I think you are right there.I was thinking of a player being fouled and prevented from taking a quick solo and go.

Has anyone heard any word on minor management ? Some media speculation this week. TomRiddle (Donegal) - Posts: 8 - 22/10/2024 19:15:29 2576439 Link 0 |
No it's also for not retreating away quick enough and stopping a quick free or solo and go

Think it might be for mouthing and obstructing a player from taking a quick free etc. Not sure if it includes cynical "in play" fouling if you get me. Lockjaw (Donegal) - Posts: 9521 - 23/10/2024 08:43:13 2576499 Link 0 |
Just asking what do posters think of the u21 competition. Whateveryourhavingyourself (Donegal) - Posts: 57 - 23/10/2024 23:01:52 2576627 Link 0 |
Its a bit of a shambles. Teams struggling to field with lads away at college and some clubs struggling because players playing with soccer clubs. Games played in terrible weather on bad pitches. Also, seems to be badly graded, some of the teams in division 3 look too strong and there's a few in division 2 really struggling.

Did it go to 13 a side this year to try and help the smaller clubs? Also agree re the grading. The club that won the minor Div. 2 championship 3 years ago and now in Div. 3 competition. Serious lack of ambition on their part. And no idea what Killybegs are doing in it? Few clubs looking for a handy championship again it seems. peiledoir20 (Donegal) - Posts: 1042 - 24/10/2024 07:46:19 2576638 Link 0 |

Yeah I see Brian McEniff giving it airplay in his article, so there might be something to it. It would be fantastic for him to return, he still has it and to be honest we don't seem to have a ready made replacement in the County at the moment. He is a served his County with distinction and it would be amazing for Donegal fans to have the opportunity to give him the standing ovation this legend deserves when he departs the field for the last time after another run in the Donegal jersey. Yes it was 13 a side for Div 3 and that's why it's called a cup rather than a championship so as to allow weaker/smaller clubs compete. However as usual the bigger clubs only care about winning at all costs, and as has been pointed out stronger clubs dropped down to win something, to hell with the overall affect on football. 5 clubs have not entered an U21 team this year. Given the way the grading has been absent this year how many more will not enter a team next year. It is the same at adult level. The bigger clubs complain about reserve leagues not being competitive but there is no willingness to look at changing the totally lopsided league structure for first teams, and the unfair match ups and hammerings keep on coming. We in Donegal football are walking with our eyes shut towards the cliff edge of clubs going out of existence. We really need to look at change for ALL not just what is best for our club today. Murphy coming back would be a huge boost. Who knows if it will happen. High_and_wide (Donegal) - Posts: 84 - 25/10/2024 11:18:20 2576834 Link 0 |
If you left Michael in close to the square he would occupy the minds of opposition defenders, making them take a step or two back from the edge of the new arc. Thus would give our two point kickers more time and space. It would also give us another benefit. How m0any goals in the Championship last year were as a result of point efforts falling short. I would safely say 40% came about this way. Even Ulster's last goal against Connacht on Saturday was a two point effort for an equaliser that dropped short. Imagine having the presence of Michael in there in those scenarios. SouthOfTheGap (Donegal) - Posts: 707 - 25/10/2024 11:58:09 2576845 Link 1 |
i'm not sure the 3 up top will be as successful as some people think. Even if a team keeps 3 up top, the opposition can still keep plenty players back to tie them up

You are absolutely right. The extra space should suit the fast skillfull forwards. There might need to be a rethink on what type of players would be selected. We haven't been great at creating goal chances or indeed taking ones that we do create. It should suit Fara because he is brilliant at making those moves in to space and he wouldn't have to chase back in to his own half which seems to take a toll on him late in games.I don't think he is one with that sort of stamina.

My thoughts on 3 up is that teams will play 3 ball-winning speedsters on the half-way line. The attacking team will play 3 back to mark them plus a sweeper in behind. Goalkeepers, in the main, will stay home unless for more mobile keepers they become the sweeper. Then you have 10 attackers v 12 defenders with the defenders content to wait and win the ball back before launching it forward for the speedsters to run onto. If they take their score then they'll let the opposing team have the ball and fall back into defensive mode. Counter attacking like soccer has become - better off without the ball the majority of the time. Fitness levels will need to be off the scale. It'll be interesting to see how it pans out. The 3 up front with Murphy staying in round the square would torture defences and give them an awful headache, Tirchonaill1 (Donegal) - Posts: 3041 - 25/10/2024 17:37:47 2576927 Link 0 |
What are big clubs meant to do in regards to reserve football? They try and enter other comps but the clubs at that level won't allow it. It needs to be looked at ASAP!

I wonder how many other counties are ignoring the ban on collective training? Cabair O'Kane (I think) said on Twitter that one county has been back training for the past 6 weeks, which would be 7 now! ThroughTheGap (Donegal) - Posts: 47 - 26/10/2024 20:24:22 2577078 Link 0 |
I wonder what team is he on about. Definitely has to be an Ulster team.?

Well, I know of one team that are 100% back doing collective sessions but I don't know for how long they've been doing it. Let's just say that there's also speculation that this team will also be rejoined by a former great player who stepped away a few years ago.
