I think it was members of the British armed forces stationed in the 6 counties and members of the RUC that weren't allowed to play at 1 stage but I'm not 100% certain so you might want to check that out.

That depended. Seamus and Liam Ryan, both priests, from Cappamore were famous limerick Hurlers in the mid fifties. The then Bishop of Limerick, Henry Murphy, had no problem at all with his young priests playing hurling, but the Ryans were in the Diocese of Cashel and Emly and despite the fact that Archbishop Morris was Patron of the GGA he would not allow his priests to play, so the Ryans had to leave the game they loved. A couple of decades later the bishops would have been glad of them and there would have been no issue with them playing. It was all a load of nonsense.

Oldtourman. On a related matter, can you confirm if Canon Willie Fitzpatrick, PP of Croom and Banogue, hurled for Limerick?. I thought he played on the 1973 All Ireland winning team.

Checked out that story, he was not banned as you suggested. He was the victim of sectarian abuse which is not acceptable of course. If you have to go back 14 years to get a GAA sectarian abuse story then I don't think it's an issue. Comparing that unfortunate story to the volume of abuse black players get in England and to what James McCleean has to live with is disingenuous. You also haven't answered my question about black ownership of clubs, black managers or how many black refs are in the PL. updwell (Limerick) - Posts: 817 - 28/03/2021 20:04:13 2335283 Link 2 |
Why would there be when many leading figures in the Nationalist/Republican movement in the 18th and 19th centuries were protestants? And a lad called Sam Maguire was a Protestant too I'm sure you have heard of him. The GAA are an organisation promoting Irish games not Catholic games. I'm sure the Pope probably never pucked a sliotar around in his life.

James McClean doesn't help himself by posting certain photos of himself. It's clear you are trying to deflect by constantly talking about black players in football. Classic whataboutery.

Dont take it to heart at least you've had Sam residing in your county. Not sure what the cup was called back in 1918 it was a bit before my time but sure someone will know!

Luxembourg should be split in 2, not Ireland, Happy Easter to all suckvalleypaddy (Galway) - Posts: 1674 - 29/03/2021 13:31:04 2335307 Link 2 |
Still no answer and defence of the rascist tweets on McClean. Whataboutery to that.

Fr Willie did not play in' but played in the 1980 Final and yes he is PP of Croom and Banogue. His brother was a sub in ',73, county captain in '81 and West Limericks first All Star that year.

Had to look up what you were on about. Holy ****, boys crying on here about so called pros, what a laugh. Luxembourg ranked 98 in world rankings. Dublin would definitely beat Ireland. Then you have the Norths team, BBC radio Ulster asked Gerry Armstrong what he would take from the Italy match, his reply, an exciting 0-0 , couldn't believe it.

Thanks for clarifying that for me. Good luck to Limerick in the championship, whenever it takes place.
