Slashers were missing 8 I'm led to believe and Rathcline missing 2/3. The league seems like a joke with some rounds without county players. Leitrim have a good system I think

Slashers missing players has nothing to do with the system as they have no county players

Longford's last senior game was 2 weekends ago, and Longford's last minor game was last weekend. Next outing in Tailteann cup and Leinster minor is not for another 3 weeks. Shouldn't be anyone missing for ACFL games this weekend or for next few weekends unless they are resting an injury or dual players with county hurlers. If we can't read too much into the league at this stage, when can we? Bear in mind that by the time the three group games in Tailteann Cup are finished, we will be at the penultimate round (Round 8) of the league! Teams shouldn't have to play a league without county players when you could be missing 8 players between senior and u20 like Killoe.

You don't need to convince me, we are well down because of it. I just don't understand the crying on Slashers behalf, this should be to their advantage. I don't know why we changed from the system of the last few years I thought most agreed it worked well. It's good that you are so concerned for Longford though

You can start reading into it when teams can pick from their full compliment of players and not be missing lads who are with the county. Injuries cannot be prevented but when lads cant play because they are with the county is another thing. We have 6 lads missing because they are with the Longford under 20's who have been out 3 weeks running, one week break this week and back out again next week. We've been missing about 16 senior players because of county, injuries and other reasons.

You can read very little into league form at the minute. Gorified challenge matches with so many teams missing so many players for various reasons at this stage of the year. Slashers would hockey Rathcline in a championship q-final like they always do so would read nothing into that result. Killoe are the favourites again followed closely by Clonguish. Dromard, Colmcille and maybe Abbey the next best. I think Mullinalaghta are prob gone. Down a lot of players who i don't think will be back and nothing coming through. maximus02 (Longford) - Posts: 211 - 19/04/2024 09:20:04 2538959 Link 0 |
By that definition I can only start reading into it when the Tailteann Cup is over for Longford. So if we don't make it out of the group in TC, I can only start reading into it from the last 2 rounds of ACFL, and if we make it into the prelim QF I can only start reading into it from the last round? Given that senior grade players are idle re: county from two weeks ago until three weeks from now (5 weeks-ish), why is ACFL this weekend any different from any league weekend in the decades before it when there might have been underage county games going on? It's no different....but at the end of the day you only pay heed to it when we are in the last few rounds of the league as that is when most of the contenders for the Connolly Cup will be close to being at full strength!!! From my own clubs perspective we have a second sting team playing in the league so far bar maybe 3 or 4 players. We have 6 in with the under 20's, one with Roscommon and a few lads out injured or travelling at the minute. Come the business end of the league we should have 15 or 16 lads to add to the senior panel, of which 10 or 12 could be starting. Also, there is no Division 1 or 2 this weekend, so that shouldn't bother the county players!!! Frank74 (Longford) - Posts: 200 - 19/04/2024 12:01:30 2539004 Link 0 |
2 weeks on from last senior county game, and three weeks out from the next one, and no senior league this weekend after just 3 rounds played? Is that weather driven, because it's hard to make sense of it otherwise.

There is sense. Reserve league starts this weekend, those players deserve to get their year up and running as well

Killoe and Legan look to be the strongest sides in that reserve division. I believe that is Legan's first team.

That's Legans first team - See link. Killoe and Clonguish with big wins at the weekend but only 1 round played, so bit early to say. LongfordgaaAbú (Longford) - Posts: 583 - 22/04/2024 12:34:43 2539834 Link 0 |
If there was a full "suite" at the weekend and then again next weekend that would mean many players with 4 games in the space of 7/8 days and clubs would rightly be annoyed at player welfare. Whatever about a full "suite" on a given weekend, to do it two weekends in a row would be madness

Killoe third team against Legan first team I believe? Killoe beat them easily which isn't good for the only soul club in division 3? It will be killoes division 2 team in the junior championship along with anyone good enough from the division 3 side? williesboy (Leitrim) - Posts: 441 - 22/04/2024 14:15:32 2539872 Link 0 |
Not really. The majority of that division 2 side wont be eligible. The junior championship is extremely stacked towards the sole junior clubs winning. Killoe are the only second team able to compete.

What's the story with the influx of hurlers from other counties starting today? williesboy (Leitrim) - Posts: 441 - 27/04/2024 10:50:10 2540857 Link 0 |
There's even lads starting on the team from hurling clubs that do not exist!!! There must be 2 different admins alternating who puts the line ups up. One week it's right, with Wolfe Tones, Longford Slashers and Clonguish Gaels as been the hurling clubs these lads hurl with. This week the new hurling clubs in the county are Young Grattans, Sean Connollys, Killashee, Killoe and Carrickedmond. We all hoped at some stage that the underage work been put in with Kenagh, Rathcline and Dromard would bear fruit in a few years and that we might get an expanded senior championship. But those 5 clubs have put the 3 'newer' under age clubs to shame by going straight in at senior. Great to see we will have 8 senior clubs competing in Longford this year.....hopefully the CB will run a league as well as a championship!!!!

A look ahead at ACFL activity for weekends from now until start of July, with Tailteann Cup games marked TC. Next weekend is probably the last round involving county players until TC is over. There's 8-9 days rest from those games on 3rd until TC opener on 11/12th. County lads probably won't be back in ACFL until the final round of Division 1 on 14th June (might be back for round 8 if we don't get out of the group).
