More than likely Thomastown so. They have a bit of cut and thrust about them, if the KK co final was anything to go by.

Kenny Park is a very nice venue for club games but it dues not have the the terracing or seating or dare I say turnstiles to cater for a crowd 5.000 or thereabouts as expressed yesterday by a goodly number of people I spoke to including a couple of prominent board officers. On the issue that all major hurling games being held in Kenny Park Is restricting crowd size part of their aims.Galway city and Salthill seems to be a magnet for all sorts events, sport ,racing, and festivals and dare I say education and employment for a very large swath of the population of the west of Ireland except for a whinging element to do with GAA matches, backtooldwall (Galway) - Posts: 138 - 11/11/2024 16:55:45 2579255 Link 1 |
Kenny Park is more than capable of catering for a few Galway league games every year. If Salthill and Galway is such a magnet for events, then why not spread the match day money around and let the businesses of Athenry prosper. Pearse Stadium is a soulless stadium that is very badly set up. Bulldoze it and do the entire county a favour. TanCanRan (Galway) - Posts: 207 - 11/11/2024 17:18:58 2579256 Link 1 |
Fair point and my comment was more aimed at Cappy I suppose in relation to tactics and indeed the way Cappy retreated meant Loughrea got away with not having to use many tactics in farness.

Yes I agree. I think if cappy did push up there would be a lot more space for the lrea forwards to capitalize on and perhaps would've ended up in more goalscoring opportunities. But during the last ten mins cappy had to go for broke and they didn't... Their work rate was phenomenal and they can be very proud of their efforts

One thing everyone is in agreement anyway is Kenny Park should be the venue for Hurling County Finals going forward. Well done loughrea on their win, and hard luck Cappy. They had their day in the sun in fairness, be a bit like Carnmore in the 90s thats as far as theyll ever get. Id say loughrea may well win a few more. Age profile is good. clare_sparrow (Galway) - Posts: 439 - 12/11/2024 11:10:41 2579332 Link 2 |
I wouldn't say everyone is in agreement. Fans that like a quality stand and terracing are not in agreement. Only fans that are into more nebulous venue characteristics like 'soul' seem to be in agreement. Maybe it's just myself, but Athenry is hardly the Fenway Park Experience either.

If Oisin coyle, Conor Jennings, Martin McManus, Dylan shocks return for 2025 and they can give Vince Morgan and Bobby Feeney more game time then they could right well win another.

You do get a good view on Pearse stadium but the whole gameday experience is horrific. I actually find myself stressed on the day of the game with traffic, parking, queues to turnstiles, getting out. Hard to enjoy it when half the game is spent thinking of how to get home! Kinvara (Galway) - Posts: 181 - 12/11/2024 13:30:47 2579359 Link 4 |
Did Cappy not win the under 20 championship in 2022? Surely they must have a decent age profile of good hurlers in the club. Keeping them all involved is another thing. Past hurler (None) - Posts: 797 - 12/11/2024 14:17:02 2579367 Link 2 |
One of the most hardened views (but less vocal) that I have come across is the players, they love athenry, and universally dislike Salthill. And like others have said, its the whole experience, but the quality of the game is ordinarily better in Athenry. Hopefully in time a decent stand could go in. Could leave Pearse Stadium to football and concerts and whatever else then.

Thomastown came up from Intermediate and won the County in one of the toughest counties there is to win in. A mighty achievement. Loughrea better be wide awake against them. If it's them they end up meeting.

13,500 in attendance I was told, dunno how true that is though.
