Replying To leitrimabu1:  "Most Leitrim GAA people wish the hurlers well but with only 2 clubs & a small population make it challenging to compete even in Div 3b.They are not doing well in the League so far but could get their first win this weekend. Could have beaten Longford but squandered scoring chances while Sligo with 5 clubs including top rated Easkey proved too strong. However a win will put them back in contention. They need the League to prep for the Lory Meagher.Very committed group & you are right they deserve encouragement."
Ignore him, he doesn't mean a word of it. Demeaning them by calling them 'little hurlers' shows his intent and deserves our contempt

I understand Dublin club football is a higher standard then Leitrim. But how much of an impact is a player going to make for us when he doesn't even play for his club. I wouldn't get too excited yet.

Plenty of our own club footballers have joined up with Dublin clubs, started and made an impact.

Replying To foreveryoung:  "Thank you, leitrimabu1. It is good to get a balanced, objective perspective on here without me being accused that I'm from Roscommon. I'm American, follow Limerick in hurling (heritage), and Dublin in football (the 70's and Heffo).

I always like to see Leitrim doing well in football too, as I do with Roscommon. And Mayo and Sligo. Sometimes Galway. I'm certainly not anti-Connaught.

It does give me a kick though, at the number of posters on here who think that I'm a Rossie. LOL!

Leitrim abu as you're name says!"
Why did you call the Leitrim team 'little hurlers' then?

I was going to say this is as well. Great if we can get lads in from stronger counties but if they've not starters with their club it's unlikely they'll make an impact and stick around at county level, had heard a few names bandied around on here as the next Declan Darcy and they barely featured, next I heard they're not involved anymore. Chasing after outsiders and putting them on pedestals is a bad use of our time and resources IMO, unless they're consistent and committed, stick with lads born and bred here

Anyone know if the master fixtures table is out yet?

Not yet. They're still deciding whether to release it late or very late. Sure if they released it early, lads might start booking holidays or weddings, and we can't be having that kind of organisation. It'll be out soon right after you've booked something you can't cancel.

You hardly expect Leitrim GAA to respect club players and let them plan their lives. Let's keep it realistic.

We have tried this a few times over the last number of years. It turned out that who we got with maybe one or two exceptions were no better or worse than what we already had. Certainly very few, if any, game changers. I see one young chap from a Dublin club on our u17 panel. Will be interesting to see where his playing career plays out

Players would be sillier to cancel anything they've booked that is important in place of a hobby in fairness if a fixture list can't be got out in time
