Father manning Gales were not a small club back then. They had the pick of Drumlish, Ballinamuck and surrounding areas. I think that there were quite a few outsiders as well in their ranks

All clubs in Longford are small relative to the super clubs in Leinster I was referring to. Drumlish were a small club then and now, having the pick of your own parish does not make you big. The only outsiders on that team I can think of were the Bradys and Mulleadys who lived in my own parish and no one from Clonguish ever expected them to play here given their family links. The same slight was put on the Clonguish 60s team begrudging their victories to "outsiders". Waffle

Now that you say it, that sounds very familiar about the wide being given as a point. Had no recollection that the Gaels had a likely point disallowed also.

Here is a link to the article about it... link. I think the appeal ended up focusing solely on the Davis point near the end which was disallowed. Either way the Gaels were certainly hard done by at the time.

Well done to all the recent winners grattens, ballymahon and colmcille. some of the worst conditions i ever remember for a final last sunday, drumlish and mullinlaghta really blew it. Its not over until the final whistle. How do you think leinster will go for the teams? I think first round exits are likely as these are teams that have bridged gaps happy to win the county

So Leinster Championship 2023 is home to Offaly in Round 1 (yawn!), with the winner away to Meath in the Quarter (revenge?) and winner meeting Westmeath/Louth in the Semi before being fed into the wood chopper like that scene in Fargo in the Leinster Final. What do we all think, or is the prospect of another provincial borefest just too much to handle in the darker months? If only we were west of the Shannon, might have Sam Maguire games next year to look forward to. Perhaps it's time for LEXIT?

Think there is a home and away agreement in place with Meath .

I am only interested in how we progress in the Tailteann Cup and how our minors and U20s do.

Bad weekend for all our clubs in Leinster. Colmcille had a great chance of winning considering Ardee were missing 2 of their County players. The Intermediate just shows how badly organised our championships are. Ballymahon are a mid Intermediate team and were out of their depth on Saturday.

I see the Under 21 championship is well underway. Looking like it's Carrick Sarsfields for the B.

I thought Slashers might have been favourites for the A considering they won the Minor Under 18 in 2019, but they got a bad beating at the weekend by Clonguish. It's probably Wolfe Tones/Clonbroney favourites now with Clonguish and Killoe in the hunt as well.
I am assuming it's the top 2 in each group that goes through?

It is great to see that it has gone back to U21, hopefully it stays that way. Mostrim/Clonbroney would not be favourites at all, Killoe would still be favourites (Clonguish lucky to beat them) with Clonguish next then maybe Mostrim/Clonbroney and Slashers.
I think Leinster went as expected for all teams, it is very difficult for teams who have bridged a long gap within the county to refocus and get a good run in Leinster unless they are exceptional.

Well Mostrim/Clonbroney won the Minor in 2018 so they would have a strong team and a year more advanced than Clonguish who have won the last 2 and that was at Under 17 level. Its a sight to think a town the size of Edgeworthstown and Ballymahon would have to amalgamate at this level with Ballinalee and Kenagh. Killoe will be there or thereabouts....but its hard to know the way results have gone. They lost by 2 to Clonguish and drew to Slashers who then went on to be beaten by 16 points by Clonguish.

There are 3 notable exceptions to that long gap rule where clubs bridged a long gap and had a good run in Leinster the same year. Clonguish bridged a 22 year gap in 2003, Killoe bridged a 17 year gap in 2012, and Mullinalaghta bridged a 66 year gap in 2016 - each then played 3 games in Leinster & reached the semi-final. But for the majority of the time, what you say is correct.

Good to see Under 21 back at its original grade. Clonguish must surely be favourites. Beat Killoe by 2 in a close game and then beat Slashers out the gate by 16 points (Killoe drew with Slashers!). I'd put Clonguish above Clonbroney/Wolfe Tones as favourites, and Killoe after that. A few wild results including Clonbroney/Wolfe Tones beating Granard by 20 points and Ardagh Moydow beating Fr. Manning Gaels in the 'B' by 25!!

Very proud of that Clonguish performance today against a quality Ringtown team. The lads have distinguished themselves so well and did so in 2019 as well.

Could Abbeylara & Mullinalaghta combined not rustle up 15 to play Clonguish in the U21 Championship? God be with the days when all rounds of a competition were played, regardless of whether a result mattered or not.

@LiosBreac.....I didn't want to hog a national post with a Longford question. Going back to that county stats website, you said Killoe were credited with the first 4 in a row? Where is that? When I looked Clonguish were the only ones down to doing 4 in a row.

I can't remember the section but it also claims the first ever 3 in a row for the home club. I'm sure our Granard friends would have something to say about that!
