Replying To MachaireConnacht:  "One of the reasons we were so easily opened up against Galway last year was the lack of tracking back by forwards."
The main reason we are competitive this season is that we have midfielders that actually work back. The 2 goals we conceded 1 a 45 that dropped short flicked on & the other a bad pass from Walsh when our keeper was away from home. The midfielders we had last year played well going forward but left our defence wide open. We are in a great position ,and with Kerry not playing well and Donegal in The Hyde I wouldn't be surprised if we get another result.

Good to see a number of senior panelist, extended panelists and county U20s lining out for their clubs in the first round of the league. Cian Connolly, Cian McKeon are moving well after returning from injury.

In Division 1 Boyle fought back to be beat Pearses. Roscommon Gaels with impressive win against Tulsk. Western Gaels won narrowly against Elphin and Faithleachs four points to spare on Fuerty.

In Division 2 Castlerea 10 point winners against Brigids B, Glaveys, Strokestown with straight forward wins both probably too good for Div 2 while Éire Óg won by 1 against Creggs

Surprising to hear of talk of Ultan Harney transferring from Clann Na Ngael to Wolfe Tones in Chicago, he is in Dubai at the moment so wouldn't be resident in Chicago for a moth prior to March 31 to qualify for a transfer and thought it was always his plan to be back playing for Clann at end of summer after his travels which isn't possible if he gets an inter county transfer.

Last I heard Ultan's travel plans was from March to November.

Our county Hurlers have finally kicked into gear with a 20 point win against Armagh this afternoon. That win puts us in with a chance of reaching the league final should we beat Monaghan away next Saturday. Good to see the work has started on replacing the seats in the covered stand in Hyde Park.

Are Croke Park & USGAA for real, granting a transfer to Ultan to a Chicago club when he is in Thailand and not a resident in Chicago for at least 30 days as rules state.

What do we think the starting team will be for Saturday against Kerry?
I think it'll be
1. Conor Carroll
2. Conor Hussey
3. Conor Daly
4. Davy Murray
5. Dylan Ruane
6. Brian Stack
7. Niall Daly
8. Tadgh O'Rourke
9. Keith Doyle or Ruaidhri Fallon
10. Robbie Dolan
11. Enda Smith
12. Ciarán Lennon
13. Ben O'Carroll
14. Diarmuid Murtagh
15. Ciarán Murtagh

Not 100% certain on the forwards. Donie and Cox could be used as impact subs along with Cregg, Walsh and Hughes

A whale of a game coming on Saturday in Tralee. Any chance we can do the unthinkable?

What has it got to do with you?
For a lad seemingly from Louth you seem fairly obsessed with him, You knew all about his transfer before it because official? Stalking out his Instagram is a bit weird.

Didn't Conor Daly injure his ankle against Mayo? Those type of injuries can be very troublesome and take some time to fully recover from.

Conor Daly probably not fit to play.
Why would Fallon get a start with only 10 or 15 not very effective minutes played to date?

Conor Daly will be a big loss as he was probably Roscommon's best player in the league so far. He may have been on David Clifford if he had been fit to play. However it gives another player an opportunity to show what they can do. Maybe the team might take a leaf out of the Andy Farrell playback and perform under difficult circumstances. Kerry and Donegal also have some injured players.
Hopefully Conor will be back for the Mayo match. Best of luck to the team tomorrow.

Narrow defeat after competitive performance. Mixed feelings about it TBH, another slow start 1-3 to no score and looked like we were in for a heavy defeat but fought our way back into and were within a kick of ball to grab a draw. I thought McKeon should have won a penalty with that last attack and number of other strange calls went Kerry's way.

6 games 3 wins and 3 defeats and in those defeats we have showing we are much harder to beat than in past Div 1 campaigns. Hopefully we finish off this good campaign off with a win against Donegal next weekend. Conor Cox,Daire Cregg,Ruane,Hussey was among our best players tonight. Doyle was decent when he came on (should have started iMO)

Agree with a lot of that. Roscommon can only learn from playing the All Ireland champions in Tralee. Another slow start cost us as in the Mayo game. Robbie Dolan off early as in the Mayo game. A fit Cian McKeon is a big plus. He could have won a penalty at the end but Kerry always get the calls from the ref so never going to be given. We have Donegal at home to stay up and just three weeks now to championship action in Castlebar. Hopefully we're on the up. Conor Hussey is impressive driving forward and I thought Dylan Ruane was good last night. What's the story I wonder with Eddie Nolan. We need our best starting 15 on Easter Sunday and we can't afford to be 6 or 7 points down after 10 minutes or we'll be heading out of the Connacht championship.

Don't know if Eddie will make any games in 23?
We need to start hitting the ground running next Sunday and likewise in Castlebar.

550km round trip, nice day out with the family. Came away from the game with mixed feelings. After the first 15mins I thought we were in for a hiding but to be fair the lads found a way back in to the game. The age old problem of a lack of midfield was brutally exposed again, especially in the first half. Kerry sat off and allowed us get a few quick ones away, especially after their first black card. Doesn't matter who is in goals, when a team pushes up for our kickout we are in real bother. Enda was once again a real leader when things were going against us, he carried the fight to Kerry. He was victim of a terrible call for charging and ended up with a yellow card for his frustration. Ciaran Murtagh tried his best but faded after half time. Coz looked like he was getting back to old self at times, looked sharp and took some nice scores. Hopefully we see more of that and it wasn't just the opposition motivating him. Ciaran Lennon tries hard everyday but in front of goal he looks like he has no confidence, different player for his club. Stack done as well as could be expected given the job he had. Great to see Cian McKeon getting minutes.
On a side note, I thought a lot of decisions went against us. Bar the penalty, i will watch it back later, but for their first black card, we had won possession and were on the attack and ref stopped play to issue the card. Surely he should have allowed us play on and deal with it after. We had just gotten momentum at that time and another point would have lifted us further. As I said, Enda needed up with a yellow for reacting to a terrible call against him.
Onto next week and if we show the fight and character we have shown for 50 mins of the last 2 games we will be ok but we need to show it from minute 1. If Donegal lose today they will be a fragile bunch, we can't give them any encouragement and need to put them to the sword early. Up the Ros

Need to sort out the starts to games alright.

7-0 to Mayo and go on to outscore them 2-11 to 1-9 and pushing for a late goal to win

1-3 to no score to Kerry and go on to outscore them 0-12 to 0-9 and pushing for a late goal to draw.

I can't get my head around the brutal starts, which seem to be getting worse or else Mayo and Kerry were more unforgiving than the Ulster teams.

I agree with the above. We got crucified at times in midfield. Not using it as an excuse but some of the refereeing decisions were cat and the Enda Smith yellow was mind boggling. Robbie Dolan is a grafter and has great potential but he just lacks physicality when playing the big teams but I'm sure that will come. Great to see Cian McKeon back.

Aside from the goal we did well defensively and kept battling until the end. If we could just put in a performance from the start we can be very competitive. Kerry got their scores from a good spread of player's, I'd like to see more lads on our side pitching in with scores.

Not sure what the problem is, as we now have a habit of starting very slow and giving the opposition a huge advantage. Is it a mental thing, warm up issues ? It needs to be sorted as soon as possible.
Good to see several of our players back in form, Enda Smith, Conor Cox etc. A fit Cian McKeon will also make a big difference as his runs at defenders with pace and power, similar to Enda and can draw frees and cards.
For the second week running, I feel sorry for our keeper. In the first half Kerry got 7/7 (100%) as we did not contest them while we only retained position 5/14 (36%) which is not acceptable. When our own keeper is kicking out the ball, it should never go below 50% at the very worst, as he is deciding where to kick the ball.
Things improved somewhat in the second half and I feel that we should have pressed their kickout even more when they had a black card.
While the referee got the Enda Smith's free very badly wrong, (no doubt about that) we did score nine points from frees but only 3 points from play. Kerry scored 1-9 from play. This is also an issue as some of our team seem afraid to have a go at the posts at times. At lest the Murtagh's, Smith's, Daly's, Cox, Cregg, O'Carroll, McKeon will normally have a go if they think the shot is on.
There is no doubt that the players are putting in a huge effort, and I would be very hopeful that we can retain our division 1 status. This would be a great achievement as we are missing both our starting mid-fielders from last year.
