Conor Payne perhaps also, huge work rate and team player, an option for the sweeper role.

The U20s are currently in the U20 championship action and at this early stage it's looking like a Clann v Brigids Div 1 final. Clann with comfortable wins over Roscommon Gaels, Oran and Brigids easing past Pearses with Ben O'Carroll in superb form.

You would have to be happy with them fixtures. Think this year's division 2 is the strongest in years. Anyone could get promoted or relegated. It's tough to call

Going to be a very competitive divsion and the added spice of two relegated teams having to play in the B All-Ireland if they don't reach the provincial final this summer.

Galway will be favourites to win Div 2,Cork have upgraded their manager, Derry remind me of Armagh with their improvement and if not this year will eventually return to Div 1. Meath will be there or thereabouts for promotion. Offaly will be well fired up to take on us especially with our old manager in charge. Down look like the odd one out, still seeking a manager but we are unlikely to get anything easy in Newry.

Big weekend for Roscommon clubs in Connacht this weekend.

First up
Atheague vs Toreen 1:30 in the hyde Saturday
Seems like months ago since they won the final hopefully they have been able to keep training and can get over Toreen. Need huge games from Aengus lyons and Ben Mcgahon for them to be in with a chance, I dont think the hyde will suit them athleague as they are an aging team and they are probably better suited to the tight confines of Athleague.

St Patricks vs St Josephs 1:30 In Markeivicz Park Saturday
This is a tough task for St Josephs as St Patricks won sligo with little fuss and beat the Leitrim representative by 8 points. Josephs will be looking for damage limitation unfortunately but they are definitely a better team then what they showed aginst pearses. There keeper was missing on the day and the replacement was not a keeper thats where they were beaten. Josephs needs massive games from the hurler Mickey Egan, Brian Dolan and Captain Johnny Mannion anchoring the defence. I really hope they can give a good account of themselves.

The Big One
Pearses vs Mountbellew-Moylough
I think this could be an absolutely cracker Perses seem to be over their Covid issues and have a full hand to pick from.
The dalys will again be vital to our chances with paul carey and hubert the scorers in chief. Pearses big mission is to stall the Mountbellew midfield and forward line - Micheal Daly the midfielder, Barry Mchugh and the full forward cant remember his name will take huge stopping. Looking forward to it i think pearses can do the business

Pearses v Mountbellew off, looks like covid issue. Plenty of time to reschedule it with the final not on until January.

Best of luck to St Josephs and Athleague this weekend.

Pearses game being off saves me doing one of the previews from my own perspective!

Atheague vs Toreen 1:30 in the Hyde Saturday
As mentioned above me, the Hyde probably won't suit Athleague and I believe there's at least one player suspended from when Athleague were last in the provincial championship. From what I've heard numbers at training haven't been great and they went down to Tipperary for a challenge and got annihilated. What possessed them to do that I do not know. I hope Athleague prove me wrong but I can only see a Toreen win.

St Patricks vs St Josephs 1:30 In Markeivicz Park Saturday
St Patricks have steamrolled their last two games to get this far but I think neither of their previous oppositions were very good either. Both teams defensively were poor and gave way too much space to 13 & 14 who scored freely. St Patricks seem to like a kicking game and the Joes defensively haven't been too bad this year bar the SF against Pearses. I think the Joes are missing a few key players through injury though so it will be hard to get a good 15 out for the management who are dealing with such a small squad to begin with. If the Joes can keep their shape in the back and give good quality ball to the likes of Dolan and Mark Gilleran they will have a chance, but if they make too many mistakes and rush the ball too quickly they could be in for a long day. Patricks by 2

Best of luck to them and hope they win it but 6 weeks between county final and this game is an up hill task for them and really is not fair on them.its a joke Luckily county board had common sense push county final back a week after provincial draw was made or it could have been 7.Yes they got a bye that can be beneficial at times but lack of games could hinder Pearses. MM meanwhile have had two competitive games In this period and will be fresher. Some may see it as a benefit to pearses but from my own experience playing, the best way to hit form was through playing games. Always found it harder produce my best(wasn't much) coming in cold after long delay between games. Anyway covid is rampant and rightly its postponed but feel Pearses are been hit harder with the postponement. Still more than good enough to win.

Similar beating for St Josephs as they received in the county semi final v Pearses. Never easy trying to play in Connacht championship when not even reaching a county final.

I attended the Connacht hurling quarter final. Toreen had that contest won well before half time some scoring by them at the end of November Athleague couldn't handle the movement and skill of the Boland brothers.

In other news away to Sligo in the semi final for Roscommon seniors in the Connacht draw. Last night we played them there) 2015) we lost

Good draw for Roscommon. Let's hope we can take advantage of it.

don't think its an advantage to Roscommon, winners of Galway/Mayo will have the advantage after playing better opposition, we need to be playing against teams of top quality to develop and progress

Roscommon has Div 2 which includes Galway to develop and progress.

Of course it's an advantage .Easier to win a Connacht title only having to beat one of Galway or Mayo rather than having to beat both of them. It's always what I look for when the Connacht championship draw is made.

Was rumoured for a while and now it's confirmed Cathal Cregg has retired. Made his debut in 2006 and in that time took only one year out. Some service to his county, best of luck Cathal.

Shane Killoran and Gary Patterson as already known are not part of the panel for the year ahead due to travelling. Sean Mullooly also because of injury. Tadgh O'Rourke due to work commitments will not be available for the first part of the season.

Who is the better opposition that the Winners of Galway/Mayo will play?

Cregg was a great servant for Roscommon, will be missed. Mullooly leaves a void in the full back line, will be an opportunity for others to step up
