Replying To Onion Breath:  "U/16 hurlers beat Clare's third team but then lost to Wicklow by 8 which is pretty scary for our future hurling prospects."
I know there's mixed feelings about Eoin Garvey - for obvious reasons - but Carlow hurling could really do with someone like him now.

Underage seems to be falling apart.

Replying To CARPS:  "Exactly, And the poster doesn't even know how many teams are in the SHC.

It was 14. Because the final required a replay.

The football will have 17, or possibly 18 if the decider ends in a draw.

Not exactly a huge difference there."
Football has more clubs involved, bigger numbers so it should be given more time simple as.

Football is easier to play. For proof look at St Mullins going from Junior C to IFC in just 3 years. After not playing the game for a long time.

That's why there are bigger numbers.

Carlow GAA has an obligation to treat both codes equally.

The current set up punishes dual clubs. It's very unfair. And short sighted.

Easier to play?
A parent doesn't sent their 5/6 year old to football over hurling because it's easier to play.
8 adult hurling clubs in the county, they don't deserve the whole summer.

Hurlers are division 2 and have won multiple league titles, Christy ring Joe mc etc in the last 20 years. The footballers are still where they were when I was a chap. I'd say the hurling in Carlow deserves a lot more than the football tbh but instead you see the hurling clubs promote football aswell. It's a pity the football clubs couldn't do the same and show some more respect to hurling in the county.

- You meant "send?' Not sent, surely?

No, a parent sends their child to football, over hurling, because football is more readily available in Carlow. That's because so many of our clubs make no effort to promote both codes. Looking at you, Eire Og, O'Hanrahans, Rathvilly, Clonmore. Tinryland, Palatine, etc.

Why should dual clubs be punished for the laziness of others?

Where both hurling and football are available in one club, you'll find that a parent sends a six-year-old to both.

The problem is the lack of availability of hurling in parts of Carlow.

You are making it sound a lot more straight forward than it is

If Éire Óg and Pal became dual clubs what happens to Carlow Town? There are plenty of members there who see themselves more as a member of that club than either of the other two but it is likely they would no longer be able to field a team, is that what you want?

You think hurling clubs in Carlow don't deserve the whole Summer....
That is your view and its fair enough.
In reality the hurling does not take up the whole summer. After the Leinster Championship this summer when Carlow probably had their best ever result in drawing with Kilkenny who have the record number of All irelands, the intercounty players had a very short break before their domestic championship and the players and clubs played almost every week.
St Mullins played 2 draws and replays.
I for one salute the co board for not insisting on plating ET after both draws against Bagenalstown Gaels and MLR in the final.
The consequence of these replays is that Rangers played their first round of the senior football championship less than a week after their hurling replayed final as did St Mullins who played their intermediate football championship.
Rangers were very competitive and lost by a point while St Mullins did well to field.
The hurlers have brought serious honour to the county. They are respected by other huong counties.
Our footballers still remain in division 4.
On that basis alone our hurlers deserve a break and to have the best of the long evenings and the summer- such as it is.
It's about respect really.

Seems that Curran has implied from a conversation with KCLR that Simon Rea will be sticking around as 20s manager, great to hear as I think he did a good job last season, if that is the case i would presume all coaching tickets on the football side are ready with Curran, Rea and Kehoe for the Seniors, 20s and Minors. Hopefully good times ahead for all!

Good old Carlow Gaa. Cashless at the turnstiles but once you enter grounds & want to buy a programme it's cash only....said it to the young fella selling them that i had no cash with me as i knew entry was cashless & he just shrugged his shoulders & said well we only take cash.....by the way charging €1 for a sheet of paper with the players names on is some joke

Carlow Town won't be a huge loss. For the past 20 years they've been a struggling intermediate club, despite having a huge catchment area.

What they should do is merge with O'Hanrahan's and form a dual club. You could even maybe throw Asca into the mix.

In the modern game - with the massive commitment involved - 'area teams' pulling from a number of football clubs are no longer advantageous.

All current senior clubs are de-facto dual (Ballinkillen and Fenagh are almost the same thing). The main two 'area teams' - Carlow Town and Naomh Brid - have been struggling for a long time.

Those sheets are handed out free in Wicklow. Although that may not last.

So the long standing hard working members of them clubs who have fought to keep them going should just be told that their club is folding and they have no choice in the matter? I feel like that goes against everything the GAA stands for

Who said the club would need to fold?

Carlow Town would continue, as part of a broader entity. With all its previous honors intact.

St Andrew's, Muinebheag and Erin's Own didn't fold. They merged. To become Bagenalstown Gaels.

Big difference.

Never let the facts get in the way of a specious argument, says he, until he needs a specious argument himself apparently.
Don't try and equate the situation in Btown with that of Carlow HC/ EO/PAL/Askea. It's just disingenuous and well you know it.

What's specious about it? And what is disingenuous? Please elaborate.

And I never even mentioned Eire Og or Palatine. In my view, both of them should go dual under their existing identities. But I doubt either will unless faced with competition that forces their hands.

They have the numbers.

In the case of Carlow Town and O'Hanrahan's, you have two clubs which have struggled badly for many years.

They are almost beside each other - a merger makes perfect sense.

Some here suggested adding Asca to the mix. That also seems like a sensible proposal, given Asca don't even own their own pitch, and have also been stuck in a rut for a very long time.

It's pretty clear that Carlow Town will never go anywhere while they play second fiddle to a bunch of football clubs, and their players have competing identities. Naomh Bríd has the same issue.

Meanwhile, Asca and O'Hanrahan's are not able to compete with Eire Og and Palatine.

Thus, why can't the three merge. and offer something different to big two senior football clubs?

You're making 2 different proposals. Eire og go dual.askea, blues and CHC merge and trying to equate that with a town with 1 hurling and 1 football club deciding to basically change their name. You have the temerity to pretend there is an equivalence here. Gimme a break.
