Delighted for them. Birth of a Hurling Juggernaut? I hope so.

A few years ago the county board decided that every perk, facility and whatever else the underage footballers got, the hurlers would get too. Massive pushes at underage levels coupled with some very passionate people across the county's clubs has lead to this. It's hard work paying off and I'm only delighted for all involved.

Fair going alright. Well done to those working to make strides at underage hurling in the County. Beating Wexford in an U20 hurling championship is a great achievement, I can't say I remember Kildare beating a top tier team in the hurling championships.

Great to see them making such progress. The most significant thing for me about their U20s win the other night was that even after they fell behind in the closing stages, they still managed to come back and win it with only 13 men - that shows incredible character and self-belief for such rank outsiders. Kildare had a fairly decent senior team in the 70s and early 80s so there is a bit of a hurling tradition there to build on.

Great to see. Hopefully they'll be the new kids on the block over the coming years, like Dublin became in the last 10-15 years

Super stuff. The exposure of Kildare Hurling being successful in the Christy Ring is having a nock on effect too. Its giving kids something proper to aim for. Can't see can't be.
Onwards and upwards.

Tip for Kildare: Don't **** the bed like Meath hurling did. Actually go on and improve upon your success. You seem to have a county board that's supportive of hurling,

As much as I dislike ye in football, I'd absolutely love to see you do well in hurling. Like with the Dubs. Hon the Lillie's (with sticks)

i guess the next step is to get hurling into more clubs in Kildare

Fair play to them, thats really good to hear that similar resources are being put in like that. Well done to the Kildare county board on making a decision like that.

Definitely seeing tangible signs of significant progress being made.

Great to see that the results at minor level a few years ago weren't just a once off as well.

All Ireland U21 B title a few years ago was a big achievement, and what Naas are doing at underage is very impressive as well.

Little acorns, mighty oaks...

Definitly, Castledermot won county senior championship back in the early 90's then the club seemed to fold completely. No Hurling down there at all, same with St. Brigids in Kildare town gone years ago. Moorefield/Sarsfields fielding Adult teams sporadically. Really need to start putting resources into these areas in particular where there has been hurling in the past to get it up and going again.
The mad thing is in Kildare that there are adult Camogie teams where Hurling has never existed.
It shows what can be done with the right structures in place.

They have 15 clubs and 20+ adult teams. All of the major urban areas are covered bar Athy. They havea good base to build from.

Maynooth have 3 adult teams this year as do Naas, they are two major populated areas with huge playing numbers.

Most of the senior / intermediate teams also have second teams so there are big numbers playing.

The rural clubs like Ardclough / Coill Dubh are probably struggling for number as of late but they will always produce 2/3 quality hurlers every few years to keep them going.

Sarsfields and Moorefield also have 1 team each an there has to be huge potential in Newbridge to kick start hurling there.

In terms of underage nearly every club as a hurling section now. Clubs previously who wouldn't have facilitated hurling now have programs in place such as Rathangan and Two Mile House.

I'm not sure that any of the other McDonagh team have the potential that we have but the GAA need to embrace it. I really wouldn't be overly critical of our own county board as to be fair they have rowed in behind various initiatives, structures and management teams over the last few years.

Castledermot did make a brief comeback at junior level for a while about 3-4 years ago as did Athy so there is interest there. Internally for Kildare hurling it would be great for as many clubs to be playing as possible.

I'd think at the moent the likes of Maynooth, Naas and to a lesser extent clubs like Eire Og and Clane is where we will see the majority of the progress being made. Even in Leixlip and Celbridge at the moment there has been a little decline. Work is being done at underage level so hopefully that will pay off for them soon.

Be great to see Kildare playing competitively for the Liam McCarthy in the next 10-15 years. Theres a goal to aim for. Maybe the Dubs football success will be the national sports gain!

It's often the case that an area with no football or hurling will have a ladies football or camogie

I was at 2 county finals where Moorefield and Castledermot were the winners. Hard to imagine now !
