No certainly not. I'm just querying why the replay had to be shoehorned into a Saturday evening when there was no need for it. Have you any explanation?

Let's keep a bit context here, carps.

A bit below the belt there Overthebar53: I wasn't at the game it was way out of reach for me, a bit unfair to say they have always been a disaster representing Carlow, from what I hear the 2 goals decided the game other than that it was 0-10 to 0-09 or 12 scores to 9 that's not a disaster or embarrassing. If you read my post again, I did say, quote, Ardee St. Mary's would be big favourites going into that game, and football is strong across the county. Carlow have a handful of clubs that are never fully tested on the way to their own Co. final, and you are sort of correct when you describe R'villy a disaster representing Carlow, if thats the case how do you describe the rest of the clubs who rarely if ever get the same chance to represent Carlow. supersub15 (Carlow) - Posts: 3049 - 11/11/2024 11:25:39 2579203 Link 0 |
Ardee won in a canter, supersub. No point in pretending otherwise. Just clutching at straws. WRT other Carlow teams all we have to go on are eire og ,palatine and OL all of whom have surpassed rathvillys record over the last 10 + years.

Here's your post again ,supersub. "They can be a great little outfit when they want" Did they choose not to be great on Sunday? "If rathvilly can raise their game etc" They never turned up, let alone raise their game. Stop digging. Overthebar53 (Carlow) - Posts: 284 - 11/11/2024 13:19:06 2579221 Link 0 |
Think positive Overthebar53.

Keep context in what sense - what do you mean?

I've posted before that I think we should reduce the amount of teams in each grade, to make it more competitive. Fenagh didn't too badly, but our senior and junior champions were way off the required standard.

I think we have to try something different as the current set up is clearly not up to scratch. Your suggestion is as good as any and it's simple to implement

I think no matter what you try it wont work, I don't think the issue here is anything other than appetite. Most clubs their goal for the year is to win a county championship, especially down the grades, i have never heard of a junior or intermediate club having a goal of winning a leinster championship. So a club that reaches their goal of winning a championship, especially if it is the first in sometime, the hunger for what comes next is not there and just go out to play it as it is a fixture that needs to be filled.

Are you saying a) this is unique to Carlow, or b) it's a general thing? Because, if a) well then it seems Carlow clubs have a serious attitude problem - and are total outliers in this regard. Or it it's b) well then why does it matter? If every other club county's clubs also don't care, then we just see that Carlow clubs are weaker. The fact is we only have eight teams in each grade and our three champions were all knocked out in the first round. No matter what spin you put on it, it suggests our brackets are below standard. Would Tinryland have done better than Fenagh? The way they hammered Clonmore suggests probably. Would Myshall or Ballinabranna have put up a better show than Ballon? I think that's pretty obvious. I seriously think we should look at reducing the teams in each grade even further. We have only 20 clubs. Also, one flaw of the current system is that - in senior - it's possible to have a year where two of Eire Og, Palatine and Rathvilly don't play each other. Another thing we need to do is reintroduce competitive leagues, with promotion and relegation. Which are not connected to the championships. That way IFC and JFC clubs can get games against higher graded sides. You could have ten in every league division. CARPS (Carlow) - Posts: 723 - 15/11/2024 08:58:12 2579673 Link 0 |
Let's be honest here, Éire Óg are the only club that have represented Carlow football well in the last 20 years. It's going to stay that way as well, Rathvilly are without a doubt the best team in Carlow at the minute but have no ambition to go any further. As for Fenagh and Ballon, has there ever been a junior/intermediate team in carlow do well? I don't think that's even an ambition for any of then

You need to do a little research before you start trotting out these fatalisms.Fenagh went deep in leinster not too long ago.Beaten by AI champions. Clonmore acquitted themselves admirably just last year. Ballon ditto a few years back. Grange were very unlucky a couple of years back. While it's nothing to write home about it's not the apocalypse that you're suggesting.

St Mullins play Offaly visitors Kilcormac Killoughey on Sunday. Another great day for our hurling champions! carlowman (Carlow) - Posts: 1849 - 16/11/2024 00:35:10 2579834 Link 0 |
Hopefully St Mullins can go out today and give a strong performance against K/K. It'll be difficult for them after such a long lay off but if they can stay competitive til half time then there's a chance. Don't think they'll have any fear going into today's game anyway. Best of luck to them today. Unusedsub (Carlow) - Posts: 90 - 17/11/2024 11:04:51 2579945 Link 0 |
They did OK in fairness to them .Absolute nonsense that St.mullins have to compete under such a disadvantage due to the obstinacy of our Co. Board.

Very slow to start and lost it in the first 20 minutes. Marty out of range with frees also. Have to agree they just weren't championship sharp. Otherwise I think they would have won that today.
