Word is out Donegal fielding strongest team tomorrow and second string in league final, as Mayo have to win to avoid relegation could be a rough game with chance of some serious injuries.

Panel announced, definitely not fielding the strongest team tomorro. Anyway, your statement makes no sense... if it was going to be a rough game with a chance of serious injuries why would they field the strongest team.

Bit off the mark. No McBrearty, Murphy, Brennan, Gallan, EBG, Mogan, McGee etc. nice to see Langan back on the bench. It's a good opportunity for the lads getting their chances anyway, still a strong enough team out and will put up a good fight!

Just watched the Facebook video of everyone arriving on the team bus. No Murphy or Mc Brearty travelling with the team?

Is that 4 games in a row and no sign of the team
Captain? What's the story? Didn't hear of an injury?

We rested 7 of our first 18 today, played in 3rd gear and Mayo still just scrapped by.

Would have been nice to relegate them but I think we're better out of a league final this year.

All eyes towards Derry now.

Much better second half after a poor enough effort in the first. Langan made a big difference. Nice to see mcmenamin back and add a bit of edge. I fear roarty may have put pay to playing with the twenties. He affected some really good turnovers and he's improving all the time.
Hope mcgonagles injury is not too bad but you'd be concerned.

And please get rid of that two point free from outside the arc. That one odonague got for Donegal competing for a kick out is only a joke. Getting two points for that and only three for a well worked goal is just wrong.

McGuinness said last week he was 'in a race to be fit for the Derry game'

Would've been nice to put them down but our result relegated Tyrone so it's not all bad. Extra weeks rest for the lads before Derry too

Best of luck to Donegal in the championship.

Good luck in the league final, we might meet again further down the line.

Good performance from our second string vs Mayos first.

Big game now in two weeks.

That penalty was horrific mind you!

Don't think we do much this year.

Not long back from castlebar, not overly concerned with result, even if we left it behind us after a strong second half. What I am concerned with is the amount of scores we have left behind in all our games. This has been donegals achilles heel in all our championship exits for the last 10 years, a failure to convert chances created.

Really looking forward to a tight joust with the oak leafers in 2 weeks.

Not a fan of the condensed season either

I concur. While I have no doubt if the league finals were not a week out from championship we'd have picked up the necessary points to be in it the amount of scores we're leaving behind is a worry especially goals. I dunno if there are XG goal stats in GAA but I'd imagine we must be well down on the chances created.

Have remind ourselves of that, it was a B team of sorts that was out and still performed fairly well. All the signs remain positive especially with Langan and Jason on verge of returning.
Derry are in a poor place and it hasn't clicked for Paddy Tally at all. It will still be a challenge but if we have any ambitions of All-Irelands then we'll be wiping Derry aside.

It was a bit disconcerting watching the game yesterday. I was non-plussed about reaching a League final because of the Championship looming so close. But the child-like Donegal supporter in me still couldn't contain the feeling that it would've been lovely to get a win against Mayo in Castlebar, especially when not a full strength.

The margins were so fine. If Dáire's penalty had gone in, or if Hughie's rocket had found the top corner, we'd have been in the League final, and I think Mayo would have been relegated. The leagues are fantastic competitions. It's just a pity that the GAA don't seem to realise it themselves!

Overall though, you'd have to say it's been a very satisfactory campaign. Looks like we might be without Eoghan Ban and Paddy for the Derry game. In other years that would have been concerning bordering on alarming. But I think the squad is very strong at the minute, and with the fact that the game is in Ballybofey, I'm confident we'll progress.

I didn't realise that was Mayo's first team out there yesterday. News to me.. Also people seem to think Mayo were going hell for leather, news to me also. It was a strange game with Mayo ending up in the final by accident rather than targeting it. Nobody in Mayo thinks this Mayo team are going to win Sam this year but this wasn't Donegals B team either. 10 probable starters. Mayo had 11 probable starters. Hardly A v B.

I counted at least 35 players during this league campaign (I've listed below who I recall playing), surely that must be a Donegal record for number of players used during a single league campaign?

I would agree with your accessment of yesterday's match. Donegal had a strong enough team out as a lot of those players were rested for the Tyrone match. Jim will be glad they got a good competitive match. Both teams will be happy their with league campaigns where a lot of players got game time.
