Is there relegation this year in the championship
B&G (Longford) - Posts: 377 - 24/05/2025 20:44:20 2612177 Link 0 |
2 go down, 1 comes up and SFC reduces from 12 to 11 next year. The plan is to have 10 in senior, 8 in intermediate and 6 in junior (3 Junior clubs, 3 second teams) by the end of 2026. That's the theory, in practice it will probably depend on who gets relegated or fails to get promoted and what short-term interest they start lobbying for next Spring.

Probably not sure there hasn't been proper relegation for a long time. Might as well have a 20 team senior championship

My guess is that we will have a 12 team championship next year. If Fr. Manning Gaels surprise us and stay clear of the 2 relegation spots, then we will have 13 teams playing Senior football next year. Bookmark this now!!!

What time is the draw? I assume it's on Shannonside? Rockshorecider (Longford) - Posts: 64 - 26/05/2025 10:35:43 2612650 Link 0 |
A 12 team round robin of two groups with 5 games to determine the quarter finalists. The bottom 2 in each group then go into a round robin group of 4 with the bottom 2 in that being relegated. Only in Longford!!! Mostrim and Fr Manning Gaels also handily kept apart to avoid one group being over before it starts Clonbonnyrabbitt (Longford) - Posts: 62 - 27/05/2025 13:10:47 2613033 Link 0 |
What are the groups

Well done to the County Minors on a great win on Saturday. Never a bad day when you win an all ireland title of any stripe. Management and players deserve great credit. LongfordgaaAbú (Longford) - Posts: 620 - 02/06/2025 14:10:14 2614313 Link 1 |
At least we finally got a win. Outstanding performance from Matthew. When he is on his day he is as accurate as anyone. I would like Solan to stay on and keep this rebuild going. All the best to Paddy Collum on his retirement. 130 appearances he does not owe the county a thing. That is the last of that 2010 Leinster group. With the demands of the modern era it will be unlikely we will see too many more players playing for as long liosbreac6265 (Longford) - Posts: 260 - 03/06/2025 09:53:22 2614484 Link 1 |
Hopefully solan stays on but the worry is that mayo will be looking for a new manager and he will be well regarded for it. Rockshorecider (Longford) - Posts: 64 - 03/06/2025 21:03:03 2614674 Link 0 |
With all due respect to Solan who I think is doing a decent job i don't think Mayo are going to be looking at a manager who won three games all year with Longford.

I must say, this has aged like a fine wine. Grattans still flying, though will probably lose on promotion in the end, but still a serious season for them. Meanwhile in Division 1... what's this I see??? Clonguish winning the title with two games left to play!!! I'll be back in a few weeks to update this again once they win the Leader Cup. This is fun. They are starting to falter though! Mullinalaghta beat them tonight and were missing Paddy Fox and Donie McElligott. Spinx (Longford) - Posts: 1360 - 07/06/2025 21:55:56 2615634 Link 0 |
This is so transparent. If we do go on and win you have "I told you so" written in drafts. If we don't you have "overhyped Clonguish crumble" when the only one who has hyped the team is you. You should put one of your stats tables together on the number of times this formula has been done over the years!! liosbreac6265 (Longford) - Posts: 260 - 07/06/2025 23:51:16 2615662 Link 0 |
Mullineacht will be one of the closest teams to winning the championship if they don't win it this year. So many excellent footballers on display and great kickers of the ball they had too much physicality for Clongusish last night again,

Are you telling me Clonguish were at full strength? They were missing at least 14 players from what I was told!! 11 of them would be considered starters.

That's not what I heard. They were as close to full strength for this season as they will be. Conor Smith is injured and out for the year, so he won't be back for them. Spinx (Longford) - Posts: 1360 - 09/06/2025 12:08:22 2616061 Link 0 |
