It was on the scoreboard at the end of the game. Cavan won.

Just on Kerry first of all, it wouldn't have happened with a Kerry club, as their Junior championship winners would be up in Intermediate the following year. It's a bit of an unusual situation for Kilmurry in Cork. In 2022 they won the Cork Junior A championship. That was the competition which qualified them for Munster at the time. However, in 2023 Cork football championships were restructured. The Premier Junior championship was created, which took the top 8 Junior A teams and bottom 4 Intermediate teams. So Kilmurry ended up there in 2023, instead of going to Intermediate. In 2023 they actually lost the Premier Junior final to Finbarr's and didn't get promoted. But as Finbarr's weren't a first team for the club (they have a senior team), they weren't allowed to represent Cork in Munster. So Kilmurry did, as they were beaten finalists. In 2024 Kilmurry went a step better and won the Premier Junior. So now they're representing Cork again. It's a bit of a quirk, but they'll finally be gone off to Intermediate this year. I actually heard something similar before the 2020 Ulster final, what I heard was that they were training for Dublin and some players were even left out of the Ulster final squad with that potential next match in mind. It was a mistake, Cavan were the better team on the day and deserved to be Ulster Champions, I felt Cavan were a talented squad who had seriously underachieved for years following major underage success in Ulster. Yes it was just the way it worked out for them due to the restructuring and the Barr's winning the county that they have been in the last 3 Munster Junior finals. I wouldn't say that it's unfair in the scheme of things as the poster previous said. Kilmurry are in effect the 49th ranked club team in Cork club football. Premier Senior -12 teams + seperate Divisions/Colleges section. Senior A - 12 teams Premier Intermediate - 12 teams Intermediate A - 12 teams Premier Junior (which Kilmurry won) 12 teams. Muff would be ranked 29th in Donegal if I'm correct in saying there's 16 senior clubs and 12 intermediate clubs? So it's the 29th best team playing the 49th best team. Hardly unfair!!
