Replying To foreveryoung:  "I wouldn't know the ins and outs of resources in each county. I know a little about Limk and Tipp only.

When I mention resources, I mean everything a county has at its disposal to put its team on the pitch. If as you say Cork has more clubs and players than any other county, it would seem that those resources are not being well utilized. Let's not go back too far, but a county with such resources has averaged about one AI senior football per decade over the last 50 years. I'm not concerned with underage. Underage players are potential resources for senior success, and as such are already included in my definition. Neither is it my business as to why this is the situation in Cork. It is up to Cork itself to get its house in order. I can only base my observations on what I see produced in front of me on the pitch...intermediate standard.

Neither am I concerned with hurling.

My comment and proposal are an effort to try to make Gaelic football a competitive, watchable championship. At the moment it is a laughable, unwatchable farce. Name one good game that has been played since the championship started. Louth vs Offaly???"
Currently watching Mayo v Leitrim. Is there any point to this? None, absolutely none.
This type of game discredits the whole GAA.
And it is wrong to expect players from weak county teams to endure this type of humiliation.

Right now this game is a lame duck, its time to see what else is on till 4pm. Repeats of Only Fools on Gold will be worth a watch.

You missed three goals, your loss!

Replying To joeteor:  "There is a massive gap alright, only a handful of even games, and even within that top group Dublin and Kerry would probably beat the others handy. Football seems to he going the way of hurling with its lack of balance."
Until Kerry prove themselves they are in with the Mayos, Donegal, and possibly Tyrone and Armagh. Dublin are still a step above the chasing pack.

Anyone who continues to support the provincial competitions and cries about the great loss they'd be if scraped should be forced to watch this Mayo Leitrim game on continuous repeat..

Par Spillane talking some rubbish here. It is easy to remove provincials from All-Ireland because it is a broken system. Money may help but it make Leitrim competitive. They have 24 clubs and a small pool of players to pick from. Cora Staunton is right. Hurling, camogie, and ladies football all have tiers. Men's football is the only one which persists with this rubbish.

The half time discussion on the SG at least acknowledged the problems, but I found it bizarre any mention of structural change was moved on very quickly. There is no magic funding solution here, they cannot ask Croke Park to pay for weaker counties conditioning and everything will be ok in the world again!

Every sport in the world has different levels, there is nothing anyone can do about that. Training, conditoning, structures is one thing but how do you deal with the difference in population, amount and size of clubs and the fact counties are larger therefore are able to generate large amounts of money themselves outside of central council funding, not to mention some football counties are mainly hurling counties!

The Ladies game has the answer; they have Provincial Championships removed from the different All Ireland Championships. By all means continue with the National Leagues as they are and the Provincial Championships if there are too many barriers to change those but start the All Ireland series as Senior, Intermediate and Junior competitions, and have a system where you can move between all three depending on results, with these competitions not linked to Provincial competitions.

I know weaker counties are reluctant to move down this road but sometimes hard decisions have to be made for the greater good, but ensure Junior and Intermediate are not forgotten and genuine attempts are made to improve and keep those competitions at a good standard.

The football championship has been a disaster competitively so far.It needs to be dispensed with in its present format. The sooner we have amalgamated teams the better and we can look fwd to a real championship...one worthy of the name!
And the Dublin situation...well we know what needs to be done there.....the nettle needs to be grasped by Croke Park.

Merge league and championship with a tiered system. Every club in the country knows where they stand. If they are playing in the bottom 2 divisions they don't play senior championship and each club knows they have to work their way up until they are good enough to compete. It's baffling that we are still watching these Turkey shoots.

Make proper structural changes. Find a way to support the weaker counties to develop their infrastructure. It will take a lot of work and some of them will still not be able to make much of a dent but it can't be any worse than this.
