Replying To LarryOBrother:  "Hearing a lot of talk about Limerick being unbeatable which I can't understand. They are undoubtedly very good but here are some facts that I think need to be considered:
1. They played 6 games last year in Championship and won 3 - 50% success rate.
2. There is a narrative that Limerick got ambushed and ran out of time on a big comeback against Kilkenny- this is not true. Limerick were a point down after 40mins and couldn't win from there. They had half an hour to claw back a 1 point deficit and were unable.
3. Their panel is touted as being very strong but had Mike Casey and Richie English been fit ,13 of the All Ireland team would have started yesterday and the other two were the first two subs. If the squad members are that good how can they not break onto the team? Also how can people say how good they are when they have played very little championship?

Not Anti Limerick just a bit tired of the narrative at this stage. Tipp are All-Ireland champions and haven't got half as much praise or coverage."
Fair post.
In fairness though I don't know too many Limerick supporters talking us up as unbeatable.

Sunday will tell a lot.
we'll know just how good we are after the Tipp game.

In fairness Skillet its not Limerick fans talking up the team, it's the media but I tend to agree with Larry that one swallow does nt make a summer and Tipp and Cork very strong too. Limerick were fantastic last Sunday but too often in the past I've seen teams play brilliantly and then play very flat the next day. Now I hope I'm wrong and Limerick keep the tempo up cos they re a lovely team to watch but a word of caution!

Just on point 3 you have to remember how very young the 2018 team was. There isnt young fellas come up to take their place because they are only out of diapers themselves.

I think 99% of Limerick fans would still remember the days of unlimited heartbreak all too well to ever say we are unbeatable.

I definitely think we are capable of beating anyone but beating everyone is a whole other thing

Replying To skillet:  "That's my point though. With the quality they have
they've underachieved massively in the last 10 years or so.
Cork should have won the all Ireland first day out in 2013.
What happened them against Waterford in 2017?
They couldn't put us away in normal time in 2018, were all over the place against Kilkenny last year.

Don't think Waterford will be too scared of Cork next week even though Mahoney will be a huge loss.
What odds a Waterford win?"
We don't have the scoring power. We could not win an All-Ireland when we had Flynn, Shanahan, Mullane, Kelly, Pendergast, Brick, Molumphy and a few others in attack. Seamus Pendergast would horse three players out of his way to win ball. Very underrated. I shudder to think what Limerick would do to us seen what they did to Clare. Even if we held them to the same score they got against Clare I don't think we would score as much as Clare.
Not knocking players but Patrick Curran and a few other who won minor and under 21 have not developed to the extent you would expect. Even as good as Stephen Bennett is, he is not lights out. This is probable because of terrible injuries in his early career. Austin Gleeson is expected to do too much and if you put him in with the seven players I mentioned above he would be just one among them.
Waterford can not afford to be missing players what ever the reason like Noel Connors, Connor Gleeson, Pauric Mahony, Philip Mahony retired Brick and even Maurice Shanahan used sparingly. Shane Bennett is by far the best of the clan and he is not playing anymore. Dessie Hutchison is a skilfull player, will not get the same space and you need a Pendergast to do the heavy lifting for him. Wexford bullied the team all over the place in a challenge match last week.
I would love to be proved wrong. In all honesty and no disrespect we are a level above the McDonagh teams in a level below the top teams. I would not be surprised if we put it up to Cork as they don't seem to phase us anymore but I would not want them to open us up either. Scoring the major problem for us.

Bet you enjoyed being proven wrong there. Congrats on a great win.

Yes, well done Waterford. Not a perfect performance but certainly a massive step in the right direction. You've got a good manager at the helm too. I don't want to sound like a broken record but I think Cahill will lost patience with Gleeson. We've all done similar but you just don't get away with that at county level and he probably will face action for it.
Good to see Hutchison get a few scores. I think with more expertise he could have shot a few more as he was out first to a few balls and didn't take them as well as he probably should have.
Cork were extremely disappointing. Their backs always get slaughtered by everyone but for me their forwards are the ones who don't work hard enough. I seen them
Play Tipp in 2016 and the forwards never put in one meaningful tackle....that hasn't changed too much in my opinion

Don't underestimate the influence Cahill will have on Waterford. He already let Austin Gleeson know there will be a standard set something previous managers failed to do. To Gleeson's credit he went off and work his way upto that standard and I think is going to have a great year. Kilkenny from a talent point of view had no business beating Limerick last year but Cody has a standard of work rate that is instilled in the players. The team of Shanahan, Kelly and others I always felt played with a bit of selfishness which kept them for winning an All-Ireland. Cahill will not allow this. As for Cork something is really wrong in that county. Both Football and Hurling are struggling. Hard to figure out with the tradition and population they should be in the mix year in and out.

Replying To gatha:  "On previous form it would be Tipp and Limerick. However every year since Kilkenny last repeated the defending Champions looked un beatable and yet didn't repeat. Tipp looked unstoppable then Galway and Limerick. Parity is the norm in hurling right now. A dark horse i would go with, not necessarily to win the All-Ireland but to shake things up is Waterford. A serious manager in Cahill and a rededicated Austin Gleeson could be interesting. Anyone of 5 or 6 teams could win the All-Ireland. Having watched the American sports with no or limited supporters it just isn't the same unfortunately. that is another aspect teams will have to manage."
Have to change my prediction Waterford could win the All Ireland . I will go with Limerick to win however Congrats to Waterford I will be pulling for them.

Yes Viking66 and will admit to being surprised at our scoring returns. I think Waterford are the some total of and as another poster pointed out maybe our great teams were a little on the selfish side if you were to fault them. The game they are playing now will be hard to maintain and so they need to capitalize now. There is a big obstacle to us doing that. Limerick.

Your great team of Mullane Browne and McGrath were a selfish team. Those were 3 who weren't and suffered for the selfishness of others. Cahill has been immense for Waterford. Like Cody it is his way or the highway as Gleeson found out early this year. Any team that wins is usually greater then the sum of their parts. However you do need men who will step up and take responsibility when the game is on the line. Waterford had that this weekend. Fair play to the players they bought in and good luck to them would love to see them win it.
