Yeah I think that this year, more than ever, McKenna Cup games would have been very interesting. It was ridiculous that they were discarded due to player welfare concerns. I'm all for protecting players from burnout, but sure every team is training and playing away at challenge games anyway. Looking ahead, I'd say we can expect a bumper crowd in Ballybofey on Saturday Feb 1st when the Dubs come to town. Lockjaw (Donegal) - Posts: 9529 - 03/01/2025 12:36:40 2584434 Link 0 |
It came up on my Google Photos this morning, a year to the day since our first outing last year, the McKenna Cup game against Armagh. I was hoping that I was seeing All Ireland Champions that evening, but didn't think it would be the orange jerseys. But of course it was the Armagh U20s we were playing because their Seniors played Dublin in a behind closed doors challenge match the previous evening. Personally I love the McKenna Cup, the beginning of January, and getting out from under the wife's feet. It's a pity that the McKenna Cup has been sidelined, considering it would be great to get a glimpse of the new rules in action. I'm hearing that we have two challenge matches this weekend, one of them against Louth. SouthOfTheGap (Donegal) - Posts: 719 - 03/01/2025 14:34:33 2584449 Link 0 |

can anyone clarify something for me on the season ticket as I've had a few different stories - do you need 100% attendance of the league fixtures in order to guarantee an All-Ireland ticket should Donegal get there? or is it just 100% championship attendance. If you buy the adult season ticket at 150 euro, does that include tickets for all Championship games as well as league games home and away?

Such a pity the geniuses in the GPA managed to get rid of the pre-season competitions. All counties are playing challenge games , so they're not really playing less games. The only losers are the supporters who could have gone to a few games and the provincial councils who have lost vital revenue . greenfan (Donegal) - Posts: 585 - 04/01/2025 21:19:55 2584646 Link 2 |
Folks..I'm getting nervous..there's a good few pundits now tipping us for the All-Ireland now..unbelievable from where we were two years ago. I know Michael has returned along with other quality players but are we now serious contenders for Sam?? I would love to hear all your opinions. If Jim did pull this off he really would be the missah. Happy new year btw hopefully it a successful new year for all us Donegal folks.. I know what you mean, it's making me very uncomfortable, much prefer being under the radar! The last time we were talked up was 18/19 when we were touted as being the team to take down the mighty dubs... And that didn't work out so well. Totally different circumstances now though. I think we've as good a chance as any and there's no team that can't take down another on any given day. We've a manager who will ensure we're as prepared as it's possible to be and that's a huge plus. If it was any other year, I'd definitely have us as one of the favourites but I think I'm going to hold fire til I see a few league game and how the different teams are adapting to the new rules.

2020 was the one we let slip. We were in our prime then. The S&C at the time wanted a hard fitness session the week of the Ulster final and Cavan duly handed our asses back to us.

Hard not to wonder how we'd have fared in the AI semi that year pointless as it might be. That put an end to the pundits talking us up once and for all. Until now.

We should be in the All Ireland picture along with Kerry, Dublin, Mayo, Armagh, Galway, Derry and maybe Tyrone, but no pundit has a crystal ball or insight beyond that. The new rules will have a major bearing on matters, and nobody knows right now how the apples will fall.
