry remains a huge loss. He makes them tick. Ballymote also had it easy. Michael Lavin is a gem. Unfortunately he will hardly stay playing gaelic. Zak O Dowd very good and the Brennan's are handy. I'm not sure about a right corner back coming up the whole way to take frees and the keeper could do with staying closer to the goals. They have a home draw again which is a huge help while Harps have to go to the Hyde. Both games will be very tough eoinog (Sligo) - Posts: 1957 - 11/11/2024 10:15:33 2579191 Link 0 |

Congrats to Eastern Harps and Balymote on 2 good wins. Some excellent scores in the Harps win. Tougher tests ahead this weekend against the Roscommon champions. Sligonian (Sligo) - Posts: 1718 - 12/11/2024 21:56:46 2579431 Link 0 |
