Massive win for saint marys the weekend. A sign tourla domination is over gaughan and marren away travelling big losses. Molaise Gaels comfortably winners Alan hitting 1-11 also missing a penalty but a superb performance and will be their driving force throughout the champo. Big win for tubber surprised a lot but have set themselves up nicely for potential semi final. Well done to a easkey who won their first game in senior after coming back up a tight but close affair their midfielder Rory Mc Hugh was excellent to watch.

Intermediate harps got over the line my favourite to come up this year. While farnans proved too much for their rivals after a tormenting league campaign. Bunnies had too much for John's who put a good account in. Geevagh to strong for castleconnor who look to me nothing but a one man team and now he's gone just a bunch of kids, Owenmore gaels next after there break although they had a tight last of round league tie but would see the same outcome again.

Tourlestrane had a brilliant run of championship victories but those days are gone and they are on a downward spiral now. I don't expect them to qualify for the knockout stages. Some huge names have called time on their careers and a few others have gone foreign. Gaughans, Leonard,Henry, Harte etc etc are very hard to replace and you have another few that will probably retire after this campaign."
10 of the players that started on Sunday started in a Connaught club final less than 2 years ago. It understandable that the team is on a downward spiral after a number of years on top in the county. The rate of decline however is the concern. Marys have a young inexperienced team with a big turnover of players from 2 years ago and yet beat Tourlestrane with ease. Its knockout football from here on. Can they respond?

Unless they can upset Molaise which is highly unlikely it will be to little to late the best they can hope for is to finish 3rd and avoid a relegation battle.

I don't think so. I had tipped Molaise and Drumcliffe to emerge from the group before last weekend. I was surprised at the scoreline because I don't think Mary's are that good. However if they can get momentum going they could put up a challenge . Ryan Feehily is a player I have long admired and I see he was back playing full back . Tough teak defender. I hope he commits to gaelic and forgets about the rugby. Throw in the return of Cian Breheny and Cawley and the emergence of the younger Rooney and they have the making of a good team.

A big call to say it's over. You might well be right and certainly the domination is over, but I've a feeling there might be a big performance in them this weekened. McLoughlin is a hell of a club player and will take some minding. Interesting to see the Drumcliffe approach after the league final. Still think Tubber have a lot to do to make a semi final though as I said at the weekend, I probably owe them an apology. When I read the teamsheet after, they still have a lot of quality.. Presuming Shamrock Gaels beat Calry, the game betweeen them and Coolera could still throw a twist into that group and who knows with Easkey. Agree on Rory McHugh. Not big in stature but a tough, quick, smart operator who I'd have loved to see in the football setup more. Drumcliffe and Curry is a game neither can afford to lose and I plan to go to it on Sunday.
Could Farnans now go on and beat Coolaney at the weekend? Can Enniscrone continue their good form from the league? Some interesting ties coming up there. Johns probably done well to be close to Bunninadden considering league form but we'll learn more about both in the coming weeks. Anything other than a semi final for Buninadden would be disappointing for Gormley after a good start like that. Geevagh with everyone available should win the group handy enough from where they are. Plenty of experience. I think Castleconnor should be more than a one man team considering Farnans can win without O'Connor. I can't buy into that. Apparently though as you suggested, an extremely young side. It's an intersting game against Owenmore Gaels who are coming in after a bye in the first round. They'll want to get to a semi final but the format means a defeat would put them in danger.
A lot has been said in the past on the format in the past but it has been great. After the weekend, it's must win for Tourlestrane. Calry and Shamrock Gaels both have to win for different reasons, St. Pats must win to keep any hopes of a semi final place alive and a defeat would almost certainly put them into a relegation battle. The same can be said for Castleconnor and St. Johns who need points urgently.
If you lose two games, it's highly unlikely that you make a semi final. Lose three and you're in a relegation battle and that's the way it should be. There really is no hiding place in this format which compared to other counties, has been a success. The group of 5 trumps the group of 4 in my opinion.

It's a good format. The only downside is that every team gets a bye and that week off, if it falls conveniently for a team can have a big bearing on their progress. Drumcliffe not playing last week was of no help as they will now have 4 games in 5 weeks. Shamrock Gaels will play their second game this weekend and have 3 weeks then to prepare for their next game. I know this inequality can't be helped but it can play a part in your team's preparation, giving lads time to recover from injuries.

Over I mean progression as I think Gaels will beat them and therefore will mean a 3rd finish at best after last weeks loss. Mc Laughlin outstanding was a big asset to Sligo this year and will take some stopping. Yes I wasn't to impressed with DR in the league final so for that reason I'm going for a curry win this weekend but is a massive game there also big underdogs online. Yes Gaels I think will beat calry I think there in big danger of going down to late in the year pulling a team together. Farnans can they I don't think so pats are not a good outfit expect them to finish bottom of that group and expect coolaney to be comfortable 4+.I will go to the enniscrone game think they will win handy but predicting to finish 3rd in the group are unlucky once again with a tough group but seen them last year should have beat coolaney blew it with Coleman getting sent off which cost them progressing to a semi final. Ya I see your point but farnans still have finnian Cawley an unbelievable footballer castleconnor don't have that pedigree player left probably Oisin Flynn and he's still young getting beat by geevagh by 9 points isn't great as there a older side. Ithink them and John's will meet again later in the championship in a play off final.Owenmore gaels very young and off a great junior championship run last year think they'll win comfy. Yes I agree groups are better it flags the levels straight off.

Any team that lost their first game and if they lose again this weekend in all probability will not make the knockout stages so there should be a bite to some of these games.

I see DRP v Curry has moved from Keash to Cloonacool to Enniscrone. I understand the weather has been terrible but seeing that a Junior A game went from Scarden to Easkey yesterday evening and with Markievicz Park closed too clubs are being asked to pick up the slack for county facilities not being up to scratch. What do we pay club sligo for?!

I predicted 3 of the senior games correctly.
Got 4 out of 4 with Intermediate.
As for the Junior I have zero interest because there are only 3 first teams involved so I wasn't too bothered about that. When Drumcliffe are allowed play a junior game before the seniors play it says a lot for the administration. Ballymote certainly had a great win and they will probably be meeting Cloonacool again in the Junior final as both teams should progress beating 2 B teams to qualify from the group and the other group appears to be a lot weaker.
I admire anyone who has the b..ls to make predictions each week. This forum has improved so much over the last while because of this.
I didn't notice your predictions....... I must go to specsavers.

I would expect an improvement from Tourlestrane this weekend as the last 2 performances were a disgrace."
The only disgrace is this post...typical of the comments someone makes behind the screen of a forum...but would absolutely never say such a think to a players face...some of these players that have set a league and championship record that will never be beaten.
