World champion yesterday (well done Lisa O'Rourke) and hopefully the senior footballers are Connacht champions on Sunday week.

Best of luck to the U17s in Hyde Park this evening. A difficult campaign for them but hopefully they have saved their best performance for their final group game.

I read Ciaran Whelans Sam Maguire predictions in the Sunday world
He has 1 Kerry 2 Dublin 3 Mayo 4 Derry 5 Donegal 6 Tyrone
Roscommon and Galway are best of the rest
A dose of reality for sure lol

Second year in a row that our minors have lost to Sligo in Hyde Park. That's a habit we'd need to get out off. I hope that good underage development work is continuing in Roscommon. In truth, we have a mediocre minor team this year albeit that it has a couple of excellent prospects in Rory Carthy and Robert Heneghan. We go into the Connacht shield now against Leitrim.

Not to be for our U17s as they are beaten by 4 points by Sligo, final score line probably harsh on the effort our lads put in but the best team on the night certainly won and go on to play Galway in the semi final.

Key in that match was conceding a goal against the run of play midway through the 1st half and thereafter Sligo kept tagging points on to keep themselves in front.

Great achievement for Lisa O'Rourke. Pity RTE didn't show those fights.

Have the minors failed to win a game in this year's campaign? 3 loses and a draw? Hopefully this is just a blip.

I'd probably agree, it's just hard to gauge Derry. You would see teams in Ulster like Cavan who raise it when playing their neighbours but then fall flat when they get out of their province. Ros are also guilty of that! I could be wrong but I don't think we've seen the last of Monaghan either.

Galway hammered Derry in the League in Derry for what it's worth. We'll know more about Derry after the Ulster Final. We'll know more about Galway and Roscommon after the Connacht Final.!

It's a young team and good few minor again next year. Like you I'd hope we haven't stepped back at underage development and we are still putting everything possible into underage football. We are a small county and can't slip back into our old ways

You gave us a good clipping in the Senior Championship but we have your measure at the younger age groups. Beat you at U.20 and again last night at U.17. You finished the group stages last without a win.

I agree, I'm not convinced of Derry just yet. However, Kerry gave Tyrone a good hiding in the league last year and the tables turned dramatically in the championship.

The U20 game was very tight. Best of luck to Sligo in the minor semi final v Galway. I believe that a lot of our minor team is underage again next year so there's hope in that. I suppose the main purpose of underage football is to bring players through to senior. Sligo have a long way to go at senior to be anyways competitive in Connacht. Roscommon will seek in 8 days time our third senior Connacht title in six years so we're not in a bad place. Back playing division 1 football as well.

Roscommon beat themselves in the U20 game from what i seen. Just 12 scores from over 30 scoring opportunities.

Sligo certainly have the measure of Roscommon at U17 level with a, win last night and in last years final, that should filter through to U20 level if HQ retain that competition which looks unlikely.

Very disappointing display, not up to the pace of the game at all.

Could beat Tyrone by 13 points two weeks ago and lose by 11 points today. That's sport and no two games are the same.

Croke Park factor worth a lot. Tyrone played and lost Rackard final there last year

Majority of Roscommon players never played there

24 points is a huge turnaround in a couple of weeks.

Croke Park factor is really only worth something when a good crowd is in attendance, even with the 6 teams in action yesterday it was just few hundred there.

Tyrone was well beaten by Mayo last year and have made 7 or 8 changes to their starting 15 since then. Our performance simply wasn't good enough, started off slow and never recovered.

Disappointing weekend to be a rossie and hopefully it's not the same in 7 days time.

Our hurlers were blitzed from the start and were like rabbits in headlights for a lot of the first half. Tyrone were a more balanced outfit and deserved their win. For the most part it was poor quality of hurling and was reflected by very poor attendance at the finals.

Our minor footballers brought their campaign to an end in disappointing fashion and Roscommon finish bottom of a 5 team group amd that should be a huge concern and certainly hard questions need to be asked. A previous poster stated sligo have our number at underage ad certainly the case at u17. We have beaten them a u20 two out of past three years but Sligo came from the well behind to beat us at the death in u20 this year also.

For me we have slipped way behind in development and I think the u20 all Ireland appearance covered a lot of cracks given it was a summer competition which suited our footballers and not so much on conditioning. We look very light compared to other teams at underage and the issue of the county gym.meeds to be addressed urgently. The current gym is not big enough to hold a group session.

In addition the S&C trainer is spending all his time with the senior set up apparently and that also needs to be addressed. Questions also need to be asked of the Games Development Officer who seems to have more sidelines than any pitch. The Aamdemy is a total disaster and isn't serving the purpose it was meant too. A new head with a football background is required but obviously that costs money. This current group of senior players have been together a long time and are giving us great days but some of them will be coming to their end in a year or two amd we will be left with huge gaps to fill if we don't up our game off the pitch.
Onto next week and hopefully a clean bill of health. Rumour has it Diarmuid Murtagh played for his club yesterday. I be surprised if that was the case given he will be so crucial next weekend and if he did it would suggest he isn't going to be involved which would be very strange.
