Finbar Egan is an interesting one. I had never heard of him been involved before. He had a good managerial record prior to and subsequent to managing the minors.

He was in contention for the Westmeath job in 2012.

As per the Westmeath Examiner:
"Finbar Egan, meanwhile, is credited with masterminding a revolution at Maryland in recent years, steering them to an intermediate championship win in Westmeath (2008), a senior 'B' and U21 title, and maintaining their strong senior championship presence.The former Athlone boss also guided Mayo's ladies to All-Ireland glory during the 1990s."

There is only one weekend free between now and the league final and that is the weekend of 5th March. I'd imagine there is no choice but play the unplayed games that weekend.

It'll mean 5 weeks in a row for Longford but 6 weeks in a row for any team that will make the league final. Westmeath are in line to make league final. It'll be interesting to see if it turns out to be a positive or negative for Longford in the long run as we have Westmeath in the first round of championship. It's likely they will be more determined to have been promoted before the last round of games to allow them rest players in the last round of league.

Big game this weekend. On current form, if there is a loser then that team is going to be relegated. Longford might have a bit more room to breath with Wicklow at home still to come but the nature of the league is that it can throw up surprising results particularly in the last couple of games.

Bitterly disappointing today. Never a red card for Quinn. Needed to win dat. Almost impossible task to avoid relegation. No choice but to regroup and rebuild and get on with it, but still... felt like two defeats in one today.

think that is us done for now barring a miracle. quinn going was a big turning point, dont think he should of went but if you lift the arm you give the ref the opportunity to put you off. not helped by fermanagh antics. better more clinical team overall won so cant have any complaints

You could debate the red card but you certainly can't argue about the fact they came out in second half and looked even more disorganised than usual. If you are going to have a man sent off then just before half time so that you have time to sort it out is a good time for it to happen. They must have spent the 10-15 minutes talking about the red card rather than how they were going to set up because at the start of the second half we were all over the place.

The league can throw up unpredictable results but the way this Longford team is going they'll do well to beat Wicklow never mind any other team.

I must read that interview again about concentrating on the league, I must have misread it!!!!

Interesting to see the information on Longford senior, under 21 managers. It fills in a lot of the gaps here.

The late Peter Crossan is referenced as been the trainer of the Longford under 21s in 1980 in Longford GAA centenary book, if you want to add him to your list.

What's going on?
It's the weakest division 3 in about 6 years and longford are rooted bottom with Wicklow. Yes missing 3/4 starters on last year but the division is so weak when you consider Limerick are top after 4 games. Did question the appointment at the time along with the trainer/S&C coach who all have little to no experience and it shows. Looked clueless, unfit and all over the place.
It's a pity if longford go down

The sending-off was a game changer. I thought the referee made a hames of it because he had blown for a mark for Quinn & as he attempted to take the mark the Fermanagh player kept tackling him. In fairness, only for Gallagher we'd have been beat out the gate.

is quinn gone for one or two games or might their be an appeal?? i think well be beaten anyway by westmeath so its focus now on antrim and wicklow. win those two and we really should be safe, unlikely other results could go against us on 5 points and put us down? it will be a massive ask to win those two and being honest i cant see us getting 4 points from them. i noticed robbie smith no longer on the programmes is he injured or no longer on the panel

Looking at that excellent new stats site (well done to those involved, fierce effort gone in i'd say, it is a credit!), we hung on in Division 3 in 2017 with just 2 wins and a draw, so it is possible. We should get a result against Wicklow, and will have to raise our game a mighty amount in one of the other games and hope results elsewhere don't trip us up. Not a lost cause, but a tough few weeks ahead. We will learn plenty about what sort of motivational skills the new manager has, in the next few games.
