In the final round to be played at neutral venues, the provincial winners face the provincial runners-up and the No3 seeds take on the No4 seeds.
opening rounds will take place on the weekend of May 20/21.

Top team in each group into Quarter final. Second place teams play third place team in a play off and winner into Quarter final.

So it's imperative to win Ulster to gave our self a chance. Wonder who will be the captain my choice is eoin ban a model player and a definite starter. If not Stephen Mc menamin. Only my opinion.

I'd like to see Paddy McBrearty get it. He's the most senior player in the squad, only man left with an all ireland medal and 5 ulster's.

The automatic captain and he has leadership is Hugh McFadden but unfortunately I don't see him having a big part to play this season if any. Paddy is terrible shout he has no leadership and is more of individual than a team player.

Lets be honest nobody will come close to Murphy as a captain for Donegal.

Hugh was vice captain last year do he would be the logical choice. But he might not start midfield much next year, the new manager could have other ideas. Now you could make High Captain if you play him at 14 and he stays inside on the square. He would be an excellent target man. He played his best football over the years in the square......just a thought.

Aye Hugh might be more use in at 14 alright, the old-style long ball in has paid dividends for many teams in recent years, we have been far too predictable and one dimensional in recent years.
Still can't believe Murphy is gone tbh, he had a few years left to play in at FF in my opinion, still the best player in this county by a country mile.
He was a great influence to have around too for any younger players stepping up to the senior panel, whatever has gone on with the mess the county board made of the new managerial appointment was a contributing factor in Murphys decision I think anyway.
On another point I was thinking about we have been saying on here that it's no wonder the county team play the way they do cause it's all they see at club level etc. well that should not be the case, it's up to the county manager to select and set a team up to play the way he wants them to.

Michael Murphy right now retired is still in the 5 Full Forwards in the Country, not to mind county.
He could easily played another couple of years at Full Forward ( if he stayed in). The problem was that for whatever reason Michael ended up coming out the field and things didn't work out for him or the Donegal Team, if he stayed on for another few years at his current role it wasn't going to win Donegal more Ulster titles, it was only going to tarnish his reputation because we seen towards the end a bit if frustration seeping in. He is the greatest number 14 in the game I ever seen. ( Kieran Donaghy was his closest competition)

Club football in Donegal amazes me ( even though I am playing it/ watching it for past 12+ years....)
Possession is King because if you have the ball the other team can't score. So the game plan is sit deep, force the other team to make a mistake and turnover the ball. When that happens, bring the ball up the field but don't lose possession. So the build up is slow. Keep moving the ball until a player is in a 99% certain scoring position and then and only then do you shoot.....

There seems to be a glory in Donegal football management that to lose by one or two in a slog is better than to lose by 5 or 6 if you have a go.....

The chat about Hugh McFadden as captain doesn't fit for me. He's not an automatic starter, while he has improved a lot in recent years I don't think he's at the level needed to win things. The likes of Michael Langan could be a good choice, talented and likely to be a key player for years to come. It wasn't a bad idea to make a talented young player captain all those years ago, maybe it could work again.

What's the feedback on the upcoming Donegal convention. A few important positions being contested. You can't teach old dogs new tricks.

Listening to Paddy Carr with the legend DV i never heard an interview like it imo. We are going to have a long poor season.

Where was that interview on? I haven't heard the man speak a word yet in fact if I walked past him in the street I wouldn't even recognise him.

Amazing. Writing a manager off based on a radio interview before a ball is kicked.

I'm not a big gambler, but I always have a wee punt at our boys at this time of year. For many years now we have ranged from 16/1 to 25/1 at this time of year. Prior to Michaels retirement and the announcement of the management team we were at 20/1. Today, 50/1. I'd say each of those events added 15 to our odds. Would a tenner each way be madness....

Listening to Paul McGonigle speak recently makes me think he would make an excellent county chairman. Just good common sense progressive thinking. Good luck Paul.

Your obviously not a true Donegal supporter. Paddy and his backroom team deserve a fair crack at the whip like all previous managers. The task is daunting enough after loosing the best Donegal player of all time. There is far too much negativity around the new management. Give them a fair chance.

I guess so hate to say it but keep your money in your pocket. Hopefully I'm wrong but I doubt it.

Just copped on what you meant, the DL debate he was on, my God no harm to the man that was an awful load of waffle from him. it reminds me a wee bit of when Stan took over the international soccer team, his areas of green grass comments etc.
I don't know the man but from listening to him he's not going to inspire anyone to play, he might put a few defences to sleep though if they spend any amount of time listening to him,
forget about it lads we are in for a long barren time ahead at least until maybe Murphy comes back in to lead us from the line. I hope I'm wrong obviously, be interesting to see now what panel is available for the new campaign.
