Some freetaking from Kelly from MM, very very few who can kick like that with both feet. How did he play apart from that? TheBishop (Galway) - Posts: 289 - 30/08/2022 15:16:27 2439173 Link 0 |
Monivea had to win that game and threw everything at Claregalway.Claregalway were not great but not as poor as you are suggesting.Considering they had lost 2 starting players since start of season, their captain from last year is still recovering from serious injury last year and their goalkeeper who is playing well since he had to come outfield hasn't played outfield for 3 years they are coping pretty well.Take that amount of starting influential players out of any team and there are days when thing won't go to plan.

There should be more clubs in junior with a more even spread of teams in all competitions.. looked at a fair few senior games to date and the lower end of the scale wouldn't go up from intermediate this year.. i.e. Spideal Howardhunt1 (Galway) - Posts: 81 - 30/08/2022 18:48:53 2439195 Link 0 |
Quarter final places done and dusted in intermediate championship apart from group 2 where Brendan's topped the group with a winner takes all for second spot in last match Caltra v MB. Stripsandbanners (Galway) - Posts: 82 - 30/08/2022 21:21:47 2439207 Link 1 |
Corofin will no doubt be back with the bit between their teeth! I fear them kicking on from here.. Few in game management calls the last day and Corofin would have had Moycullen bet up a stick. Silke and Burke will no doubt be starters in the lateral stages of the championship, who will come out of the team I'm not sure. Farragher not at his best, Sice playing good stuff, Canney really impressing this year, Gill goes in and out of games and wasn't at the races against Moycullen at all. The depth in the Corofin squad is phenomenal and I think that's what will get them over the line! LetsPlayBall (Galway) - Posts: 64 - 31/08/2022 11:57:40 2439236 Link 0 |
MB should have the experience and guile to win by by 5 or 6. Who is standing out as the frontrunners for the Intermediate? Dunmore and Kilconly have been impressive so far, albeit against weak opposition. The group game in 2 weeks time could be a dress rehearsal for a county final. 98galway (Galway) - Posts: 8 - 31/08/2022 14:31:38 2439248 Link 0 |
Very difficult to call intermediate winners. Such a gulf in standards in groups e.g. oranmore, Williamstown, cortoon are very poor and thus its hard to measure teams accurately. northbouind (Galway) - Posts: 305 - 31/08/2022 16:31:44 2439253 Link 0 |
I'd put our second team Corofin in the mix as well. Were going well. handpassking (Galway) - Posts: 438 - 31/08/2022 18:37:11 2439255 Link 0 |
I'd go with Dunmore. Some lovely young players coming through and they are joining a hardened core of experienced players. The Brendan's lads are not long up from junior and I still think that might be closer to their level. Wasn't there talk of them looking to join the Roscommon club competitions too? I think we are ok at senior without them. Our own intermediates are fine and no more than that. crankyincorofin (Galway) - Posts: 104 - 01/09/2022 12:34:41 2439301 Link 0 |
Not. Sure when brendans were on about joining the Roscommon championship maybe it was same time Belclare we're on about setting up there own club ,,, saying that junior is there level shows ur total lack of football knowledge,, u definitely must be passing through corofin there no way any football person in corofin is that clueless,,, Kickitout (Galway) - Posts: 1057 - 01/09/2022 13:00:48 2439305 Link 1 |
corofin imed a nice mix of experience and u19's .dont expect them to win but no one will take them for granted either.Colin Kelly is a senior player if he could commit and no corner back will like to see him coming on with the fresh legs.

I think Oileáin Árann have a chance too. They've been knocking on the door for a few years now. I'm not sure what the latest is with Mulkerrin, but there was some talk a while back of him possibly being available for the latter stages of the club championship. If they can get him back this year, it'd be a big boost. Intermediate has been very competitive for a number of years now. There's very little between a batch of teams. Not many picked Naomh Anna to win it last year, especially after they lost an early group game. They then went on a great run including hammering Breathnachs and were a last kick freak goal away from winning the Connacht intermediate title. We need more creativity up front - what's the chances of getting Ian Burke back. I really think had we had him v Kerry we'd have been celebrating... John Daly with a few defence-splitting passes proved this. Look at Erikssen today - simply no replacement for these technically astute players.. I'm a huge fan of Ian Burke but in his last season with County he looked off the pace. A year out will push him further away from required conditioning. If he's coming back he would want to be on a conditioning program asap to be ready for next year ........ if course I'm assuming he did not a lot for the last year. Maybe he has a bit done but no more than Cooke and Mike Daly if they are coming back they should commit as soon as possible. Mayonman (Galway) - Posts: 1920 - 04/09/2022 21:48:49 2439693 Link 1 |

Dunmore, Kilconly, Aran, Brendan's all looking good. Glenamaddy also motoring well and nobody seems to be talking about them. The business end of intermediate c'ship should be great. togoutlads (Galway) - Posts: 1045 - 05/09/2022 11:46:59 2439733 Link 1 |
Well weren't they junior for a few years? They are closer to that level than senior level. And that's fine, probably good enough to compete for an intermediate title in Roscommon.

I agree Ian Burke would be a big addition to the Galway forwards or a player similar to Ian. I haven't seen a forward similar to him at club level this season but I haven't seen all the games either

Mulkerrin has been named on the subs bench for both Aran's games. Don't think he's actually got on the field yet though. Have my doubts that he will figure for them much during the championship. I'd say the plan is to get himself right for the league with Galway early in the new year.
