Replying To Backheel:  "Sligo or enniskillen would be fine if it's not going to held in Leitrim. But it's has always been the same. A very loyal fan base from north of the county traveling to Longford three matches in a row. Despit the fact that everyone south of the Shannon refuse to acknowledge this. All intercounty fixtures and training at all levels are based at the convince of southern based clubs. This is especially frustrating at underage. With parents being dragged up the county several times a week. This is par for the course and has been like this always in Leitrim gaa."
How has it always been the same when this issue has just arisen this year? That makes no sense. There is a need of a second ground in the county capable of hosting county games, which includes the facilities for parking etc. Perhaps some club chairman up your end can take the initiative and have a ground capable of doing so because there obviously isn't one down this end. Then we'd see what attendances are like. Bulk of the population of Leitrim is within a 45 min drive of Longford. It makes perfect sense to have it a home designated pitch for us.

Some interesting club results last weekend. Mary's looked very impressive against a strong Mohill team. With Keith Beirne and Jordan Reynolds departing, could Mohill be vulnerable in the Championship.
Are Mohill on the slide?? Can anyone match Mary's??
Manor in Div 2 are flying. They could be dark horses this year?
Drumkeeran's 20pt hammering of Annaduff was a shock.
Aughawillian and Leitrim Gaels scraped a win and should survive in Div 1.

What are the solutions?

1 Develop the Glencar Manor grounds

2 Develop the under utilised ground in Glencar as a centre of excellence for underage development in North Leitrim"
South Leitrim, definitely seems to have an edge on facilities. Annaduff was a strange location for the Centre of Excellence. I seriously think a deal should have been done with Longford GAA to share it?
It's too late now though.
I think Connacht GAA may have been involved in its location, design and construction.
Anyway, Pairc Sean will be back next year.

I believe Osnetts ground is being mooted as a possible purchase for the county board meaning that underage training could alternate between north and south. This would be a big step. But I don't understand why the need to purchase a new ground to start this practice.

Not having A bus service to bring underage players to intercounty training is crazy. I was speaking to the parent of an intercounty underage player recently and they are at their wits end with travel.

I know years ago transport to training was provided to all intercounty panelist's. I not sure why this practice stopped.

I recall that. My guess would be insurance and costs.

Well the game is fixed for Longford and that won't change now so we all must row in behind Coach Moran and Coach Graham and give the team our best. North men South men comrades all and so forth

What a weird post. Annaduff is about as central as you'd get for a Leitrim centre of excellence & along the only decent national primary road running through the county. It's not a strange location, it's the best location. And why would any county ever consider sharing a centre of excellence with another county? You think Longford (or any county for that matter) would be happy having a centre of excellence in another county? Honest to god...

Ah now. It only central to mabe St Mary's and bornacoola and been so close to a national primary road has been it's biggest down fall so far and for them reasons alone it definitely was a strange location. It's best benefit is that it probably suits any county players coming from Dublin for training

The centre of excellence should have been in Eslin imo. Best land in the county and best access for everyone

It can't be central to everyone... it's as central as you can get bar it being in Carrick On-Shannon. The reality is that most of our lads are either working in Dublin or collages around the country like Galway / Dublin / Limerick. It needed to be easy to get to, not in the back end of nowhere. The land in Annaduff was obtained cheap enough compared to what you might get around Carrick and would be decent enough land compared to other parts of Leitrim. And yes it is close to the N4 but the centre of excellence was never intended to host matches so it's not a consideration. We don't have the resources to do a centre of excellence 'right' like Tyrone... which I would say to be 4+ pitches (4G possibly), a stand and other buildings / facilities etc. Maybe in time more pitches maybe added but what we have is more than sufficent for our needs & resources.

If you are coming from Kinlough or even manor Dromahaire or Glenfarne it's not even close to central. It's not even about the location of the Coe it the consistent ignoring of the extra travel people from the north of the county make. Your attitude is typical. It's near enough. My point is that supporters and players from the county are never considered when decisions at county board or board na og are being made.

I think his point was it l is mostly used by county teams, and we have a lot of each panel based in other counties, bar underage of course. Is there really no transportation organised for underage games and training anymore? If not that's a joke. I am guessing it stopped during COVID and never returned, due to reasons I mentioned above.
I think in my day underage training was in different parts of the county so you weren't going to the same spot every week at least.
I see Foley stepped down from the minors last weekend, seems an alright sort, all the best to him. Make some good points about s&c still being behind other counties despite the fact we have known for years this needs to improve, and also that a few very able lads opted for rugby instead, now that's a new one! But I believe it, CoS RFC going very well at the minute and if you've a chance of making a living in rugby there's no reason atm to choose football for Leitrim instead

The reality is that the vast majority of clubs are based in the south of the county and within a 30 - 40 minute trip from Annaduff (the map of where clubs are located does not lie... even somewhere like Ballinaglera or Drumkeeran is within easy ready of Annaduff and is not much further than the time taken to go from Aughawillan / Carrigallen). Not even withstanding that, having a COE in somewhere like Drumshanbo ain't going to improve matters significantly for a club like Melvin Gaels. Somewhere like Manorhamilton should be able to have a pitch of county standard and perhaps some chairperson should take that on as a project for North Leitrim. You can argue all you like but the COE caters for the majority and is as central as it can be.

There's 17 clubs in South Leitrim, 6 in North Leitrim. It would seem ludicrous to bring players from 17 clubs to Manorhamilton for example. Maybe at a stretch Drumkeeran might have been a compromise but that is a long 2.5 hour trip for Dublin based players as opposed to 1h 50 to Annaduff.
There should be a county standard ground in Manorhamilton capable of holding 5-6000 for a game maybe. But that requires a good bit of money.
