This current system in the senior championship is one of the worst I've even seen. We need a standardized cup championship across every county. I'm old fashioned I loved knock out with a back door it would sort out a lot of the issues in relation to burnout, fixtures congestion etc. Championship football should be championship. The league is the league.

Congrats to our ladies. An impressive and humble bunch so it wasn't a surprise that they played the game and not the occasion. They've had plenty of genuine reasons to come up with excuses over the last few years but not a peep out of them. Brilliant role models to us all.

Replying To Inatfullforward:  "Leitrim should be immensely proud of the Leitrim ladies team today. Most sparsley populated county and to win intermediate is just an incredible achievement . The way they played brilliant open entertaining football and fought for each other was a sight to behold. The men's game needs to take stock of this. Today's games were 10 times better than the stifled negative handball that took centre stage last Sunday. Leitrim Abu!!"
They're a Croke Park team which their male counterparts aren't. Terrific battling qualities after a ropey enough start with everything left on the pitch. A exhibition of score-taking under intense pressure. Fair play ladies!!!!

Agreed. They showed tremendous heart and resilience to see it out. The men would have lost that game, folded under the pressure.

Podgy is from my club and I know him fairly well. When I said he won't be going back into county management, I meant within the next couple of years. He runs his own business and has a young family.

Well done leitrim played the best football for twenty minutes in the second half that i have ever seen by any ladies football team at any grade in croke park. Everyone of their players could win their own ball and take their score great to see.

Replying To eslinchickenmaryland:  "Is that a new age grade competition. U25s? I believe it was a South Kerry selection, not the whole county"
Typo should be U16 team who beat a Kerry regional selection. Next is Galway West in Final. U15 team lost to Fermanagh in Humphrey Kellihgher Cup also on Saturday. Despite a regional Kerry team has to be a positive for Leitrim underage playing at a higher level.

Mickey Graham appointed Leitrim senior manager, the most obvious and straightforward appointment to make for the Leitrim county board.

Replying To JimmyNail:  "Was at the game in Gortletteragh yesterday evening , looked like Manor were in control all through with Evan Sweeney (especially first half) on fire. Fair play to Gortletteragh battled hard and finished much the stronger to get a draw and could have won it if they hadn't missed a second half penalty. Thought some of Gortlettraghs younger players like Oisin Niblock the two Cunninghams and Brendan Naughton (after a tough first half on Sweeney) were outstanding. Granted Manor were missing Barry McNulty but Gortletteragh were down at least six of last years team so it's a very credible result for them. Mohill away next week will be a massive test though. Manor have Leitrim Gaels at home next and will need to take the pressure off Evan Sweeney if they are going to make the knock outs."
Evan Sweeney was on fire in the first half he's an exceptional footballer. But Gortletteragh got tighter to him in the second half. We left at least 2-4 behind us with a missed goal chance in the first half and the penalty miss. We won't be able to get away with that next Friday.

We've an extremely young team with two 17 year olds subbed on in the last few minutes. One David Liu Doyle got a crucial interception in the middle and Noah McNulty got the equalizer. As you said from last years team we have lost many starters (7 in fact) in David Mulvey, Niall Woods, Flynn, Heslin, Colm Duffy, James Campbell and Keoghan McGovern. I don't imagine there are too many clubs with that turn over of players.

It will be a very tough challenge on Friday for this young group but it is one I know they won't shy away from.

great to see Graham appointed, he'll have his work cut out keeping them up in Div 3 but obviously he's up for the challenge. best of luck to him and his management team.

Great for leitrim to confirm Mickey graham.

I had hoped Longford would throw everything they had into getting him but alas not to be.

True. They showed us how the game can be played. Congrats, Leitrim ladies. Tremendous football to watch when in full flow.

Looking forward to watching Leitrim under Mickey Graham. The obvious candidate, he has great experience and a fantastic CV, a Leinster club with Mullinalaghta and an Ulster championship with Cavan really is remarkable, he obviously can get underdogs believing in themselves which is crucial in a County like Leitrim.

Hopefully Barry McWeeney stays on board and he adds a top class coach. Mickey's league record with Cavan was very up and down but if he kept us up in Div 3 next year I'd class that as an excellent year.

Hopefully he has a full complement of players and he can unearth a few more in the club championships.

We should explore the parentage rule again to add a bit more quality to the panel also. Leitrim abù.

I was delighted Ito see Leitrim win the ladies Intermediate championship on Sunday, and I wondered if their most famous hurler was there. I remember reading his book and was impressed by his wonderful portrayal of Leitrim and its people and could we hope to see one of their men climb these famous steps and in the not too distant future to accept the Tailteann Cup.I think they don't have the population base to attain the Sam Maguire. Is it reasonable to expect or am I setting the bar a little low?
