We also can't ignore the fact that we scored only 4 points in the second half, with two of those coming in the opening five minutes of the half. We scored one point from the 40th minute to the 74th. That also won't be good enough in four weeks time. That's the last three penalties we have missed, two from Michael, one from Paddy. Who do we fancy next? Does Michael Langan take them for St Michael's? A bit left field, but would McFadden Ferry be an option?" Surely Jamie Brennan or Peadar Mogan are penalty taking men? They both have that lower center of gravity look about them. At full strength when we have Murphy, McBrearty, Langan, Thompson, McGee, McGonigle and Hugh McFadden, we have such a wide array of high fielders, that it gives Patton so many extra options that we contend for. I'd still like to have Oisin Gallen back as a taller option than Brennan, he is a huge loss to Donegal and I hope is back in before Championship. I'd be surprised if he walks away from this without a ban. The swing was very noticeable. I don't think Murphy wants to take them anymore anyway which is fair enough. It's probably in his head as much as anything. Maybe just have an aul penalty taker competition for those interested and who's the best is the taker. I sense langan would be good and maybe Thompson. He's a very reliable free taker for NC. I'm never that sure on mcbrearty as he's just not a great finisher of goals. He tends to blast his shots. On the soccer point I think Joel Bradley Walsh is in training and is probably a kind of project player given that he's not played much Gaelic. He was for example very composed in his hat-trick for lyit against ul. He passed the ball into the goal and didn't look like missing the penalty. I'd say his soccer background really helps with that. " I didn't know that so we may forget about it so, next years league is a long time away and we'll hardly be too worried about the early rounds anyway after winning Sam!! On the penalty situation I think at this stage we should forget Michael and Paddy for taking them, see who else wants to take them and then practice them a lot, it's no that hard in theory anyway! I rem listening to Johnny Giles on Newstalk saying how they used to practice penalties at Leeds, he said he'd always pick his spot and not change his mind then, they won't all go in anyway. This game is set up nicely now, there's a buzz about already from talking to a few lads about it, hope we get a few more men back from injury before then too. " I'm pretty sure suspensions arising from this incident will no doubt impact their ability to play in the Championship. There are different types of suspensions with exceptions being applied to the type of red card. You would think punching someone on the face after the game would fall under the category of the highest offense. We will just have to wait and see. " You're wrong there, they are applied to the next game played at the same level. In this case, the next inter county game.. They may be classed as category Three offences. In the official guide, listed as Rule 5.17; 'To behave in any way which is dangerous to an opponent.' Yeah the key for penalties is your own conviction. Don't be distracted by what is going on around you. Make an early decision where you're going to put it and stick with it no matter what the goalkeeper is doing. Indecisiveness inevitably leads to a poor contact with the ball and is more easily saved. Croke park hopefully will make an early decision. Once the suspensions of any are handed out then the appeals start. Looking at the row a lot more Armagh players are seen striking maybe that's because I didn't want to see a Donegal player striking. I don't believe in this of suspending the same amount of players on every team. If your goin to suspend do it right and don't do a Kip out. For once I agree with you, no cop outs like refs often do giving 2 yellow cards for a scuffle when it was clearly the defender stopping the forward from trying to get away. We need a strong ref for this next game who will crack down early only on the cynical fouling from Armagh. If they are going to suspend players from this incident then do it right, only suspend whoever clearly struck an opponent, no cop outs by suspending equal numbers from each team just to cover their own ars. All county leagues starting this weekend without much fanfare - maybe due to the exclusion of county players? Anyways at least it gives other players a chance to catch the eye. New format and three up and three down from relevant divisions. Any predictions? I'll go: Div1: Eunans (Winners) Glenfin, Killybegs and Bundoran to make the drop Div 2: Naomh Columba (Winners) Sean MacCumhaills & Buncrana promoted. Looking at the complete National League results Round 1 (A): Donegal 0-11 vs 0-11 Mayo Round 2 (H): Donegal 2-11 vs 1-09 Kildare Round 3 (A): Donegal 0-07 vs 1-13 Kerry Round 4 (H): Donegal 2-10 vs 0-12 Tyrone Round 5 (H): Donegal 0-10 vs 1-12 Monaghan Round 6 (A): Donegal 2-11 vs 2-15 Dublin Round 7 (H): Donegal 1-14 vs 1-13 Armagh Average scored = 1-11 (14 pts) Average conceded = 1-12 (15 pts) The total average is actually flattering us slightly, because we conceded 1-13 on average in the last 5 games and only scored 1-10.4 per game on average, however our scoring did increase in the last 2 matches with players returning. This is my fear with players who will get very little game time during Championship barring a bad run of injuries (hopefully not!). The likes of Aaron & Eunan Doherty, Mark Curran, Tony McClenaghan to name a few.
