Conor Gleeson definitely should have not conceded that goal"
Campbell on 2 mins with space. A free man flying through the middle of the defence. Not many goalies would've stopped that goal.

Gleeson has had a pretty good year.

Be sure not to give Armagh any credit now and of course Joyces man-managemt was the reason Armagh defended well and Galway kicked some wides."
Some wides, is it? We kicked 9 wides and we kicked a further 3 (unchallenged) into a goalies hands. Even you might manage the maths that any couple of those actually drop over the bar and we'd have Sam - but such is sport. We've the races, the ladies football all ireland and the camogie all ireland to look forward to in Galway. And there in Donegal you have the, am, well you have the Mary from Dunloe festival to look forward to, or is that over?

I do think there's a grain of 'hometruth' there, in that I'd agree that the performance yesterday was on or close to par with what we've delivered all season, considering the differing motivation and defensive/offensive organisation level of oppositions like Sligo, Mayo, Derry, Westmeath, Monaghan, Dublin Donegal & Armagh.

Armagh toughened up their defense from Sligo six weeks ago, and also contructed their attacks at times by running hard at particular regions of Galway's defense, and getting enough joy to retain parity on the scoreboard throughout. The unexpected, unwelcome, and sadly totally self-inflicted killer blow for Galway seemed to be the conversion rate off frees marks etc. Our abysmal strike rate in that category really left us with our backs to the wall on the day.

Thats not the way it works. Galway kick some of those scores and Armagh aren't defending a lead in the last 15mins it would be a different game, maybe Armagh are pushing for the equaliser and Galway hang on to win by a point, who knows.
The way ye are trying to make out that Armagh could only beat you because you played poorly is silly, you played more or less at the level you always play, so did Armagh.
Look at the games you have had over the last few years there has been nothing in it.

It's funny how things work out, a lad goes around jeering and lauding when scores against lesser teams and then gets injured inside 10 minutes.
Bottled it, at least mayo would turn up for the big days, 2/3 of that Galway team never got off the bus.
Mòl an oige agus tiocfaidh siad.
Comer impact sub a lá soupy at best I'm afraid when it gets to knockout, he can do it against lesser teams but not against set up astute teams.

Not really sure if the aforementioned things will lessen the pain of losing yet another All Ireland. Maybe a day at the races with copious amounts of alcohol might lessen the pain for 24 hours, but sorry no amount of ladies All Irelands or club All Irelands will lessen the pain one iota.

Replying To jm25:  "We are blessed with midfielders add in O'Neill McLaughlin mcglinchy should be close in next couple of years.

They are big men McLaughlin especially would he be worthwhile trying as a Tommy Walsh 14.

We are low on top inside forwards best bets are Thompson &costello.

Tierney is a fine left footed free taker and first free was only slightly more difficult taking it right footed, as was well out and central why someone felt the need to take it with their weaker foot I don't know.

I'm sure he won't want to sit it out but for greater good Sean Kelly should not play any group stages for club possibly should not play again till league"
Honestly what are you on about. Sean Kelly not playing for Greater good for who. Galway and Moycullen. The county senior footballers have to serve 2 masters and just because Galway need him to best can Moycullen do without him. McLaughlin has all the skills but can be very lazy on the field. Thompson and Costello are good but they are 2-3 years away from intercounty Senior. They need development in s&C etc. And I like Sam O Neill but he is not even related to an intercounty footballer and McGlinchey is only 18 (a very good prospect). He is capable of some brilliant individual scores but drifts out of a match but he is only a child. Remember he only made the 20's due to the injuries of the other midfielders.

ive no douth about that...

Well said. Tbh, I'm devastated for the players and management, especially after the loss in 2022. I also felt losing Cian Hernon through injury was unlucky, as he is great for breaking lines and brings a different dynamic from the bench.

Hopefully, there won't be a knee-jerk reaction to the loss. I sincerely hope Pj stays on as manager, (as he undoubtedly has a winner's mentality) with perhaps a few changes to personnel. I don't know if CON is set to leave.

So, let's be gracious to Armagh and congratulate them on their AI success. Players like Ruairi Grougan, Rian O'Neill and Stephan Campbell are fabulous players and role models - more power to them.

Would be great to see a huge welcome home for the boys. It's now they need our support.

Ah of course, I'm seeing now that Bdonegal is that particularly sad poster with multiple aliases from the far side of Bangor Erris in Mayo! I figured it couldn't be a Donegal person posting like that, as they're the nicest crew you could ever meet at a football match - as they were at the semi final this year. Mayo's real football people are very nice too but there's always the odd one having the pop at Galway. Don't worry about us at all, we'll manage that bit ourselves!!

The only thing management couldn't control yesterday was finnerty going off injured ( which was a big loss) apart from that I think they'll look back on this with big regrets, Comer not in the game at all and should have been subbed at half time at the latest ( if it was o Curraoin, Cunningham there and not performing they'd be gone) players have off days simple as that so sub them regardless of the name. Walsh should have been ordered off the frees after his left footed attempt in first half and subbed with 15 minutes left. Took tierney out of the game by putty him in cf when Heaney came in, why not put a corner forward in o' conagaile or culhane. Glynn taken off ( maybe he was injured , I couldn't see from my viewpoint in the stand) but if not he was playing great. O'Flaherty came on not in his usual left half back position but more like a right half forward, it's the only place I saw him popping up. Team not direct enough but boring back and over running into corners back out again looking to create space around the D, Armagh defended well there, Galway got a few scores from there but too predictable imo. That all said McGrath, Conroy & Maher McHugh must be well in the running for All Stars. Look forward to championship now and hopefully unearth 3-4 more players to add to the squad, especially forwards. Comer & Walsh impact subs in 2025. Good enjoyable year, just a pity they really left it behind them

As with every one point game there are so many small margins that either go for you or against you. Forker's point in the first half for Armagh came from a mishit pass that bounced perfectly into his path in between two Galway players. Grimley's last score hits the post and goes over. McHugh's hit the post and went wide. Was Campbell's handpass meant or was he trying to fist it over the bar and and it just fell short into McKay's path. We'll probably never know for sure.

Hopefully everyone stays on. There's no reason for Conroy, Comer, Walsh and Kelly to play much if any league football next year. Maybe bring them back with a couple games to play just to give them a run out. It's all about having those lads right for next May, June and July. Give game time to Sam O'Neill and James McLaughlin in Conroy's place. Unless McLaughlin is still stuck on trying to get to the AFL. Will Cooke be available? Hard to plan with him coming and going from year to year. Can John Daly and Molloy return to form? We could do with O'Curraoin and O'Conghaile taking a step up. O'Curraoin went out of the picture this year after having a good league campaign.

Why is Gleeson getting the blame for the goal? I'd be looking at why Soupy Campbell was given all the time and space and nobody was tracking the goal scorers run either. Poor defending by a team that defended so well all championship.

Disaster of a day yesterday, tough on the players after great performances in quarter and semi and then to malfunction in the final. While the style this year as been more cautious and hold the ball, I thin they went even further down the cautious route, conceding kickouts and not taking shots when on.
Sideline were poor also, putting Tierney in the corner when Heaney came on was poor decision, you could see it wasn't working but they left it, Comer not in the game at all and didn't move him and took him off too late. Why was Walsh left on frees? Kelly not fit enough but they must have thought him coming on would give everyone a lift but he wasn't able to offer much.
The players started to panic with alot of time left, they needed more leadership in the forwards, McDaid was trying but wasn't fully happening for him either. McHugh hasn't done much wrong all year, he got his chance after holding the ball for few mins and he was in alot space and decided to kick using outside of the boot when he should have kicked with inside of the boot, might not seem big deal but should have been a score. Silke would have shot and scored in previous two games but yesterday at the end he decideds to go back to Walsh who kicks an awful wide.

Walsh and Comer, they are the best two forwards there but I think they lack cuteness and football brain, if they are given space then the two will cause huge damage but if the space is cut off they seem to easy to be crowded out.

Fairplay to Armagh, they are probably the best drilled team in the country and they took there chances, they were solid in defence and mixed up there attacking play.
