Special county board meeting on Wednesday night according to The Herald Ros13 (Roscommon) - Posts: 116 - 21/10/2022 20:28:36 2444982 Link 0 |
I see a county board meeting is called for Wednesday to appoint a new manager. Didn't the Roscommon county board chairman say one would be appointed before the 23rd? Gaa_lover (USA) - Posts: 3526 - 21/10/2022 20:37:07 2444985 Link 0 |
How does it make sense to rule out fellas because the don't have intercounty management experience (i think have a bit some do) and appoint a fella bar one absolute disaster short period with Westmeath hasnt manged a intercounty team for 30 years. I think he also looked to have a good backeoom with Westmeath and we saw how that went.

According to the Herald, there will be white smoke next week. Tension will be unreal Jack L (None) - Posts: 3143 - 21/10/2022 21:31:07 2444989 Link 1 |
If Hackett gets the job we may as well give up now. He's achieved no more than Flanagan in management and at least Flanagan has knowledge of Roscommon football. I'd have any of the others over him every day of the week.

Hackett worked as a psychologist with Roscommon back in 2001. We won Connacht that year, our last Connacht Final win in Hyde park. We'll see what next week's announcement brings. I'd have liked a local Manager but it doesn't appear there were any local people interested in the job. We all know the commitment involved. Donegal still have no Manager and they have been one of the top teams in the country over the last few years. endgame (Roscommon) - Posts: 2312 - 22/10/2022 09:54:43 2445003 Link 0 |
Bringing him back as a psychologist would be better than appointing him as manager. He'd be around the the same level as Cribbin whereby Pat Flanagan should be a better option. SmokieRoss, Colm Nally by the way is a Dub who played for louth. He was coach for Meath in recent years without much progress. Still talk in Galway that Don Connellan is in the running. His Moycullen side are up against the favourites and defending champions Mountbellew Moylough on Sunday. Not all about have inter County experience, Mayo appointed James Horan with just a little club management experience. Yondu (UK) - Posts: 845 - 22/10/2022 13:46:18 2445021 Link 0 |
Horan also brought in a high calibre coach in the form of Buckley. Would the delay in announcing the manager again be to see how Don Connellan is fixed after the Moycullen game? MachaireConnacht (Roscommon) - Posts: 1000 - 22/10/2022 14:11:39 2445023 Link 0 |
As a County Board meeting was already announced for Wednesday you'd think they've already agreed on the name going forward. If Don is sprung at the last minute shades of the FAI and Jack Charlton! Seanfanbocht (Roscommon) - Posts: 2055 - 22/10/2022 15:03:42 2445031 Link 0 |
Don Connellan is not in the running, hasn't interviewed and has no interest in interviewing

Well done Four Roads, slow starters but kicked on after the first quarter to win comfortably. Pearses only leading by 1 at half time with strong wind was curtains for them. The_analyser (Roscommon) - Posts: 3939 - 22/10/2022 17:00:01 2445038 Link 1 |
Superb performance by Roscommon's Aoife O ' Rourke tonight in defending her European boxing gold medal. Completely dominating the fight (5-0) at this level was very impressive. Congratulations also to Amy Broadhurst and Kellie Harrington in bringing home a total of three gold medals to Ireland. I know this is a GAA forum but sometimes a good news story should be told in order to cheer us all up! letsgetgoing (Roscommon) - Posts: 661 - 22/10/2022 19:39:09 2445056 Link 3 |
Davy Burke was on RTE tonight for the Leinster Club Championship and was asked about getting back into management with the Roscommon job mentioned. He said that he is keen to get back in and that conversations were had with no decisions being made yet. Primrose_and_blue (Roscommon) - Posts: 69 - 22/10/2022 21:40:56 2445072 Link 0 |
Davy Burke confirmed on RTÉ tonight that he's in the running for the Roscommon job. Yondu (UK) - Posts: 845 - 22/10/2022 22:01:12 2445075 Link 0 |
That was well flagged by Smokie here a few days ago. A Co Board Meeting has been called for Wednesday presumably to ratify whoever the Committee has decided on. I'd be surprised if it's not Burke. Seanfanbocht (Roscommon) - Posts: 2055 - 23/10/2022 09:25:14 2445080 Link 0 |
Seamus Duke tweeted that it won't be Bernard Flynn. Looks like Davy Burke alright.

Hard one to call today. Definitely weather could be a factor and how Boyle handle the occasion. I'll tip Boyle but wouldn't be surprised if Strokestown came away with it. MachaireConnacht (Roscommon) - Posts: 1000 - 23/10/2022 12:23:14 2445104 Link 0 |
Congratulations to Strokestown on winning the county final today. They just did enough to get over the line. letsgetgoing (Roscommon) - Posts: 661 - 23/10/2022 16:47:31 2445128 Link 1 |
One of our most open championship decided with the last kick of the game, congrats to Strokestown really showed their true worth in the knock out stages with three hard earned wins. The_analyser (Roscommon) - Posts: 3939 - 23/10/2022 17:50:12 2445139 Link 3 |
