Your right, over thinking the thing.

Separately in the NFL, in lieu of Div Finals (2nd v 1st), I'd prefer 2nd v 3rd Playoff Finals in Divs 2-4 (winner goes up, along with Champ 1st).
Or, alternatively, maybe 3up/3down would be interesting (or 2.5 with 6th Div above v 3rd Div below)."
3 up 3 down is too many

2 up/down out of 8 is plenty.
The 2 middle Divisions get 4 new teams every year.

It would not seem sensible to change to 3 up, 3 down and so promote and relegate 6 of the 8 teams in Divisions 2 and 3. You already have a situation where 50% of teams in those divisions change divisions each year. That's a far higher proportion than in any other league that I'm aware of. The only comparable one I can think of is the Scottish Championship and League 1 where 2 of the 10 teams are directly promoted or relegated and 4 others are involved in play-offs but still the most that can end up changing division is 4 teams (40%).

OK - would you like a 2nd v 3rd playoff for the 2nd promotion place (makes the league more interesting, with only 1st getting automatic promotion) ?

Or, to reduce burnout, scrap the Div Finals ?

It was a figurative usage.

The league is great, I think there's some capacity to make it better but not really through fiddling with the promotion places.

This Green proposal is rather underwhelming. It in not the best option but rather a compromise. There are a number of issues I would have with it.
[1] Division one teams will be guaranteed a place in the All Ireland Championship [AIC] group stage. How will this affect how they prioritize the League and Provincial Championships? Will they tailor their training to peak for AIC? As it is at the moment the main priority of Division One teams is to avoid relegation from the division rather than actually win the title.
[2]If all provincial finalists are from Division One and Division Two then all that is happening is that the bottom team in Division Two is the only team missing out qualifying for the AIC . All those League and Provincial Championship games to
just knock out one team out of 16.
[3] There is no reward for successful teams in the League and Provincial Championships as all teams are getting one home one away and one neutral game in the AIC. A Division One team winning all their games in the League and Provincial Championships are coming into the AIC in the same place as a team that had lost all their games.Surely a reward of two home games in the AIC would be merited. Also the League could be used to seed teams for the following seasons Provincials.
[4]Teams losing in the first round of the provincials will have a long wait[5-6 weeks] for the start of the AIC/ Tailteann Cup.What will be the enthusiasm for the Tailteann Cup be for teams with this gap particularly for those teams that have taken a heavy beating in their game?

why don't the GAA bring in a rule , that all Counties have to announce their team or at least their 26 man panel at least 48 hours before each game. We complain about Rugby and Soccer getting more publicity on TV Radio and print media than the GAA but how can reporters give coverage when basic news items like team selection is not available to them.

I've heard all about what is happening in football championship for 2023..have I missed something but how is 2022 being done??also can people tell us what is happening with under 17,19,20 and 21??

The next problem will be that the season is too short and condensed.
Within 24 months there will be a campaign to lengthen the inter county season again because no one is playing club championship in July anyway.

Both football all Irelands should be played in first Sunday in September.
Semi finals mid august and q finals on August bank holiday

Stagger the provincial club championships draw so the club champions of the all ireland and tail team cup winners enter at semi final stage.

That way you have the following periods to play matches
1. Jan/Feb - sigerson
2. Feb-April - nfl
3. May/june - provincial
4. June/July - round robin all Ireland
5. August - all Ireland knockout

Clubs
1. August - club group matches
2. September- club championship knockout
3. October- provincial championship
4. November- club provincial finals and all Ireland semifinals
5. December- all Ireland club finals

The senior football championship this year is done like it was done in 2017. Of difference is less qualifier games this year due to Div 3,4 teams joining the B All Ireland instead once knocked out of their province championship.

U17 and U20 stay for now. U19 didn't get voted in but will be revisited at the next congress. Should be a return to the U18 and U21 grade IMO but that's unlikely to happen as GAA HQ would have to admit they were wrong to scrap them and they never say they are wrong about anything.

I am wondering as the Division 3 final winners are not guaranteed (from next year) to be in the Sam Maguire. They could be displaced by a Division 3 or 4 team that reaches a provincial final.

In fact, in the unlikely event of all provincial finalists and the previous year's Tailteann Cup winner being in Divisions 3 and 4, the only teams from the first two league divisions that would gain a Sam Maguire place would be the first six in Division 1 and the Division 2 winner.

Also, there does not seem to be a provision for the All Ireland champions to be automatically in the following year's Sam Maguire competition. So, a champion that doesn't get to a provincial final and finishes up low enough in the league could end up in the Tailteann Cup the following year.

Would agree with that.

Truncated season makes no sense. Already people are speculating that Division I hurling teams might basically tog out second teams for the last series of games and even the final as they run too close into the Championship.

As you say, no one plays serious club for at least 6 weeks in Summer and early Autumn anyway.

One of the stupider decisions ever passed, it has to be said.

In hurling I think they should just have a 12 team round robin for championship where the round robin games double up for provincial games.

Top 6 to All Ireland playoffs. 12th place down, 11th place plays off against second tier runner up for last promotion spot.

This development league farce is a bit silly.
