Kinnegad seem to be going well this year, not sure who's over them but they're having a good year by all accounts. With them already being through though will they be at full strength this weekend? I suppose the opportunity to eliminate Garrycastle as a contender for the championship would be a motivation for them. Garrycastle have a lot of experience imo and I think they will narrowly win this game to sneak into the quarters. I never know what to think of Athlone, they seem to have some big performances and excellent players at times, and then flatter to deceive at other times. I think Lomans' experience and nous will see them through here. The B group is very exciting this year and very hard to call. I believe there is a number of permutations about who can advance/be relegated here. Caulry v Moate is sure to be a fiery local derby. I haven't seen Moate in action this year but having picked up 5 points is great going for them, I assume some of the good minor teams they've had are starting to bear fruit. Caulry are another strange team like Athlone imo, they have some very good players too but can be found wanting at times. Having said that I'll go for a narrow win for Caulry here. Shamrocks have a lot of old experienced heads and I'll back them to overcome Shandonagh and qualify for the knockouts. Killucan v Rosemount is another very difficult one to call, it's hard to choose a winner here also. The Downs v Tyrrellspass - The Downs by 4 Garrycastle v Kinnegad - Garrycastle by 3 Athlone v Lomans - Lomans by 5 Caulry v Moate - Caulry by 3 Shamrocks v Shandonagh - Shamrocks by 6 Killucan v Rosemount - Draw How qualification decided for teams who finish level on points; is it head to head or scoring difference? Likewise for relegation? iarmhi_an_mhaith (Westmeath) - Posts: 268 - 30/09/2021 14:44:53 2383768 Link 0 |

In group 1 Lomans and Garrycastle should make the quarter finals. Icehouse (Westmeath) - Posts: 79 - 01/10/2021 21:39:29 2384083 Link 0 |

Moate must be kicking themselves. 3 points up v Caulry well into injury time and concede a penalty which was converted and game ended a draw. That meant themselves Caulry and Shamrocks all finished level on 6 points. When 2 teams are level it goes to head to head but when 3 are level its score difference which means Moate miss out. Moate conceding a penalty deep in injury time was foolish. No need to foul, looked a clear cut penalty on tv. Big wins for Shamrocks and Rosemount. Killucan the enigma of the group, looked great on occasions but lucky not to end up in a relegation play off. Claretandblue (Westmeath) - Posts: 1447 - 03/10/2021 21:35:56 2384313 Link 0 |
Robbie Forde was brilliant all day however he kicked a 14 yard free in injury time to go 4 points up and started show boating to the Caurly crowd who were giving him a hard time all game and it came back to bite him when Caurly scored 1-1 to draw it up and put Moate out of the championship Temple56 (Westmeath) - Posts: 372 - 03/10/2021 21:48:11 2384315 Link 0 |
I'm sure he feels a little silly now.

Shane Curran got a red and sounded livid with the ref. Anyone at the game ? BigSur (Westmeath) - Posts: 1128 - 04/10/2021 09:09:50 2384325 Link 0 |
Harsh on Forde who has been arguably the outstanding player of the championship. He hardly responsible for the concession of a late penalty, he'll be one of the first names on the Westmeath panel this year along with Caulry's Senan Baker, both outstanding yesterday. Baker has two more years at u20 I think. No rush on him for 2022 - his time will come.

I was at it alright - very entertaining, its great to be back at club matches. Dont know why this game wasnt in Athlone! Place would have been packed.. Didnt see what happened with Curran but his behavior towards the ref when shown the red card was not acceptable. He was in his face for a number of seconds venting. Caulry got off to a great start and were 7/8 points up after scoring a goal on the 20 minute mark. But then Moate kicked into action. Up till then, Caulry had done a great job on Forde but that all changed. Moate outscored Caulry from the 20th minute to deep into injury time by 11 points, such were their dominance. They played really well and certainly looked like a team that would be a match for anyone left in the Championship. They will be gutted to go out in the manner they did, but will also learn allot from the experience of this year. As for Forde, I think some of the comments here are over the top. He was getting lots of it all day, from players and supporters. Not sure his actions after the 14 yards free deserve the attention received but I guess its whatever way you see it. One things for sure, during the second half yesterday he put in some display. I have a slight feeling that yesterday maybe Caulry's County Final. They have some lovely players. Baker looks like a player for the future. Ban (Westmeath) - Posts: 1410 - 04/10/2021 12:06:29 2384348 Link 0 |
Lomans to beat Caulry this weekend but not by much mintyfresh (Westmeath) - Posts: 211 - 12/10/2021 14:46:24 2385379 Link 0 |
2 interesting quarter finals which we hadn't really expected. Lomans should win comfortably enough. Maguire might minimise Heslin's influence but they have 5 other decent forwards. Lomans defence only middling so will be interesting how they deal with Caulry's lively young forwards. BigSur (Westmeath) - Posts: 1128 - 13/10/2021 15:09:57 2385539 Link 0 |
Gutted for Caulry they deserved that Win today so unlucky . heslin very disrespectful at the end Goading the Caulry Supporters kevin Maguire kept heslin quite all day long suppose that's why he was annoyed

Didnt see the game but why do you consider them unlucky. Heslin doesn't help himself but generally gets dogs abuse from club players and supporters, the same people who lord him when playing with county. Lomans v Kinnegad will be interesting. If weather continues to be wet I'm leaning towards Shamrocks tomorrow. BigSur (Westmeath) - Posts: 1128 - 16/10/2021 19:14:20 2385859 Link 1 |

Infairness the Caulry supporters were shouting and whistling at him trying to put him off for every free he took during the game. Hes only human.
