Replying To WanPintWin:  "Johnny Giles used to say something along the lines of, "players immediately become better when they're unavailable".
In staying that, I do think Cooke is a big loss. We're a bit short options around the middle. He's very good at carrying ball and is an excellent kicker."
Mike Daly is a super player, I'd be very happy as an opposing manager not having to face him, he also can play anywhere from 8 to 15, as for Ronan Steede he was super pre Covid lockdown, when plenty went hiding in Navan he was massive with Paul Conroy and had a great game against Tyrone, he was also a scoring threat from Midfield and had the ability to kick scores from left and right from outside the defensive cover. He just disappeared, aa mentioned above did he get injured. Anyways, it is St Jarlaths v Naas CBS for me. I think we will win and set us up for promotion.

To be fair to Daly he probably hasn't the pace to play wing forward in the modern inter county game.
He would be a savage asset to us for a midfield role though. Especially given we have very few options in that sector.

Replying To Mayonman:  "Cooke is a huge loss. Got better with every game last year and was really looking forward to seeing him with a full pre season under his belt.

Mike Daly would have been valuable to have around but had been hit and miss for us.

Steeds was excellent for PJ at the start of his job. Never appeared after C19 hit. What happened... injury/form/age or just selection?"
Steede was dropped off the panel just before the championship last year, no idea why but we paid for it afterwards.

I'd agree. He's a brilliant footballer. He probably hasn't played as well as he would have liked for Galway, but we'd be better off with him on the panel. The role of the wing forward now generally involves and enormous amount of running. There's a role for Daly, but that one isn't it.

Not a great start to the day. Jarlets got absolutely hammered and our u20s were well beat. Hopefully better to come this evening

Some good attacking play. Left a couple of goals behind in first half. A bit too open down the middle for my liking.

Strong wind in our favour second half.

Thought we would lose this game to be honest.
Not because Cork are any good but because Galway over the last good few seasons have just been so flaky.
You can't argue with a big win away from home.
Listening to the radio it seemed to highlight three negatives - we conceded a lot of frees that were converted, Conor in goals was at fault for several scores and we left a lot of goal chances behind us.
We need to me more clinical with goal chances.
But that's just highlighting negatives.

It sounded like we played some fantastic attacking football which was heartening to listen to.

Yeah good win but a lot to improve on.

Three goals scored but missed 4 more.
Dessie was superb
Unfortunately Flaherty cost us two scores with his rambles out the field
Sean Kelly and Shane Walsh, we've said it all before - excellent
Wide open at times in defence, but did well for most of second half
Molloy good and deserved his score
Damien Comer had a good second half too

Onwards and upwards, good to get the win.

I was at the game and couldn't argue with a lot of what you said. We won well but I was disappointed at full time.

Positives for me were our forward play, Finnerty, Walsh etc will get credit but I was impressed with Comer, best game for Galway in a while and seems to be back moving well.
Thought Tierney without central in the game, out in a workmanlike performance, did a lot of unselfish running and covering.
Molloy, McHugh, very good with the ball.

Negatives would be Flaherty, 100% will be targtettwd by better sides like Mayo, Monaghan Donegal, Tyrone etc. Both off the tee and when in possession.
Our defensive effort and intensity reminded me of the Kerry league game in Tralee, you put Geaney, Clifford etc in Cork jerseys today and we would have conceded 5-20

Attaching wise we were really good. Very loose at the back and I don't blame any defenders as such. Just thought we didn't filter back and block the channels when we last the ball.

Dessie had a good game especially against the wind.

Goalkeeper dithered a few times and got caught three times in possession.

We could have scored 6 or 7 goals. Cork were poor but do have good attackers

Getting caught in possession is one thing - can be potentially solved by basically telling him to pop it off when he gets it to a maroon shirt.
The kicking off the tee is not so easily solved unfortunately. It has been a problem with our keepers for a long time.

13-6 it was, big win i thought Kerry had won 15 to 20 points.

Galway showed the two sides of them tonight. As good as any team going forward and the forward power will likely bring promotion but issues remain defensively which need improvement before the championship.

A win against Derry on March 20th will guarantee promotion.

On way back from match. Good summation. Kieran Molloy was excellent and Dylan McHugh also brilliant. P. Conroy immeasurable to us and the one area of concern is the lack of backup in midfield. P
Cooke as noted earlier would be a huge addition.

Anyone know where Fitzgerald is with his recovery. He was excellent in the FBD, missing these games is a disaster for him in terms of development.
If he doesn't play in the next couple of weeks he will unlikely play in the championship.

To finish on a positive. We've all played the 5 a side game where u are winning easily. Basically at your ease and while u chase back so u really put much intensity into it.

No harm winning well but coming off the pitch with obvious lessons to learn. Will stand us well next month.

I said before our league program gets progressively harder. This is good as we will rev up nicely for Mayo. Would be a disaster the other way around.

My last post of the night, time to sample some of the rebel county's delights!

Solid win
No talk of promotion until we have 12 points on table
