Davy Burke confirmed at last. Donegal's Mark McHugh involved too. More to follow. BigSur (Westmeath) - Posts: 1178 - 26/10/2022 20:59:43 2445570 Link 0 |

As expected it's Davy Burke with ex Donegal player Mark McHugh as coach. Seanfanbocht (Roscommon) - Posts: 2056 - 26/10/2022 21:45:22 2445575 Link 0 |
Wonderful news for Galway, Mayo, Sligo and Leitrim. Can't believe Burke got the job. Was nobody else interested?

Very ignorant comment. He is a highly respected coach and manager and his record for such a young man is very impressive. This could turn out to be a very shrewd appointment by Roscommon.

I wish the new manager well. We won't be crossing paths this year.Nice to see a new man getting a shot at a county. Interesting to see if all the people who wanted rid of the last man support this appointment because the C.V of both men are poles apart eoinog (Sligo) - Posts: 2013 - 27/10/2022 11:32:32 2445624 Link 0 |

Calculated risk on Davys behalf. We are expected to go down his name will be made If keeping us up. We are not expected to win Connacht he will be much sought after if achieving that. We are no expected to get out of group stage of all Ireland series it'll be yet again a great achievement of he does and add to his CV. Achieve any of the above 3 his name is made. Achieve all 3 we will be beating off suitors. Achieve none of the 3, well that was what was expected. Win win for him. OhtobeARossie (Roscommon) - Posts: 1777 - 27/10/2022 12:30:44 2445640 Link 0 |
Every manager (and player too) has a life cycle, it doesn't matter what they've achieved in the past. It needed freshening up after poor championship showings. Harte overstayed his welcome in Tyrone and you saw in 2021 what they achieved. Donegal were in a similar position to us last year, Bonner gave it another year and look where that got them. Padraig Joyce hadn't the managerial CV Burke has when he took over Galway and got them to a final this year. It may or may not work out but there was no point in trying the same again.

He makes simliar very ignorant remarks on the Galway thread the type of poster that this forum attracts unfortunately. On CVs Burke is just 34 and Cunningham was 39 before he got into management. Yondu (UK) - Posts: 845 - 27/10/2022 13:31:58 2445656 Link 0 |
Good post and reply. Simliar enough CV to Joyce as you said before taking on Galway seniors and Horan simliar with Mayo when he joined the seniors in 2011. Managers has to start somewhere and in our 30s one is still learning the ropes. For example St Mirren sacked a manager in 1978 saying he lacked managerial ability, some fella called Alex Ferguson Gaa_lover (USA) - Posts: 3526 - 27/10/2022 14:01:05 2445659 Link 0 |

I would like to wish Davy Burke and the rest of his team the best of luck with the Rossies. He record so far in managing several different teams for such a young man is very impressive. It also shows lots of courage on his behalf in taking on the very difficult challenge of managing a division 1 team in a totally new environment. Hopefully he will bring some new thinking and drive to the position. You make some valid and very realistic points OhtobeARossie in your post. I just checked the GAA odds and both Mayo and Galway are even money to win Connacht this year with Roscommon at 7/1. (The Rossies must beat Mayo and probably Galway to even make the final). We are 100/1 (as in recent years) to win the All Ireland behind Kerry, Dublin, Mayo, Galway, Armagh, Derry, Donegal, Tyrone, Monaghan, and Kildare. Therefore, Roscommon supporters need to be patient and support the new management team while also having reasonably realistic expectations. Fair play also to Pat Flangan and Brendan Hacket for also putting their names forward without success. letsgetgoing (Roscommon) - Posts: 662 - 27/10/2022 14:28:24 2445673 Link 0 |
Best of luck to Davy Burke on his appointment. Great to see a relatively new face in county management. I have watched with some amusement some of the comments on the search for a replacement for Cunningham and it would make you wonder just who would satisfy some supporters. Glad it's a new face from outside the county without any baggage. Not sure what Mchugh brings to the party but Burke must have some faith in him. Let's hope he picks a few progressive selectors from within the county and that they interduce some new blood during the FBD. Congratulations to Strokestown on their win last week. I was there to support Boyle but fair play to Strokestown they kept going right to the final whistle. Boyle were unfortunate with Cian McKeowns injury and I hope he makes a speedy recovery, likewise Paddy Brogan. I look forward to seeing Great crowds at FBD matches as it's been a long quiet time with inter county matches. Rossieforever (Roscommon) - Posts: 93 - 27/10/2022 14:33:07 2445674 Link 1 |
There in the dome, what's that hold. What's parking like for large crowds. What are the roads like for traffic arriving all at roughly same time? OhtobeARossie (Roscommon) - Posts: 1777 - 27/10/2022 15:55:15 2445700 Link 0 |
Dome Friday nights mid January = no crowds, difficulties for working players and a nonsense venue. Not to mention it being a "knock out League(sic)" Best wishes to Davy Burke and exciting rumour of John Rogers joining him Seanfanbocht (Roscommon) - Posts: 2056 - 27/10/2022 16:50:48 2445708 Link 0 |
