I agree All Island would be the easiest and most logical so good luck getting Politicians onboard with it. lol.

It's a bit of a mess up here alright. We probably had more visitors to the county in 2020 than ever before and we also have the very busy cross border travel on a daily basis to contend with. It wouldn't be a popular decision at all but maybe we need a return to the 5km restrictions for a few weeks and get the Guards back doing checkpoints at the main border crossings. I can't see any other way around it to be honest. Lockjaw (Donegal) - Posts: 9155 - 28/09/2020 12:38:42 2294495 Link 2 |
Putting up a tight border between Galway and Clare would indeed be a problem similar to a tight border between Donegal and Tyrone. It is a tricky problem when you have not got the one government . If you had you could treat the counties of Donegal ,Tyrone and Derry where the rates are as a region and have restrictions around that similar to Kildare Laois and Offaly.

I feel one of the major causes is that the northwest did not get many cases in the first wave and people got complacent. Donegal had zero cases for over 20 days during the summer. Another major problem is different restrictions on both sides of the border. For example, pubs are closed in Donegal now but you can skip across to Derry and Strabane where the pubs are opened. This is confusing people for sure. A tighter border between north and south will not achieve much in my opinion. Cases are very high in Donegal, Derry and Tyrone so you would need to have no movement in and out of the entire region. We all know that won't happen because of politics. True I suppose. Man-made borders and man-made problems. Sigh.

Masks are the problem . From masks came in things have got worse, people letting guard down because they're wearing masks. Keep social distance and wash hands regularly and your safer.

I have seen this type of comment before and it is such utter rubbish. The main aim of masks is to prevent you from passing on the virus when you have it - yes with the right type of mask it may help or reduce the viral load that you receive (and stop you from touching your face) however the greatest benefit is to stop people from passing it on. So if you go into a room and you have one lad coughing and shouting while others are wearing masks then wearing the masks might save some but not all from getting it. If everyone wore a mask then you would see a dramatic reduction in the numbers but if people like yourself keep saying this rubbish then that won't happen.

Trump 2020 got handed his "ass" in the debate. It is looking like Irish Catholic Joe Biden 2020 now.

That's a great point, never thought about it like that but your spot on. Some people are getting a bit lax on the other restrictions thinking that masks protect them.

The "Debate" was horrible. Worst I've ever seen. Both guys interrupted each other and the Moderator was terrible. Either guy can win I'd say. Trump has been having huge rallies but Biden has the media, Wall Street, Hollywood, etc in his corner. Tough to say. Due to the Mail In Ballots it may get very messy. Lots of weird things happening already.

In fairness, they are not saying the thought process is correct, they're saying that that line of thinking is prevalent and causes issues. 6 months later and I'm still having to correct older (and some younger) relatives on the fact that the mask doesn't protect you, it protects others. This point has been made over and over again by NPHET and the government, but trust has eroded in both to such an extreme that many people in Donegal do not care to listen to them. Of course, though, social distancing and washing your hands is useless if everyone present is not wearing a mask, much like everyone wearing a mask is useless if they're not social distancing. If you have it, masks wont prevent you from passing it on. It's on your clothes , it's on door handles, it's everywhere. Washing and wiping and keeping your distance are a bigger deterrent. The figures came down long before masks came in.

Is there anything more disgusting and dirty than these masks? Germs being concentrated into these masks and then handled and put in pocket, then opening doors and handling cash or goods to spread it everywhere. Disgusting.

Dr Tony Holohan said back last March that he wasn't convinced that masks were any addition.

This is the sort of rubbish that is contributing to the virus and the loss of life. People like you cherry picking what was said to make a point and discredit science. The actual facts are that scientist every where did not know the value of wearing masks and once learning more about the virus changed their minds or re-enforced the value of masks. They then did their civic and ethical duty by notifying the public. Please stop spreading this false narrative and do you civic duty to protect our families and friends. You wouldn't need to be an epidemiologist a virologist or to know that any kind of barrier is bound to be a help.A Doctor from Derry put it well yesterday when he asked the naysayers if they were going in to a Covid test centre would they rather go in with or without a Mask. gunman (Donegal) - Posts: 1059 - 01/10/2020 19:20:13 2295135 Link 2 |
