Replying To eoinog:  "Call a spade a spade. Roscommon were easily beaten by Galway. They then lost to Clare who got walloped by Derry who were then easily beaten by Galway on Sat. Anyone who comes on and says it could be Roscommon in a final is being silly. I'm not having a go at Roscommon football but if posters can somehow see they could be preparing for an All Ireland final they need a dose of reality"
Lets call a spade a spade, your modis operandi when posting on the Roscommon forum is always to have a go so save us the hand wringing.

O I have really ruffled feathers, I hope you read the previous post from Sindar, one from your own county. He is 100 % correct. My sins so far on this forum is that I said your game against Clare was going to be 50/50 and I would not be surprised if Clare won. Was that having a go at you??
I defended your Manager when most here wanted a public execution of him in the square in Roscommon town. Is that having a go at you? I nearly choked on my cornflakes then when some of you actually really thought you could be in an All Ireland. I won't tell you what your true position in the football rankings is. The previous poster did that.

Paddy was excellent fair play to him.

Sean O Shea every right to go for the ball and it was a definite penalty

Not a great start to Athleagues title defense, they seem to be shipping huge scores. When is the football championship starting?

Replying To Cbar:  "I have no delusions about the quality of Ross football - why would I? But these are the facts:

- Should have beaten Clare - only themselves to blame
- Finished ahead of Derry in League - is it really inconceivable that they would not beat them in a Q final? I don't see why not. Derry were shown up to be really poor by Galway
- Play Galway for 4th time this year. No fear going into the game and very little to lose.

It's all academic now anyway so no point arguing over what ifs and maybe I'm overstating Ross football but I think it was well within their scope."
We don't have the right mentality to get to the top unfortunately. If our management don't bring in a proper coach like Galway did this year then we will be hammered right back down to division 2 next year. If we had beaten Clare I don't think we would have got anywhere near Derry. We just don't have them proper defenders at the moment. Also we disappear out of games for long periods and against top teams they will finish you off when that happens. We need big changes next year simple as that.

From what I have heard players want Cunningham to stay on so looks like he's going nowhere. If he has the backing of the players then I'm happy enough with that. Hopefully if he's staying he looks into getting a top defensive coach in next year and maybe adds a couple of new young defenders into team

Does that mean the players as a whole are happy with their performances as a whole in the Championship ?
Are they happy with losing to Clare?
A mainly very experienced team collapsing when the game looked won?

Was the problem manager/ment or players?

I would hope not and I hope they can use that disappointment to drive them on next year. In fairness you never hear of too much about players unhappy behind the scenes unlike previous regimes.

It's the supporters that are unhappy. Why would we not be. One championship win in three years and that against a 14 man Division 4 team. A Croke Park collapse against a poor Clare team. Time for a change. The Tipp County Board have been classless sacking Bonnar after one Season but it shows how serious some counties are about success. I do think Anthony Cunningham should have resigned after the Clare game and not left it to the County Board. It would have been the right thing to do.

But look at Joyce at Galway. He was under unbelievable pressure this year and decided he needed to do something and got top coach in. I'd be very worried if we go into division one with same coaching system

Why there delighted to be out by July and off to the club championships in Chicago San Francisco etc.
There more to blame than our management.
And to take a serious look at themselves blaming everyone else.

If Cunningham stays he needs to stop being nice and popular with the players and become a ruthless B to cull those who have lost appetites etc.
Otherwise move on Anthony and thanks for your time and effort.

Would be a collective problem. Poor game management on and off the field to one win that game against Clare.

If Cunningham is kept on it looks like Roscommon are copying the approach that Armagh have done with McGeeney.

Don't know if that is the correct approach either? Sure mcgeeney is there years and still hasn't even won an ulster title. How many more chances are they going to give him?

We can't see what goes on at training but sometimes you do get the impression some players are just guaranteed their spot regardless of performance or form. Sometimes you need a bit of fire under the ****. Saying that, AC doesn't seem like someone that would give players a free pass. There's lads coming through now from the 2017 minor team and last years U20 team that have good potential and management shouldn't be afraid to use them if established players are not performing.

I think it's no harm to have managment continuity for a few years but essential that the coaching set up is revamped or it'll be the same old tune next year. Agreed that management and players need to take responsibility for that poor championship.

I feel Anthony Cunningham should stay on as manager but definitely changes need to be made to the coaching team, especially in defense. We all know that's our Achilles heel this season but yet in seasons gone by we were much better defensively. I feel we have the players to defend but we just need a structure for those players to play to. Surely with all the money Club Rossie has raised that there are resources there to get a high quality defensive coach in? I think Lavin has improved immeasurably this season. Our midfield have improved also and I feel this will only get better as Keith Doyle and Shane Cunnane develop further and competition for starting places get stronger. We all know the ability out forwards have. I think Cunningham has brought us on a lot and will bring us on further again if the right backroom team is there to support him. Getting rid of him now would just set us back further I feel. I really believe we have huge potential and if we get the right balance in place then the future is bright for Ros football.

Very few of that u20 are ready for senior football in my opinion.
